OT: Sparty student section vacant

Submitted by Zoltanrules on

I sadly admit I was just as interested in the MSU-Neb game as the UM game. I couldn't believe how empty upper sections of Spartan Stadium were. These presumably were student sections. No one seems to talk about issues like this when you are winning - which I don't see us doing much of for the remainder of this season.

Also sign me up for Narduzzi as a replacement for Hoke. Michigan won championships with defense and no one else is doing it better than Narduzzi. Reality is that we aren't getting an NFL or SEC coach to take a lateral move/ demotion to come to UM. We also would be stealing from a rival. Very unlikely MSU keeps up this level of defense when he leaves for his HC job, wherever that is.

Brandon isn't going anywhere, especially by January, when we need to make the new hire by. Our new scholarly "ivy" President wants nothing to do with this issue and DB has some strong support from Regents (was told this first hand last week by someone who shared a box with some of them).

No hot name NFL or SEC coach is coming to Michigan to work for our Jerry Jones. Our team, to Brady's credit, played hard and will continue to plod their way to a non Bowl apprearance record when Hoke will be relieved of his duties... and then what? It's easy to just say fire this guy or that guy, but there has to be a "what next" plan.

Our next coach will likely be an overpaid star coordinator. If you look at football history there are many examples of guys switching to "the enemy" for a chance to improve their careers and make lots of money.

You may be right about Narduzzi not coming here... because he will get a HC job at another Power 5 school first - but he is exactly what this school needs. He can recruit Ohio, develop players to a proven defensive system, and has passion and intensity that demands excellence. Sounds like another "traitor" who was unpopular when he came to A2, Glenn Schembechler.

My point about Sparty student attendance is that when you win nobody gives a crap about non issues.

We need to get back to just winning games with a new coach and staff that gives us the best chance to do that starting November 29th, when the Hoke era should be over.

The part that scares me is the our arrogance and this whole Michigan Man stuff will be the backdrop to give Brady one more year.

After all the offensive issues this team of had if we are going to take a chance on a coordinator it would be on the offensive side of the ball.

In addition to that Michigan is in need of some good PR/buzz in a bad way and hiring a coach whose specialty is offense and/or whose team has a great offense would create a lot more buzz than hiring a defensive coordinator.

The fact that Todd Graham was able to beat USC with his backup QB is very impressive.

would u really want narduzzi as a head coach? not only would we be stealing a coach from "little brother" would he even make a good hc. Last time i remember will muschamp was the hottest DC around and look at him now. plus would he even want to coach at michigan?

our comes. I'm sure he's been promised the msu job at this point. You pretty much take a blood oath to hate UM under MD. He'd record the conversation, turn us down and play the offer for every recruit they host.....laughing. We're in "clean house & get another HC outside of the lineage mode" or another mid-major ex-UM position coach type. I've been mentioning it and finally noticed another say it last night but Austin (Detroit DC) has been oddly absent from discussion. He coached Woodson and has done well at every level regardless of job title. I think a guy like Austin is our ceiling hire unless the AD is completely cleaned out.

I think you underestimate the allure of Michigan. Mullen may well come if asked. The reason he wouldn't is the quality of his team and opportunity to win it all this or next year. That said and while I do think he is a good coach I don't think we want to jump into a spread based offense with our current players. Unless he has shown a willingness or desire to conform the system he runs to the players on the roster (who are likely to be very good the next two years) he isn't a good fit for this program.

When I was at work Friday, a coworker and fellow Michigan fan was telling me how despite how big this game was and State's recent success, they still failed to sell out. He said something to the tune of 5000 tickets had not been sold. I don't get all the Narduzzi for HC talk. One, he endorsed sixty minutes of "unnecessary roughness" against us which involved numerous personal fouls. He can take a long walk off of a short pier for that shit. Next, how much of the D's success is attributed to him and how much is attributed to Dantonio? He was a pretty successful coordinator at OSU, and their team is definitely made in his image.

I would not want to take a risk on Narduzzi.  Thus far the highest offered position he has had is HC of UConn.  He was rejected at Louisville for Bobby Petrino.  The guy who has chicks from college on his motorcycle while his wife is at home.

HC is a whole different job than coordinator.  We do not have time to take these risks.  If Narduzzi fails we are talking 15+ year rebuild.  You need a guy who you can actually assess his HC record.  Further, as others have said Dantonio is the architect there - Narduzzi is not some guru; the first 3 years at MSU the defense was bad.  Just plain bad.  Narduzzi was there the whole time and many wanted Dantonio to fire him.

I dont know what the ratio is between Dantonio and Narduzzi (50/50, 70/30, 60/40) but from the mlive beat writer comments Dantonio focuses his attention on the defense in practices because that is his roots (D-coordinator at OSU) and while not being totally negligent of offense like Hoke is, he basically gives the offensive coaches rope enough to hang themselves and if he doesnt like something he sees he buts in on offense.  But he is defensive focused.  And especially DB focused which is his speciality and what makes their defense really spin as the DBs have so much responsibility in their system.

Last, Tressel and Saban have both said Dantonio is among the best talent evaluators they have had on their staffs.  So you dont get that with Narduzzi - that is half the mix with players, not just relying on Rivals 250 chart but finding the right players for your system and that's Dantonio.

I half jokingly said last fall they should fire Hoke (post PSU) and offer Dantonio his full salary.  Dantonio was making $2M at the time in year 6 of his regime.  We could have doubled his salary and had one of the best coaches in the business (in theory - of course Dantonio would not come here).  That is a lot better idea than going on an unproven HC.

Some of you need to gain some fucking perspective STILL!

We would be taking away a key component of MSU's success, yet all you're worried about is ''taking a coach from little brother'' and ''he hates Michigan'' and all this trival bullshit. You are the reason this fanbase is so hard to appease. Because our coach has to be some fucking god sent down from the clouds and say all the right things before he gets here.

I'd rather have Dan Mullen right now, but if you don't think Narduzzi is at least worth looking at, please kindly fuck off.

Also Bob Stoops was never a head coach until Oklahoma and he did just fine. Just because it's not working with Muschamp (yet they're still 4-1 and might have found their new QB).

They were at home or bars watching the Michigan game because let's face it, just like OSU fans, they hate Michigan more than they love their own teams.

If we offered Narduzzi the reality is he'd probably say no and then talk about it to EVERYONE. If you know anything about the guy you'd know this is the case. That would be awful for Michigan.
