Your unpopular sports opinions?
I think the NHL should bring back ties instead of gimmicky shootouts. I also think the NBA should institute a 4 point line that was talked about not that long ago. Would shake up the game of basketball like it was when the 3 was instituted.
No politics or religion, please. This is a thread on your unpopular sports opinions.

The old system was one referee and two linseman, the new system added a referee.
I really disagree that it's too much for an NHL game. One set of eyes to call penalties and get every goal and every pulled goalie is not enough with the transition speed the modern NHL has. Sticking with one referee also devalues good referee qualities in favor of someone with extremely high end skating ability (that's already a necessity in hockey that's not there in football, basketball or baseball). If you're interested here's a USA Hockey manual on the four official system with some diagrams I believe back up my view.

and i followed the rules...

Just clarifying that they moved to two referees, not four.

high socks and colored socks are fine as long as the whole team wears them the same way.
but no stupid designs on them. only plains colors. no stupid lightning strips on them.
everyting else you said is pretty spot on. facemasks on some of the newer helmets look awful

Eliminate the last call for beer at sporting events before the game is over
February 13th, 2015 at 3:30 PM ^
better yet, keep selling beer after the game is over.
February 13th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
What would you do then to make sure they don't drive drunk? (There's already a fair amount of drunk driving from pro sporting events as it is, but this would exacerbate the problem.)

Cricket could be interesting to watch. There is apparently a shorter, more fast-paced version and they're trying to get career minor leaguers into it. Could be cool.
You could bring up the Major League Lacrosse comparisons, but the difference with cricket is that it's actually fairly popular internationally - ok, mostly in the former British colonies, but it still has quite the international following, owing largely to India.
I used to autocross my MR2 Turbo, but I think NASCAR is SO dumb. Yes, it takes skill and it is suprisingly physically demanding, and there is a good amount of strategy involved, but man - going AROUND AND AROUND AND AROUND on that oval is just brutal to watch. Give me a good rally or F1 race any day (which both have their drawbacks, mainly in terms of spectatorship, i.e., you can't sit in one spot and watch the entire race).

points (runs?) then Cricket is the sport for you. I watched the world championship a few years ago and found it pretty interesting.

Soccer is the world's greatest real life example of Emperor's-New-Clothes-esque group contagion ever. Its terrible and everyone knows it but they just won't admit it.
Michael Jordan is extremely overrated, and at least 5 basketball players were significantly better than him. People ofa certain age do not understand how they were subconciously influenced by an unprecedented (at the time) media and commerical confluence towards him.
Peyton Manning is an asshole.
African-Americans who play football at Alabama are Uncle Toms.

I would rather not since it rolls over into politics which is forboden. You're smart, you can figure it out even if I'd highlight different details.
The OP wanted unpopular opinions.

I agree with you to a certain extent, except I would use a different university. I don't get for the life of me WHY THE HELL black players would play for OLE MISS.
That school had race riots on campus AGAINST black students....

Sure, I thought of listing a few SEC schools but Alabama has the most name cache and these are HOT! SPORTS! TAKES!

African-Americans who play football at Alabama are Uncle Toms.
This is a pet peeve of mine. If you've read Uncle Tom's Cabin, Tom is not at all a meek, servile figure. The popular stereotype of him is 180 degrees from what his character in the novel is actually like.

It was only about 2 years ago that Ole Miss had a protest against Obama's reelection where racial slurs were thrown around. (Link)
Alabama is probably in the Top 5 though

I ref high school games and I try to fight the good fight as much as I can.
I dont throw the flag unless it really was really necessary.
And I never throw the flag on the back side of the play unless it is a clear safety issue/cheap shot.

And I don't mean his personal life, that's none of my business. His relationship with Dr. Anthony Galea was completely swept under the rug. I think the talent on tour caught up to him, so he started taking steroids from Dr. Galea, and it's no coincidence that his body started breaking down when Galea went to jail for smuggling PEDs into the country. Obviously I don't know him personally, but I think he's an asshole because he acts like a spoiled child on the course with his tantrums, and then he quits when he's losing.
He knew damn well what he was doing with that drop at the Masters. Even as a player on my high school team, I knew what that rule was.

Have you activated your glutes today!?
February 13th, 2015 at 3:33 PM ^
I could agree with this any more. Well done sir.
Dude has been playing golf basically every day of his life for 30-35 years and claims to not know the exact rule regarding a pretty basic golf occurrence, a penalty drop, of which I am plenty familiar given how terrible I was during my H.S. golf days.

I think there should be replays in all sports for essentially every decision, with referees basically just mouthpieces for the people in the box. There is no longer any excuse for getting almost any call wrong.
February 13th, 2015 at 3:19 PM ^
Would delay the games way too much.
