Would you take Braxton Miller if he transfers?

Submitted by lilpenny1316 on

One of ESPN's college football analysts was on the radio this morning talking about OSU's QB situation next year.  They mentioned the possibility Braxton Miller graduates early and transfers to play somewhere else next year.  Would you like to see our next HC go after him?

If all these 70-85% gut feelings are accurate, then we know our next HC has run read option in San Fran.  I think Shane and our other QBs have the talent to be good, but I don't know if they would be our best option come late August.  I assume we could deal with a Buckeye transferring in since there seemed to not be a large, vocal opposition to Herman in the head coaching posts.  Is it worth it to "recruit" Braxton Miller?

so, yes, in a heartbeat.  If he came along with a lot of off-field baggage, I'd say he's not worth it.  However, unless I'm unaware of him having a checkered past, I don't believe that's the case.  Sign me up, although it seems extremely unlikely to occur.

From all accounts, he's a good kid.  But I don't think his shoulder would allow him to be a starter.  Maybe as a change of pace QB and to give whoever starts next year a break, I'm assuming Morris.

The odds of it happening are 1/1000 but I would accept him with open arms.  How could you pass up on him?  My prediction is he stays and plays RB next year, the thing we should have done when we had Gardner and Denard.

Yes? Not only is he awesome at football, it would be an incredible FU to Ohio State in Harbaugh's first season. plus even if he's hurt, he's gone after one season anyway. Low risk/high reward.

Good quarterback with no known character issues?  Sign him up.

Of course I think he might not be eligible for a scholarship (inter B1G transfer), but don't know the ins-and-outs of it.

This is a theory versus practice issue.

On paper, in theory there is no reason not to consider anyone who could transfer in and help the team. On paper and in theory - and after the Russell Wilson experience at Wisconsin,  it was given a huge boost in credibility. No one seems to track all of the failures and mediocre transfers. But since this is college football we always use the most optimistic example. :)

In practice, there are a lot concerns beyond the offensive scheme. First, would it disrupt team cohesions. I don't mean any Buckeye Wolverine stuff - but the day to day actual getting along with people. By most accounts that is a key early factor why Russell Wilson was very successful at Wisconsin - he came in, was humble and nice, said all of the nice things, made friends AND then went out there in practice and showed he had the stuff - so much so that he was a captain on the team - then of course he backed this all up on gameday. His debut game as a Badger when they destroyed Nebraska and he showed great running and ability to throw the long ball, pretty much closed down any critics.

So is Braxton Miller that type of guy? Second, can he handle the transfer? Can his record transfer here? Can he put up with the Buckeye traitor hater crap that will flow his way?

Third, is he interested? I'm sorry if some may find the following comment blasphemous but the Wolverines were not a great team last year. We weren't challenging for the division or the conference title. IF he were to move for one season to tune up his pro prospects why not some other place (e.g. UCLA where they will be losing Brett Hundley).

Good idea in theory but like a lot of good ideas the issues are putting in practice.

If I'm Braxton id go to Oregon. I don't think he can make enough of the throws to run a hybrid pro style offense against a great defense.

That being said, yes, I'd take him if he wanted to come play under Harbaugh. It would be super weird but whatever.

I like what some other teams do with the change of pace QBs. You put Shane out there on the obvious passing downs and everything that isn't an obvious running down. Then put Braxton out there on the obvious running downs. He still has a decent arm

ITT: people with a tinge of the Sparty Complex

The only logical/sane/reasonable answer to this question is "Yes." Of course, as Brian noted before when this topic came up, even if Braxton wanted to come to Michigan, there is no chance that OSU would release him to transfer there.

We really need a good QB for next your is a desparate sort of way, but I distinctly remember him giving us crap about our spring game attendance on Twitter. As much as that seems really petty to get butt hurt about, I would have a really hard time forgetting that stuff as he was leading our team, and he would seem like such a turncoat.

1.) Seems unlikely he comes here; 2.) He'd be a great asset. 3.) In any event, he needs to wait and see who the new coach is and what the incoming system will be. If he heals well, his best shot now is probably still at OSU. I wonder if it stretches the playbook at all to have three championship-level QBs available in the backfield at one time?

No one knows if Braxton will ever be able to play QB again. He's had 2 surgeries on throwing shoulder. Folks down here are already saying that if Cardale 'Ain't here to play school' Jones leads them to a NC, he should be next years starter.

will coach up  our solid 4* marginal 5* QB Morris back up to being a good QB. Shane has talent but was exposed to poor coaching that has retarded his development.

I'd take XBrax 360 in a second, if he wants to come and is able to transfer to Michigan. He's not a troubled kid, except for the injury. Then even if the injury doesn't heal correctly and he's still not the greatest passer (he never was a great passer before), it won't matter so much because we only have one great catcher, and he's a tight end (Jake Butt). If he was to run out of that tunnel wearing the winged helmet, the offense would automatically have some scare factor. Without him, what is there to fear?

What if Marcus Mariota wanted to transfer to Michigan for his fifth year? The question has two parts: 1) Yes, and 2) a cosmic impossibility -- the same as this question. The guys has THIS TATTOO ON HIS FREAKING ARM:

For OSU, it's a nice problem to have. No chance that even if we tried to recruit him that OSU would release him to us. But absolutely, you recruit him because he is one of the best athletes in the college game right now.
