Tom Brady Giving MVP Chevy Truck to Malcolm Butler as Thanks
Brady told @DandCShow that he "would love" to give the MVP truck to Malcolm Butler. Going to try to "make that work."

Classy move

Totally agree it was a classy move by Tom Brady to give the MVP gift away to Malcolm Butler to show his appreciation. The one thing I don't understand, why would Chevy have that as the MVP gift? Why not a Corvette, or new Camaro? If they did want to give a truck, then why not give a top of the line luxed out truck with leather etc., as the gift? Did they honestly feel that Tom Brady, or any of the other possible "stars" of the game, would be driving around in a mid-size truck? If Marshwn Lynch won the MVP, would Beast Mode be tolling around in it?

It's about what Average Joe who watches Tom Brady get a truck might want to buy.

They just went bankrupt a couple of years ago, still saving money as much as they can.

Don't forget about the "technology and stuff" too!!!

Chevy is trying to really move Colorados, and giving the impression that Tom Brady will be driving a Colorado is kinda the point.
Science!

And even after the postseason ends Brady finds a way to win

Butler could probably actually use it considering he's probably only on a bare minimum contract.

thoughtless of GM. Actually, the cost of the truck to GM is far less than it would have cost it to buy TV time.

I know I was trying to figure out another word in the moment then just said fuck it.

I don't think that Butler needs anything.

And each player and coach gets $180k for winning the Super Bowl. Butler is doing alright.

Motor Trend truck of the year!

I assume its loaded with options, so maybe it tops out at 35,000 or 40,000. Maybe

This was an easy decision. Can anyone imagine Tom pulling up to his apartment in the city and picking Giselle up in a midsize pick up truck???? Yeah i don't see that happening haha. I think Butler should get a nice bonus from the Pats to go with that truck. Knowing the Patriots, they'll probably cut him next year so they should give him a going away present.

I heard that Butler and Gray were the last two people Belichick was debating to put on the active roster. Butler made the cut, so Gray was inactive for the Super Bowl.
What fortune.

Good to see things like this. Brady probably doesn't need the truck, and I'm sure Malcolm Butler really appreciated it. Butler has made a name for himself and it's awesome to see; I hope a nice, new and long-term contract is coming his way soon.
February 3rd, 2015 at 10:14 PM ^
The last thing they want is for Brady to give away that truck. Watch them step up to the plate and give Butler one too.
February 3rd, 2015 at 10:21 PM ^
If Brady keeps the truck, it is probably not mentioned much again. By giving it away, it provides more media exposure, and in a sense, additional free advertising. However, I do like your idea about giving away another truck to Butler. That will also create additional exposure.
February 3rd, 2015 at 10:29 PM ^
The only reason for Chevy marketing to let Brady get rid of the truck is if their demographic doesn't like Brady or likes Butler better. It looks bad for the product if the recipient gives it away (a product truly worth coveting is not given away so quickly). I think this is an easy one for Chevy (after all the cost of the truck is chump change to them) and looks much better if they give one to Butler and then have a photo-op with the two of them next to their trucks.

I get what you're saying but think it's a stretch here. Maybe he just feels the guy who won the game for them deserves something really, really awesome. All this does is call more attention to the truck and make it more memorable.
February 4th, 2015 at 12:55 AM ^
but just look at most of the comments on this thread, which seem to be along the lines of "Why would Brady want that truck?". While I agree with you that it is a cool thing to do, the perception is clear that he doesn't want the truck.
February 3rd, 2015 at 10:47 PM ^
- Most of America will think - What use does Brady have for this truck? He has just about everything already. A free agent rookie, who most of America had never heard of prior to his interception, is much more of a feel good story that the public can empathize with.
- What if Tom were to get rid of the truck anyway? It would look much better for Chevy if Brady gives it as a reward to Butler, as opposed to just getting rid of it.
February 4th, 2015 at 12:57 AM ^
1. Perception is that he doesn't want/need the truck.
2. It looks bad if he just gets rid of it (unless done quietly).
That's why Chevy should (and my guess will) give Butler a truck and let Brady keep the one given to him until such time as he can donate it quietly.

The 30k it costs to buy that truck is pocket change for Brady. I don't think he'll miss that car one bit.
