Can we start a petition here?
I have never seen this kind of activism at mgoblog, but may be it's time for it. Could we create a petition demanding that Brandon have no part in the choosing of a new coach? I think it should say something to the effect that it is his bad decision-making and micromanagement that has led to this impasse, and a group of thoughtful, trusted alums and employees should be chosen to carry it out. There is too much bad blood now attached to his name for the community to trust any process he is at the head of. Is there something like a survey monkey to do this with? Who can set it up?
Meantime, if you find this idea persuasive, please post something like a "yea" with your comment.

I have no idea how you would expect the AD to not be involved with an athletic's hiring.
Either DB is involved with the replacement of Hoke, or he is no longer employed by the university.

futile.

that you back Brandon? I'm saying that any choice he makes will be tainted. This is of course what the former players also asserted this week.

and I thought was obvious--was that Brandon had to go.

If Brandon could hire Harbaugh, that would mean 1) the football program just got a lot better; 2) Brandon must have promised to stop doing all his Jerry Jones-esque crap like watching film with the coach; and 3) there'd be no need for marketing fiascos like the Coke promotion, because fans would actually want to buy tickets.
Brandon becoming more competent at his job would be helpful because conducting both an AD and HC search this fall would be problematic. Of course, if we can pull that off and still land a Harbaugh, better still.

consulting firms are out there and better equipped at evaluating coaching candidates than an AD. i would immediately fire hoke and brandon and hire such a firm. the board of regents along with the firm (and even some former trusted football alumni) could make a better decision than brandon.
unfortunately, we have a president that just started here. i'm not sure he has the cajones to fire brandon so early in his tenure.

Not a rhetorical question, as I don't actually know:
Who does the firinf of David Brandon?
Only the President?
Is there not a board of trustees (or something similarly named) that can bring that kind of grievance to the President?

have an amazing track record for fomenting change. It's the obvious way to go here.

Michigan should consider including John Beilein as a member of any coaching search/hire committee. MSU did that with Izzo in the Dantonio hire. I think the strong relationship between basketball and football has not only paid dividends for MSU but could also be a model for these decisions.
JB is arguably your biggest asset right now.

intern yesterday, came in and fired the intern in question. That means--at the very least--that the assistant will read it.

we will arrive half an hour before the pitchforks. In fact, their drumbeat as they approach will help to force the President's hand. What, you never saw this movie?

I don't think we need a petition at this point - pretty obvious what the prevailing opinion is and it's near universal. It should be done today.

the President and Regents. If they get enough complaints, they will get involved. But my belief is that average schmucks like us don't have much pull with them. It will take the big-hitter donors to get the coach and AD replaced. Money talks and if threatened with donations being pulled, the Regents will take action - guaranteed.

Maybe the loudest form of protest is an empty stadium for UTL 3. Everyone just sit on your tickets for the game, don't sell them or give them away, and watch as the national attention on an empty stadium tears down the AD.

There was another user on the board that was setting up a Kickstarter account to fund skywriting "Fire Brandon" or something of that sort.
I think using Kickstarter as a form of a petition would work with people donating money for a "Fire Dave Brandon and Others" Fund. At the end of the fundraising, the funds could be donated to charities. The act would be symbolic as well as able to raise money for great causes

Petitions? I haven't started one since the whole night games thing, but I'm in.

Seems to me that a grassroots movement to not attend one home game, leaving the Big House as empty as possible, might get someone's attention in a hurry.
The night game against PSU would be a very good opportunity to play it out on a national stage.

Who is the approrpriate person to write to to voice outrage about Hoke's handling of Morris yesterday? President, regent...? I understand that my letter is unlikely to tip the scales, but I am still a member of the Michigan community and when behavior is this negligent and dangerous, I feel a need to register my disapproval in some way.

I have a great idea.
Everyone that planned to go to the Penn State game still go up and tailgate, but don't go into the game. Or everyone congregate around the stadium but never actually go in. Bring picket signs or something.

This post is retarded For reasons so obvious their not worth explaining. "Let's vote to not let the AD do what the AD is hired to do..." blah blah blah

Maybe the student section will organize (yeah right..I know) flash cards that read "Fire Brandon" with one flip and "Fire Hoke" with another.
Or....maybe we should write to Coke and express our displeasure.
September 28th, 2014 at 5:24 PM ^
is written on federal reserve notes. An empty stadium and no concession revenue will get the university's attention much more than any other single thing the students or a fan can do. The only language this AD (and all modern major programs) understand is money. Hit them where it hurts, and you will see changes made. Everything is else is random noise....

The media has been all over this staff today and even some bad PR for DB.
