Gil Brandt says Cutcliffe turned Michigan down

Submitted by flashOverride on

Per Twitter.

If I recall, he was also all about Schiano to Michigan a few days ago. So, yeah.

Nobody turns us down! We always get our first candidate! Brady Hoke was the only guy we offered in the last search! This is Michigan!...

Fucking hell. No one is incredulous at the idea of someone turning Michigan down. They're incredulous at the idea that David Cutcliffe of the Duke Blue Devils purportedly was the first confirmed offer. That's simply not believable.

There's a 90% chance this is BS, because it would never get that far unless interest was recipricated.

That said, there IS an excellent chance that Cutliffe turned away Michigan's interest and he won't be the last.

People need to get over the idea that every head coach at an "inferior" program is automatically going to jump to Michigan because of history, prestige, or "resources".  For Michigan to hire away a successful power 5 coach there needs to be some significant reason for said person to leave (e.g., fighting with an A.D) or a specific connection to Michigan (a la Harbaugh/Miles).

Please do a little research on the godfather of the NFL draft and have some respect for an all time great NFL executive. Secondly, if he was contacted to gauge interest and Cutt said no thanks, that's pretty much turning them down. Nothing crazy or groundbreaking here...

I'm think I'm finished following the talking heads on this until somebody is signed. Too many agendas, and people throwing nonsense around, followed by PANIC and a bunch of dur hurr hurr comments from trolls on twitter. Wake me up in 2015.

And he has roots there as OC under Fulmer (and developing Peyton Manning).  Maybe he just wants a low pressure situation.  It's not a surprise that he isn't interested, though in my view he should have been much higher on our list.

If Jim Hackett marched into A2 with Cutcliffe on his arm, we'd have seen football tickets as peel off prizes on the sides of Taco Bell cups.

NFL pundits need to STFU. Two or three more weeks of this stuff. It feels like it'll be a year.

I'm almost starting to want Harbaugh to come just to see what these ass hat NFL reporters say then. Nothing make me happier than to see Jimmy give the NFL the bird on his way to Ann Arbor.

What is his connection to anything Michigan related?

Until Harbaugh comes out and says "no" in a presser or "I will not be the next coach at Michigan", I'm believing it's possible.

Miles should be plan B and after that...threshold of Hell!

Everything else is just noise.  Some of it my be spun by Michigan to get the heat off Harbaugh; some of it may be coaches trying to throw their own hat in the ring (Gruden)

I seriously doubt Michigan would offer Cutcliffe the job until after JH and Miles have said no.  Since neither has done that.  Brant is full of shit

"David, are you interested in applying for the Michigan job" "No, thank you though" is a hell of a lot different than turning down the offered job. Come on, man. This muckracking is very Sparty-esque

I don't like the rumor therefore it is BS. If in liked the rumor it would be valid. Signed, Everyone here. Were all losing our minds and it's time to relax. Whatever happens we're going to en up with a better fish than Hoke.

I have turned Michigan down.  Hackett reached out to me 5 minutes ago, but I let him know I was not interested.  I have spent all of my time coaching football in the <nowhere> so I didn't feel that it would translate well to Ann Arbor.

Plus my wife hates the weather there.  Seriously.  Moved her there from California in 2011 and we lasted 2 years before she forced us to move somewhere warmer.  I'm not making the weather part up.  The rest of this post may not be entirely true.
