CT coach Wilcher is NOT happy with Meyer, Ohio State
"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.
"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.
"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."
Wilcher told 105.1 he has talked to Weber several times, and that Weber is not happy at all.
Wilcher was asked by 105.1 host Matt Dery if Weber would be sticking with Ohio State, and he wouldn't say that.
He said Weber is talking things over with his family and figuring out what his options our [sic].

Apparently Weber is mulling his options. The story just keeps gaining momentum.

release soon. But as I am writing this, I just remembered that this would be up to Urban Meyer and Gene Smith. So, any publicity is good publicity in their mind. This could end up being a very good thing for the "good guys"
February 6th, 2015 at 1:48 PM ^
They are in a no win situation of their own creation if Weber asks for his release. You either grant it and tacitly admit you screwed him over or make a kid that doesn't want to be there stay on your team until he can transfer. I'm sorry Weber has to go through this but I'm really enjoying OSU looking like dirtballs.
February 6th, 2015 at 1:51 PM ^
If Weber gets decent legal advice, this is a a one letter of demand to OSU and the release will be faxed within the hour.
February 6th, 2015 at 1:58 PM ^
But it doesn't seem to be that "cut & dry" based on what I've been reading.
Not saying that he can't take legal action, but OSU has the tools to drag this out for a long time. It wouldn't be in their best interest, but if they want to get back into CT ever again to recruit another player, then they should probably release Weber now.

You're correct sir. This thing is done and over with a well written letter. Weber will be free to go.
February 6th, 2015 at 3:14 PM ^
Just totally contradicted what he said ......right?
February 6th, 2015 at 3:30 PM ^
I glad someone else noticed that too.

I'm not a lawyer but sometimes pose as one while trying to pick broads up. With my Vandelay-like interpretation of the law, I concur with you.

But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and I think that both Ohio State and Urban Eyer (They don't use the letter M down there so he has to go by Eyer.) suck.
February 6th, 2015 at 2:07 PM ^
OSU has all the power in this situation. It is highly unlikely they release him, let alone Michigan. OSU counsel would laugh at any demand letter.
February 6th, 2015 at 2:57 PM ^
Putting aside the legal issues, is it in OSU's interests to keep a player who doesn't want to be there?
February 6th, 2015 at 6:29 PM ^
I've seen this come up a lot. Everyone is assuming Weber doesn't want to be at OSU anymore. I have not seen him make a single comment about that. Let's wait until he (literally the only person who matters right now) makes a comment about it.
February 6th, 2015 at 7:15 PM ^
Well, he did tweet out "I'm hurt as hell I ain't gone lie," and removed some OSU mentions from his account.
February 7th, 2015 at 11:22 AM ^
That's pretty much my take on it as well. Until Weber speaks everything will be speculation.
February 6th, 2015 at 3:12 PM ^
PUBLIC RELATIONS. Attorneys are amazing at winning this battle. Especially given the circumstances surrounding Mike Webers coercion to sign. It's called a "bait and switch" in any industry.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:07 PM ^
I don't think that OSU counsel would laugh at a demand letter if the facts are as bad as they certainly seem to be: meaning, the coach had the job in his pocket, but said he had to wait until NSD to make it official; meanwhile, he talked with Weber and said things that indicated he would be coaching Weber at OSU, and that was a reason to come there. If there is evidence Urbs knew the guy was leaving--of course, he did--this would give even more reason for concern. I think OSU looks like slime if those facts are established, and I think you have a good lawsuit against the school, NCAA and Big Ten if they don't turn you loose to sign wherever you want without waiting. I doubt the NCAA wants another fight where it looks like a bully and might well lose. And I'm a lawyer too.
February 6th, 2015 at 2:21 PM ^
The far more likely outcome is Weber waits out one year for his LOI to expire and then signs with a team in 2016. The problem is that he is no-man's land in terms of schooling, since he obviously can't go back to HS and I'm not sure if he could go to another college as a student without drawing the ire of the NCAA. It's actually pretty F'ed up, and I'm not sure OSU would do much to make his life any easier.
February 6th, 2015 at 3:42 PM ^
under no circumstance will I be playing at OSU. Force their hand. Its really too bad for him. I hope he can get it worked out in way that makes him happy.

