John U. Bacon on ESPN Sportscenter at 9:05pm EST

Submitted by Simps on

Bacon will be on Sportscenter at 9:05pm to discuss the Michigan situation. Thought some people here might be interested.

He posted this on Twitter. (Can't embed tweet on mobile)

Edit: here's the link he posted in the tweet http://espn.go.com/video/sportscenter

So I'm not sure if it's on the ESPN news live showing of Sportscenter at 9pm or if it'll just be a clip at the above link.

Edit 2 Summary: thinks Hoke may be fired tomorrow.

Asked about his legacy and he said Hoke is well liked but with a mediocre record.

Asked about who he wants as the next coach and he said Jim Harbaugh emphatically.

Smugly asked about chances Michigan lands Jim or Les and he responded that Jim was trickier but he quoted Les from one of his books saying "I'll never say no to Michigan"

Asked for percentages of next coach he said 51% Jim Harbaugh, 25% Les Miles and 24% for the rest of the world.

I am sick of John U. Why is he always trotted out for this stuff? I don't think he has any inside info. At this point it is more likely he is trolling the whole Michigan fan base.

I think that might be a little harsh. It seems to me that Bacon typically qualifies his answers appropriately, enough so that you do understand that his is an educated guess and little else. The fact that he is rather obliging to outlets and others who ask him questions might put his name out there enough to give people this impression, but I suggest that the evidence so far speaks for another interpretation of events.

Does anyone actually WANT Miles this go round?  I think he's too old and won't be able to oversign here.

Les is 61, only 3 years older than Dantonio.  If Dantonio were a realistic option for UM, would anyone turn him down because of age?  I didn't think so.

Les has a track record of consistently being in the top 10.  He wins games, and is a big name coach from the toughest division of the toughest conference in college football.  He would be able to recruit to M extremely easily.  No, he wouldn't be able to oversign, but neither does anyone else in the B1G, so that doesn't matter.

Actually if you want to get TECHNICAL he downgraded his chances for one of the Harbaughs or Miles.  He has been saying "85% chance of Miles, Harbaugh or Harbaugh" if Brandon was removed for a long time.  So we've lost 10% in aggregrate captain!

Or maybe that 10% was John all along.  And we're holding steady at 75%.

Of maybe John was once 20%, and even with his removal we've moved up 10% incrementally with the other 2 candidates.

GET HIM BACK ON ESPN TO EXPLAIN!

Maybe we should get him back on ESPN so that the ESPN anchors can continue to sound like idiots and we can listen. Shad earlier said "Mullen would be a good coach for MICHIGAN STATE..." Apparently he's not up to date w what team we are talking about. And the idiot that interviewed Bacon said Harbaugh grew up in Ohio.

Glad a global sports network is full of idiot and yet I still watch. Why???

one slams Michigan's academics and the other says he will never say no to Michigan. Both are successful Head coached with one winning a NC. Tell me again why you wouldn't take the sure thing in Miles? Plus I think if Harbaugh came he would back in NF L in 3-4 yrs.

NFL =/= NCAA.  Players have bigger egos, and that doesn't jive well with Jim's ego.  This has already been elaborated on a lot so I won't go any further with it.

Suffice to say that if Jim is successful here, he would be able to stay as long as he wanted, otherwise the fanbase would probably burn the athletic department down.

Theyre both very good coaches and both have a lot of hardware to their names. Miles has been to two National Championship games, winning one, and another BCS bowl (Sugar), won the SEC West three times and the SEC twice.

Harbaugh has won the NFC once and been to the NFCCG three times. He won the Orange Bowl at Stanford but never finished higher than 2nd in the Pac.

You really honestly cannot go wrong with either guy. And Les will accept the job if offered. Jim may weigh NFL offers/what SF may do trade wise with him before looking to Michigan.
