will take a long time to hammer out. DB is owed a lot of money; and has returned quite a bit of his own money to the school since he was hired. This needs to be handled very carefully.

Simply because I, like everyone else, have not had the chance to talk to President Schlissel about football nor has any type of in depth interview been conducted with him on the matter.

I know it's impossible to say, "Taking away football..." but humor me.  If you take away the football failures and shortcomings on the field, there is at least reason to support Dave Brandon as AD.  Basketball is back to prominance, Softball and Field Hockey have had some good press for their facility upgrades, etc.

Has the anger over ticket price increases for students and season ticket holders really been about money?  Or has it been about the poor product on the field?  Student tickets, IMO, should never be more than $20-$25 for football, but that's just me.  And if UM were doing what Mississippi State is doing right now, and going from unranked at the start of the season to #1, are we really discussing firing Dave Brandon?

Unless you want to go back to 2011 and argue that his firing should be because he hired a man with little/no success as a head football coach to coach at UM simply because he coached here once before, people who disagree with you aren't totally wrong.

football is UM's #1 cash cow by far for it's athletic department.  and it's the AD's job to ensure its continued success.  to oversee a declining/failing football program, yet taut the basketball and softball successes as reasons to keep his position is just plain wrong.

that would be like the CEO of dominos wanting to keep his job while pizza reviews and sales are declining but saying, "hey but our breadsticks sales are up".

based on what i've read, future athletic dept budget projections are precarious, the football program is in disarray, the fanbase feels alienated. that is all on dave brandon.

brandon must go.  asap.

Schlissel is a new university president.  He probably would rather not have to deal with football/athletic dept. issues.

However, he is a smart guy an he knows that his long term success depends on him NOT ignoring it.

He knows that achieving his agenda on the academic side will be harder with constant negative publicity, distractions, etc. over in the athletic departement.

In a rational world things would not work this way.

But Schlissel knows how this things work in the real world, and he'll want to address the football/athletic department issue quickly so that it does not undemine support and distract from his agenda on the fund raising and academic sides.

Increasingly, new university presidents have a short period of time to make their initiatives happen before various constituencies become disillusioned, etc.  So he knows that he has to get this behind him relatively quickly.

"Reason for so many injuries" goes into some of the fundamental causative factors why injuries are up and athletic performance is down. It's on page two now. The comments people made are informative as well. If you read the whole post and comments, you'll learn some interesting things about the situation with our Strength and Conditioning program.

This is a serious issue that needs more attention.

getting mrked down by scouts as weak a real bad thing. I can see it. Our Defensives backs are weak and small. Our O-line aren't stronger and faster then the other teams players. I hope we can turn it around we have good talent but developement is not happening.

He is taking everything discussed on the internet and forming his opinions with it and spewing it as fact. This is the guy who said, just a couple weeks ago, Brandon isn't going anywhere.

You are clueless pal. Not surprised though that , that would be someone's response on here. You are just part of the Sheep that think Carr is the puppet master behind everything.

That's not true. He offered his opinion and that's all he did. Look-you obviously have a major issue with John U but don't create fake quotes to support your position.

A lot can happen in a week. For instance, a week ago I didn't know you existed on this board. Yet today, here you are going balistic about John U. Who knows, maybe a week later you will say something insightful and change my position about you.

A yes. The wonderfully logical argument that someone can't change their opinion with new knowledge. "Hey guys, sorry, but we shouldn't believe these stupid 'scientists' that say the earth is round. They already said it was flat. They're just spewing things to get more money."

And now because he doesn't have an all access press pass he can't interview people who do have access? Guess you don't believe anything Sam Webb says either. Geez, where is this animosity to Bacon coming from? Was it because he wrote some observations that painted Carr in not a great light?

Tell me more about this other side of the story. In many, if not all people's estimation, Brandon and Hoke are both grossly incompetent at their jobs and should be fired post haste with extreme prejudice. That there are still people who support them is beyond me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To be clear- I wasn't referring to todays comments about Brandon, but Bacon as a reporter and a reliable source.

You asked for an example? Bacon went on and on about administrative salaries going up, but never discussed the reasons why. Michigan added 3 (lacrosse and dance) varsity sports to the athletic department. That requires more money. You need coaches and support staff (medical trainers, academics, strength and conditioning...) for those athletes. The AD also increased the academic support for current and former student athletes, created an former student athlete alumni group, and overall increased the experience of the student athlete. All of these things cost money. None of these things are secretive. But Bacon chose not to include them. Instead he reports numbers that support his narrative and doesn't even attempt explain them except to use it as an example of how badly he thinks Dave runs the AD. And alludes that Dave is lining his own pockets with that money.

And last time I checked the coaches, current and former student athletes support Dave. People don't seem to think that matters, but it should. I'm not saying that they are the only ones that matter, but they matter and I would be shocked if the statement from the coaches and the SAAC didn't make an impression on Schlissel.

at least it is a legitimate ax. Michigan fans are being squeezed for every last penny, fed a line of "believe in the program / the program has done nothing wrong / support the troops", with embarrassing - unwatchable performances weekly on the football field. Bacon is right - they've broken what the program used to be, and he says it in every public way he can, leveraging the many "inside" sources he has. e.g., would you trust that McShay knows NFL scouts who are downgrading Michigan prospects on their conditioning? How about the Regent contacts he knows (who offered to get his press pass reinstated FWIW) or former players and coaches?

Sorry, should phrase better. Guarantees Jim H would pick up as in answer the call and listen if called. Not actively call UM himself. Still, it's a lot better than being DOA if Brandon is around. I may be inferring too much, but it seems like Harbaugh would strongly consider the UM job if Brandon wasn't there.