You seem to be painting with the widest and most innacurate of brushes, bud.
Also, who the hell quotes the sage philosopher Carmelo Anthony in reference to a college football issue?
February 6th, 2015 at 2:30 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 2:10 PM ^
but Michigan fans who said he was unwise in choosing Ohio State seem to have been proven right, and pretty quickly.
Anytime you decommit from a school and commit tot their main rival, you are going to have some jackass fans say bad things about you. That's just the way it works. Especially whn you take pot shots at the team's coaching staff on your way out. Michigan has it's share of idiot fans just like any other program. If Weber is making his decisions based on the vocal idiot portion of each team's respective fan bases, then good grief, every team is in trouble.

February 6th, 2015 at 2:41 PM ^
Good for us??
A kid gets screwed over, but bc we were right in hindsight, it makes everything better? Taking credit for guessing right without any information to base your opinion on is idiotic.
February 6th, 2015 at 2:11 PM ^
There were Michigan fans here and on twitter upset with Weber's decision and acting like idiots in insulting a high schooler. That being said, all fan bases has plenty of morons who say stupid stuff all the time, if you think people here are worse than other fan bases I don't know what to tell you. If Weber decides not to go to Michigan after this that is fine, but I certainly hope its not because he thinks the fans here are so much worse than they are anywhere else.
February 6th, 2015 at 2:23 PM ^
I know, it's like the internet is full of people of varying opinions and personal beliefs. And sometimes those people react differently/wrong/rightly to a situation.
Yes, some people talked crap about Weber when he went to OSU. OSU fans will talk crap about him if/when he leaves. That's life - if your argument is that people are hypocrites, then you have identified every person in the history of the world.

February 6th, 2015 at 2:14 PM ^
and get him to say how happy he is to be a Buckeye. It will all be some big misunderstanding that got worked out. Urban will then say he offered to let Weber out of his LOI but Mike declined because he wants to play for Meyer.
February 6th, 2015 at 2:50 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 3:04 PM ^
That's what I've been expecting since I first heard of this. Meyer will get into Weber's head and spin all this as much as possible.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:08 PM ^
I agree with all of you but we also don't know who is stiring up the hornets nest by being in his other ear telling him all the bad of Urban and OSU (...CT coaches.... other program coaches...etc)
This could get real interesting....

February 6th, 2015 at 8:51 PM ^
I agree but I am a huge believer in karma. It's going to catch up with him one day. This Weber incident might be it....it might not be...but mark my words, his day is coming.
Also I wanted to add, if Weber does stay it doesn't mean that Urbbie snake oiled his brain back to where he wants it. Weber and family may feel they have really no other option but to stay. His options are very limited. Stay, sit out for at least a year waiting on his transfer to expire at another school, or leave the B1G. Which is the easiest of the three here?
February 6th, 2015 at 6:38 PM ^
Sounds like that would work out really well for Weber and the only people who it wouldn't work out for are Michigan fans?
If Weber gets talked of the ledge (and he may not even be on the ledge), has a successful career at OSU and then graduates to the NFL, is any of this really going to hurt anyone but the Michigan fans who don't want OSU's football team to win games?
If your scenario happens, it seems like Weber will be happy. Don't you want that?
February 6th, 2015 at 7:33 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 9:23 PM ^
Also, LOL at "graduates to the NFL"
February 7th, 2015 at 7:30 AM ^
are misstatements of material facts that had a direct impact on a young man's decision for his future.
In such areas as an executive doing this to shareholders, he could (and would) be prosecuted.
Business owners would be sued.
This is an ethical issue that goes far beyond a few butthurt Michigan fans.
Not to mention this behavior is not inconsistent with the reputation that Urban build down in Florida.
But his sins are going to be forgiven, because he wins national championships. And if the heat gets turned up, he bolts for TV or (in other instances) gets promoted to the NFL.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
Urban Meyer will have to decide if he wants to keep Weber and have no chance of ever getting anyone from Cass Tech as long as Wilcher is the HC there or release him and take his chances. And I'm still not so sure Meyer will live this down, even if he does grant Weber a release.
