is it bad to cheer against Harbaugh in San Fran for him to miss the playoffs?

Considering multiple sources BEFORE the season said it was Super Bowl or fired for Harbaugh...I call bullshit.
He can make the playoffs. If the man wants to come to Michigan, he'll come to Michigan...making the playoffs would just delay everything assuming he coaches SF to the end.

Fuck the NFL.
I care about Michigan.

He's not going back to SF no matter what so JH will be looking for a job. And maybe he doesn't want to be another nomadic pro coach clashing with Pro athletes and front offices all across the country.
So, I want him at UM coming off a SB win.
That is worth waiting for...it would be an epic coup and would be something none of UM's rivals could come close to matching.

if he comes to Michigan after the Super Bowl, it means he's coming in February. He'll have missed the entire recruiting period. That would be incredibly idiotic. No.
November 23rd, 2014 at 9:54 PM ^
except, you know, Harbaugh.
November 23rd, 2014 at 9:57 PM ^
I think he'd be a pretty effective recruiter without contacting recruits at all if what he was doing instead was winning the Super Bowl.

there are exactly three days between the Super Bowl and National Signing Day. Are they just all going to switch to us on the day? Don't be stupid. We're not hiring a coach who can't actually take the job until February.

Small class and short-term thinking....
I'll trade that for a SB winning coach that is going to be at UM for the long-term. What he might lose in this years small class will be MORE than made up for in the years to come.

From all indications it looks like Harbaugh is gone regardless..and it may not be a firing. He seems to be just as fed up with them as they are with him. I mean he's already taken them to the game, nearly won it and yet no extension is even being mentioned.
As for the UM brass...of course you'd have to think they'd have already worked something out with JH behind the scenes. Of course there's a risk..but a risk worth taking when considering the other options (except maybe the other JH).
Again...give me the ultimate winner as coach and go from there (NEVER choose losing over winning..ever)...its time for UM to make some positive national noise...and start to throw off all of the negative baggage.

Ever since he said,"Of course, we're going to win."and backed it up by going out and beating Ohio State, I've rooted for him, and he has held a special place for me. He is probably my favorite Michigan QB of all-time, but whatever is best for the program. We really need change

It really has to be seen to get the full effect. Per our Wolverine Historian:

That Harbaugh doesn't make it to the end of the season in SF? If they are eliminated Greg Roman could finish off the last couple of games and Harbaugh would be free to look elsewhere.

The Niners have been playing a very ugly brand of football most of this year. Losing late, and inexplicably, and the team has a sputtering offense propped up by a defense that can dominate. This feels to me like late-Carr era football.
Having said that, Harbaugh is done here regardless of what happens the rest of the season. The only thing I can think of that may move the needle re Harbaugh to Michign is if logical landing places (Chicago, Oakland, NY, Miami) either become dumpster fires, or stay out of the coaching market.

As soon as I turned it on SF marches down the field. Sorry guys.
November 23rd, 2014 at 7:06 PM ^
I believe the situation is far too fluid to say he's "definitely" staying or going, but yeah, I do think SF making the playoffs wouldn't do Michigan's chances any favors, so yes I root against them.

Touchdown 49ers. DAMMIT
November 23rd, 2014 at 7:10 PM ^
Johnson will give him what he wants--total control. At this point this is his most likely landing point.

competition. Neither UM or any other NCAA can offer him the level of competition and the chance to win the Super Bowl. For a hyper-competitive person like Harbaugh the drive to get that ring is awfully powerful. I doubt that UM can overcome that.
UM's only shot is if Harbaugh is sick of the NFL and instead focuses on becoming the best college football coach there ever was.

I don't want a coach who failed in the NFL. He could go 10-6 and still miss the playoffs.
I'm not rooting for Harbaugh to lose. I'm just rooting for him to come to Michigan.
November 23rd, 2014 at 7:14 PM ^
I'm only rooting against his team enough to miss the playoffs.
