CC: Sam Webb says Addazio and Schiano are rising up the board

Submitted by pfholland on

Sam Webb is stating that Greg Schiano is, "generating the majority of buzz," and the BC's Steve Addazio's name is, "being mentioned more and more in Ann Arbor."  Apparently Addazio's style of play and BC academics are the primary reasons.

As an aside, Sam has made the decision to be the sole voice on coaching search updates over at the Michigan Scout premium board, effectively censoring Tom Beaver.  Sam and Tom's information hasn't been agreeing (Tom has been far more optimistic on Harbaugh) but until now both viewpoints were presented.  No more.  I would typically never post premium content elsewhere (and never have before), but after this move along with Sam's locking of the thread where subscribers were crticizing his decision he can go fuck himself.

Is based on the fact that John Brantley was a pile of vomit and the first QB that ever flopped in an Urban Meyer offense? Because if you take that out, I see a guy who was able to make a bowl with Temple and who resurrected a Boston College team that had been utterly destroyed by a meddlesome AD who preceeded Brad Bates. I see a guy who runs with power and uses the option, like old Bo teams. I see a guy who has recruited the northeast for years at a high level. And he's done it at a high level institution.

I'm just saying, he's got positive attributes and the comparison to Brady Hoke is bizarre. He's not my first choice, but he's certainly not the worst choice. That would be Schiano, because we'd be stuck with dinosaur ball and having to root for a complete asshole.

Also, are you watching Urban Meyer dismantle a decent team with his third string QB? We absolutely cannot afford to hire someone whose ceiling is obviously mediocre. Either get Harbaugh or Stoops or take a chance on an unknown.

That's how bad John Brantley was. He is quite possibly the most inept quarterback to play for a P5 team in the last decade. Couldn't throw, couldn't run, couldn't think under pressure either.

I'm not saying Addazio should be top of the leaderboard. But as a fallback option if the big names turn Michigan down? Sure. I think he's a hell of a lot better option than who Nebraska just hired for example. And Florida hired a guy who had 3 wins against teams that finished with winning records. The pickings are slim if Harbaugh/Miles/Mullen say no.

Florida's new coach beat Addazio's team on the road and developed two generic 2-stars into record breaking offensive players (Brian's assertion that CSU rode Dee Hart to a 10-2 record is blatantly false).

If the top candidates leave, take a chance on someone ala OSU and Tressel. Adazzio or Schiano could kill the program permanently.

Like, he just signed a deal with Florida. He's not an option for Michigan now. If Michigan can't get Harbaugh to leave the NFL, Les decides he's too old to leave LSU and Mullen decides he's happy in Starkville, who is Michigan hiring better than Addazio? He's easily the best coach available with HC experience. It's either Addazio or a coordinator gamble, and enough schools have been burned by the no-experience coordinator that nobody is doing that right now.

If either of theses two are hired you are going to have an angry fan base. Low ticket sales etc. This hire needs to be the correct and excitable hire. Good god, if we only get coaches at the level of these two names we have fallen

I would take Pelini in a second over either of those candidates.

I am hanging tight with my seat donations until I see what happens with this hire.  Too much good will has been burned with me the past few years.

I just don't believe that Hackett is really considering either.  That type of decision would not unite anyone, might as well re-hire RR.

Wait so we're gonna believe an anonymous Reddit poster, who could very well be a troll, but bash Sam Webb who has credible sources?

Meh I'm all for it LOL

fucking with people.

He could have held this until tomorrow or even Monday.

He says he doesn't, I think he believes he doesn't, but he's pissed about Michigan football, he thinks he's above the rest of us, rolling himself out in front of the camera has gone to his head and it's come to the point that he enjoys tormenting the rest of us. Because it somehow makes him feel even more above it all.

Having lived in Florida for quite a few years, I was forced to see a lot of Greg Schiano. The guy is simply not a good coach. Don't even think about seeing any half time adjustments with him. It would really be Hoke 2.0, but with a lot more yelling and cussing

I'm so tired of these bullshit "source" threads.  I just can't help myself, I have to click and I regret it every time.  I know a guy who knows a guy, the ex-player angle, I've got family in the AD, random internet guy, random radio guy, I mean for fucks sakes, really?  The only thing clear here is that Hackett has done a pretty good job at keeping the lid on the process because nobody knows shit about shit.

Jim, as previously mentioned in various other posts on this blog, we know you scan through these daily. We appreciate you keeping close to the fan base. Let me reiterate how much it means to us if you come to Michigan. I remember when you beat the Lions in Detroit and that hand shake with Schwartz, that was the moment. I knew you had the competitive edge so many lack. You cared about winning a little more than others. Reminds me of some guy we use to know........Bo.

i agree. hire one of thees types, the emasculation of the football program is complete. in doing so, michigan would be saying that they can't/don't want to compete. michigan then becomes the new northwestern. fine. i guess, i will have more time for other things.

some tech savvy/IT mgoblogger should start a website/movement as a preemptive strike against something like this.

FWIW.  On the pregame for OSU/Wiscy Bruce Feldman said that Harbaugh is not coming, and that UM has no backup plan, and the entire search has been a disaster up to this point.

If we hire either of these guys we are honestly fucked as a football program for years. There is no way we're competing with Urban Meyer or Mark Dantonio with those guys as HC.

I find either one of these names to be as exciting as a fart in a bath tub. Good lord, and yes I'm overreacting (not drinking), we are settling again. We are in the same spot for the third time in less than eight years. Einstein was right about insanity.
