Free Press is at it Again
Freep.com just posted - as its lead story - the ridiculously stupid non-story about Michigan self-reporting those four stupid minor violations. One look at the page, and you get the impression that Harbaugh is running a program that makes SMU of the 1980s look like choirboys.
They're trying to make this seem like it's their scoop, but MLive beat them to this about 10 hours ago.
I'm posting the link here, but I'm seriously hoping you don't click on it, because they don't deserve the clicks:
http://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverine…
The story is bylined by Gene Myers (the Free Press sports editor) and somebody named Kevin Bull. Yes, they actually hauled the sports editor out to write this.
The story also includes this line, designed to further the impression that Harbaugh is running a rogue program:
"Before the spring football game April 4, U-M compliance officers met with reporters to discuss rules involving the media. At that meeting, the Free Press asked whether the new football staff had committed any violations. The compliance officers refused to comment."
I hate these guys.

Yes, should never add links to the Freep - they benefit from having a high traffic site like this one link to their content - helps with their organic rankings.
They still aren't getting any clicks from me...
Definitely just click bait.
Freep? What is this Freep? I've never heard of it...
Well, I could be wrong, but I believe Freep is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.
I'm half Irish, half Dutch. My family has also been in America since before there was such a thing as The United States. So I'd like to think I know a tad bit about The Civil War, about ships, and old wooden things.
I've never heard of this "Freep." Seems gross to me. Like a disese, or some sort of fungal infection my grandfather would talk about. My uncle was the greatest "Michigan Man" (is that trademarked?) in my family. Won a national championship. Was extremely well respected in his field beyond playing football. Never said a word to his family or colleagues about this "Freep" thing.
I'm inclined to believe it was entirely made up.
It is almost entirely made up.
Actually Freep was a death-defying high diver who died during one of his acts. RIP Freep.
I think the Freep actually believes they are Woodward and Bernstein. In their fantasy it ends like this:
Crook? No, but this is video of the newest employee at the NCAA:
"someone named Kevin Bull"
Cannot think of a more apropo last name.
Fuck the Freep.
Eh, you're freeping the freep. They don't go too over the top in that article. What are they supposed to do, not mention it?
What I object to is that they made this the lead story on their website. It should have been a two-paragraph news brief at the end of some other story.
The lead story? Really?
It's not just the lead story in Sports. It's the lead story on the entire website.
They think this is the biggest story in the entire state of Michigan today.
i doubt there's any rhyme or reason as to what makes the front page lead story, besides the obvious--what people have been clicking on and website algorithms.
I'm pretty sure there's no actual human that decides this.
This post is the total embodiment of a huge problem we have in this country.
I wouldn't wipe my ass with that worthless paper.
I would.
But you'd get ink on your anus.
And that's why i have fully switched to my new Porta-Freep....it's a classic one holer, lined with the lies of the freep for easy disposal of my necessary wastes. It comes in multiple colors and pics--my personal edition has Drew's photo on the bottom, but there are scads of other worthless writers, er, photos to choose from.
Just use a cooler like every other... ahh, never mind.
Thought of day: "No good deed goes unpunished" Oscar Wilde

Not to hammer my contrarian point, but that exact quote was in the article, right after a blip about signing a helmet for suicide awareness.
Best Grades of Semester (cont.) 7. J. Kerridge (Sport Mgmt - 3.67), 8. A. Dalimonte (LSA - 3.53), 9. S. Morris (3.52) pic.twitter.com/ST0eUcrMLk

PS-Fuck the Freep!
to be devils advocate. This is not one of them.
I'm pretty sure that's confidential stuff. And I wouldn't want my grades/major out there without my permission.
a guy like Oscar Wilde is just hilarious. There might not be two more dissimilar personalities in all of human history.
Wilde wouldn't have been caught dead in khakis.
is always going to attack UM! I bet you they will never ask for a freedom of information act to get Sparties level 2 violations. I hope when Harbaugh wins his NC at Michigan he gives the Freep the cold shoulder!
what were these minor violations?
like Chitownblu and Section 1 - getting banned is going out on top.
Haven't read it since Stretchgate. Might never again.
Wish I had that same discipline.
I haven't seen that site since that bullshit. I can honestly say that I don't miss it at all.
