Thoughts on the submarine?
So I am wondering what everyone around here thinks about the submarine. No countdown to kickoff. Almost no news and updates - and very little corroboration with what little we do get.
Is the B1G ten going there like they are every other school? Or are they too not allowed in the submaring?
I, for one, think it has added a layer of mysteriousness to the season. I kind of like not knowing. It might be building suspense for the season more than having numerous public updates.
Thoughts?

I seem to recall watching all those countdown to kickoff videos before '13 and '14 and
a.) learning almost nothing from them except...
b.) there was an air of optimism. Whatever.
Remember the crazy-tight camara angles on the final "scrimmage?" They'd show the ball being handed into the gut of the running back, then a blur, then the next play.
Don't miss it. I'm good... Rather the coaches and players be focused.

Off Topic, but does anyone know anything about monk strap shoes and if they are fashionable for koalas?
August 17th, 2015 at 2:59 PM ^
I find monk strap shoes to be great. You can use them like a sling (holding the straps) when flinging pooh and can achieve greater velocity and therefore greater kinetic energy related pain when you hit your target.
As far as wearing them? I have no idea, you can't grasp a tree with your feet if you wear shoes.

Submarine's are crazy. They are full of seamen.

Given Jim Harbaugh's football psyche, I'm not surprised the Michigan is on a "run silent, run deep" course when it comes to fall practice. I imagine he and the rest of the coaching staff and support personnel are going to do their best to keep a lid on any news about the team until they're ready to talk about starters, etc. in the days prior to the season opener.
I do have to wonder what the BTN crew is going to saw and show on video when they come to Ann Arbor. It'd be pretty funny to see another "Colin Cowherd" interview with Harbaugh on BTN with JH trying to say as little as possible about the team. It'd be funnier still if Harbaugh didn't let the BTN guys watch the team's practice, although I doubt that would happen.

Thoughts?! We DISCUSS here. -1 pts.

Ask this question a few games into the season. Only then will we be able to judge how effective, and worthwhile, the submarine is/was.

burried on the depth chart pushing for starting time only to never be heard from once the season begins.

all the news you got came from the games as they were played. Kinda nice...if it didn't suck

Gerry Dinardo, Howard Griffith, and Dave Revsine with BTN bus crew will be visiting the submarine on Wednesday. Does Coach Harbaugh let them in or does he leave them out banging on the hull with a wrench?

Honestly, fans don't really need to know anything. Anything that eliminates the baseless speculation from people who are bored with nothing better to do is a positive in my book.

It's more about the football team than us...pretty sure JH wants to forge and sharpen the kids into a well oiled machine. "Running silent" is more about keeping distractions away from the kids so they can focus on coming together, improving and preparing for their first game.

Taking a British achievement and making it an American one is simply appalling. Awful, awful, awful movie. It's an embarrassment to American cinema.

I like the secrecy. I think that it would give the staff more time for the team and their families than spending valuable time at a podium. Keep it underwater till the opener. Go Blue!!!

I've been following the pre-season since 2008, with the Countdown to Kickoff, the various Big Ten Network shows, the random tidbits of information here, etc... and most of it is just fluff to fill air time. The responses are predictable, yet never really accurately predict how the season is going to turn out. So for entertainment purposes, yeah, all that stuff is fun. But for real information, I found it a bit misleading. I'm better off going into the season relatively blind.

You've got a woefully underachieving team/program with a new Head man, new playbook, new expectations, new everything. So, this is exactly what this team needs...as much time with the coaching staff as possible without outside distractions.
Further, it creates intrigue for both the fans, recruits and every team on the schedule. No one knows what will emerge from the depths in Salt Lake City...but everyone will be watching.

Those always intrigued me. I would look forward to them each morning, would watch with disappointment as each guy said the same annoying thing "meh meh compete hebeddah shebeddah toughness blah blah for the seniors", then somehow or another repeat this cycle 30 times.
The submarine prevents such roller coaster of emotion, so I'm good with it.
August 17th, 2015 at 5:24 PM ^
it's great
August 17th, 2015 at 5:26 PM ^
I love it. I think this pretty much all coaches should do this. It sort of sucks as a fan, but I think it is the best thing for the team.
August 17th, 2015 at 5:27 PM ^
Hoke's teams were all bark and no bite. In years past they preached about hunger, toughness, and accountability but it always yielded crappy, depressing seasons.
I think the submarine is great. These players can get up, go to work, and grow as a team. No more BS. No more talk. Just football. This is the way it should be and they'll be ready on September 3rd.

This is kind of like the "edging" thing described in orange is the new black. Harbaugh is just a thoughtful partner.
