Cassius Winston on Campus
Big time visitor at Michigan today -- 2016 U of D Jesuit 5-star PG Cassius Winston
— Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) May 14, 2015
Reports came out yesterday that we now lead for him...
and then we get a visit...
I do believe he got it from the scout premium board.
It's for truth. Don't think he will commit today, but a couple people close to him think we are the team to beat now.
telling the truth out of his ass?
Cuz that works too!
Anything that gets Cassius from maroon and white to maize and blue.
So in other words, you can't confirm. Or can you?
He just broke his wrist, so he's out for the next few months. Maybe he's in AA to receive some superior medical care, in addition to checking out some superior academics, basketball facilities, and culture.

Seriously get well soon and go BLUE!
I can't find a non freep or paywalled site but Winston broke his arm and is out 6-8 weeks. Wish him well in his recovery
He was falling and tried to support his body with his hand. Doctors did not say it was bad, as far as breaks go, and put him in the cast. Not sure where the arm part came from.
if you are lucky, and requires immobilization (cast) for 6-8 weeks.
If you are unlucky, you have involvement of the scaphoid (proximal part of the hand), which is terrifying given the poor circulation (and healing).
Wrist fractures in athletes scare the crap out of me...
But should the "buckle up" sign start lighting up?
I don't think it's impossible he winds up at Michigan, but I'd be pretty surprised if that decision were imminent. Early playing time is so important to 5-star recruits, as they are planning to stay only 2 years at most (whether that happens or not is different, but that's the general plan). If Winston were to commit to Michigan before next April, I think it would only be if Walton were to look like someone heading to the NBA after next season. Of course, I do have those expectations for Walton, and thus expectations for Winston, but I'd be surprised if Winston signed on before February.
Kentucky pretty much eliminates your playing time argument.
Specifically related to my playing time argument. They're still getting some big recruits, but they're missing out on ones that they'd often get, and Calipari is making a big deal that his platoon system this year won't happen again. As long as the one-and-done rule is still viable, most top 3 players at their position (which is what Winston is) won't want to go t o a place where they might get 10-15 minutes per game as a freshman. And if Walton returns for his senior year, that's about all that would likely be available.
But if Walton makes the jump, that would be the third starting PG in a row that Beilein has gotten to the NBA, and Winston should very much consider Michigan to become the next PG in that trend.
I don't think Walton needs to jump for Winston to come here. Winston will be the #2 PG behind a senior, and will be THE GUY the next season (I don't think Winston is a one-and-done). And Beilein can show Winston how often we have played both Spike and Walton together, so even being "behind" Walton he could get 20+ points per game. If he truly is an elite talent, he'll get more than that.
Point is - I don't think PT will be an issue for him here. We will have a good team but we aren't so stocked with guard talent that a 5 star PG will be hurting for PT.
While that is true for most 5 stars, 6' point guards seem to be a bit of an exception. It seems the NBA tends to want them to prove a bit more than the others before considering them in the lottery. 2 and done seems to be more realistic for short people.
He was talking about 6" players. Undersized players have a lot more to prove.
Crap, that explains a lot of the reactions I've been getting from women my whole life.
Rivals and 247 both have him listed at 6'0"
The USA camp actually measaures these guys...those sites merely go by what AAU teams tell them.
It did say 6' the whole time but I know how it is posting at work. I think Tyus Jones is one of those rare exceptions but for the most part if you are 6 foot or under, you are looking at having to prove yourself for at least two years before you have a shot at the lottery.
If you're not up and moving about the cabin, recommend that your seatbelt stay buckled.
But go ahead and win that state championship for UofD first.
Go cubs!
I mean, what is it about dating that everyone likes so much? / laughter / It's like a job interview that lasts all night. / laughter / The only difference is that there aren't too many job interviews where you end up naked at the end of the night. / laughter, applause - Seinfeld bows /
Eh a broken wrist to the non-dominant hand his junior year doesn't seem like a huge deal.

I'm upvoting every Cub post in this thread
Cub Post.
double
triple
too!
Probably the best high school PG i've seen in last five years. Bad that he's injured right now, but at least its during AAU and not his high school season. I think he's proven himself enough not to need the AAU season to improve his stock more
Wut. Have you seen Derryck Thornton, Jalen Brunson, Dennis Smith, DeAngello Russell, Tyus Jones, Tyler Ennis, Terry Rozier, Andrew Harrison...all better than Cassius.
Cassius is undoubtedly our top prospect, not only because he is a position of need from our local area, but also because he is very good.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves with expectations if he does end up coming here. He is at a similar stage to Derrick Walton in terms of his development (they have different strengths/weaknesses but I'm just saying how ready they are for B1G ball). He will be good not great as a freshman, but Derrick will still be here to learn from. Cassius isn't a one-and-done and he probably isn't a two-and-done. I don't think he's Trey.
My guess is he is talking about the players he has seen in person, and that he watches Mich HS basketball mostly. I liked D Walt a lot as a high schooler, but Winston is a much more polished offensive player.
That'd make more sense, yeah.
Athletically probably not.... but as far as basketball i.q. and just as a pure point guard. He's right up there with all of them. Have you seen him play? Or just going by what you heard?
