Marrow To Stay At UK
A couple of Kentucky outlets are reporting that Wildcats TE coach Vince Marrow is staying with UK; this one in particular was accurate about things being up in the air when others were reporting that he was a goner:
BREAKING: Source tells KSR that Vince Marrow will return to Kentucky. Deal to be announced tomorrow
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) January 5, 2015
This is a much bigger deal for Kentucky than it was ever going to be for Michigan, as Marrow was connected to about half of their recruiting class—Michigan is going to do just fine on the recruiting trail under Harbaugh either way.

Durkin more important than Marrow. Shannon Turley most critical of all.
Godspeed JH. It's all good.

I hope that didn't sound too ridiculous

Hold on, you gotta draw the line somewhere. To hell with purple people! Unless they're suffocating - then help 'em!

What about Brian Kelly?

Completely agree, I thought Hoke's staff was disturbingly chocked full of old white dudes, especially when both Borges and Mattison were there.

The objective is to put together the best staff. Period.

A sport dominated by African-Americans should have diversity in its coaching staffs. This does NOT mean we go out and pick minorities just b/c they're minorities.
There is an advantage when your coaching staff can relate to recruits in a sport dominated by recruiting whether it is race (cultural factors etc) or not.
Your ignorance and whitewashing is showing if you don't understand that basic logic in the post.

So there should be no black coaches in hockey?
January 4th, 2015 at 11:37 PM ^
Here lemme help you:
"This does NOT mean we go out and pick minorities just b/c they're minorities."
Did I ever say that people of certain races should be DQed?
Last time I checked hockey is majority white, and is coached by majority white coaching staffs.
In football, you have mostly white coaching staffs coaching mostly black teams...
What are you arguing again? Your argument is a false equivalence.

...and that's the unfortunate part. It sucks that there are still kids out there that would rather not be couched by an all white staff.
This may sound ridiculous, I kinda don't want those kind of kids. I want kids that are open and welcoming of all races.

you hide behind a (presumably) genuine but unrealistic color-blind argument that neither reflects the reality of the world nor (for our purposes here) the reality of college football.

So, who's going to be the person next in line to take his position?

Still really thought Marrow could make our recruiting staff one of the best in the entire country. Dismissing it as not a big deal is not fair in my opinion. Yes, UK needed him to stay more than we needed him to come here. I think if he came though then we could really make some major moves in the state of Ohio...the same kind Urban is doing here (insert Cass Tech kid never pan out meme).

From all we've heard lately (admitting my lack of familiarity with this coach until recently), it seems as if he's a dynamite recruiter who could have helped a lot in Ohio.
Fairness on this site or on these boards is not always a strong suit, I'm afraid.

Don't really get his wanting to be part of the Stoops family (Kentucky Version) coaching treee vs. Harbaugh but...whatever.

There was a comment in one of the board threads that Tony Gonzalez would be announced (not sure if serious) but he has never been a coach, which makes me more than a bit suspicious.
January 4th, 2015 at 10:34 PM ^
It was not serious.
January 4th, 2015 at 10:47 PM ^
I guess for Marrow, it must be his loyalty to Stoops (which I'm sure Harbaugh respects) keeping him in Lexington.
Either that, or he really likes horse racing. And bourbon.

But as Harbaugh himself demonstrated, money isn't everything.
January 4th, 2015 at 10:34 PM ^
... only because it is disappointing. I had some pipe dreams about him accepting the job and then immediately flipping that Damien Harris guy.
I do have this feeling we gonna be a-ok, though. It also makes sense in light of the Anderson rumors. I was beginning to wonder how we were going to hire all of these coaches. It was going to be some very spectacular new math. "We do have only nine coaches, it's just a matter of how you count them."
