Hoke should be fired NOW for the way he handled Morris
I'm almost in tears with my stomach turned inside out. That was the most disgusting sequence I think I've ever seen. It was a coach who didn't have a CLUE and I pray to God Morris is okay.
He should be fired for wins and losses, yes. But he should be fired NOW for that sequence. I don't trust him with the well-being of the players. How can you look a parent in the eye after that?
That was gross.
The kid was hurt POSSESSIONS before he got drilled and almost fell over. THEN Gardner's helmet comes off and he puts Morris back in!? Call timeout, take a penalty, let someone else take a snap, run out there yourself and hope no one notices...but don't put the kid back in!
What the hell just happened? My God, that poor kid.
Football is a violent sport, I get that...injuries happen. But that was sickening.

It certainly gives some perspective to see Morris experience one game's worth of what DG has been going through for two seasons.
September 27th, 2014 at 6:40 PM ^
But in all seriousness, this is criminal.

This is the point I came here to make. It's on Hoke for being oblivious to Morris' situation but it's also on the medical staff for not removing him or his helmet.
September 27th, 2014 at 7:16 PM ^
Concussion screening procedures have to be initiated after the hit, don't they?
And this, by definition, must be done above any input from the coach.
But, yes, Hoke really failed to protect his 'son' as he likes to refer to them as with the media.

We fired Rich Rodriguez for this.
Clap clap "let's go!" compete and challenge.
At least RR didn't endanger his players.
September 27th, 2014 at 7:01 PM ^
What Hoke did was wrong, but Rod did the same with McGuffie. He was clearly concussed a couple times yet he kept going back out there.

Media is going to have a field day with this and Hoke is going to have to come up with a complete thought out answer for once. They won't take his "Well you know" bullshit anymore.
I've never been so embarrassed in my life!
September 27th, 2014 at 7:01 PM ^
The blame will be pushed off one someone else. "The medical staff said he was good to go" or "I didn't know he was hurt." Doubtful he accepts blame on the scale of "Yep, I messed that up."
September 27th, 2014 at 6:54 PM ^
It's the final straw on a bigger issue.
Hoke & Co. are just BEHIND THE TIMES.
Hoke might be a nice guy, a guy you'd love to have a few beers with.
Mattison is a great old-timey guy.
They BOTH clearly LOVE Michigan football and their players.
BUT
They're OLD, their methods are ANTIQUATED.
I absolutely believe these guys L-0-V-E their players as "children" of their own.
But, it's pure incompetence, I can have a girlfriend, or a mother or father, or a best friend, or whoever say they "love" me, and that's great, but if they can't REALLY LOOK AFTER and genuinely "help me", then their love is for naught.
And that's just what it looks like here. Hoke WOULD HAVE walked to Michigan (from California), but he's just not competent. Not willing to CHANGE.
Concussion predispositions and concussion protocols are WELL KNOWN and REQUIRED at this point, in 2014.
The fact that they didn't DO THAT AT ALL....A-T A-L-L, let's me know these guys are NOT UPDATING their skill-sets and understandings, hell they're not even PAYING ATTENTION to the play IN FRONT OF THEM, it seems.
If they truly "cared" about their players ("player's coaches") OR were even able to "modernize" their coaching (win-at-all-costs coaches) to the ever evolving tactics of college football.
Then we wouldn't be this bad (we'd win). OR. We wouldn't be this INCOMPETENT (we'd take care of our players, develop, safety, etc).
And guess what? WE'RE FREAKING BOTH, BAD+INCOMPETENT (we achieve NOTHING ON THE FIELD....NOTHING)
We're NOT "win at all costs" AND we're not "take care of the players/play the game properly i.e. do-the-right-thing".
We are incompetent. Not either "in transition" NOR "playing the game safely".
We're just INCOMPETENT.
The SAVING GRACE of this program is that we at least "TAKE CARE OF OUR PLAYERS".
Hoke's ONE REDEEMING QUALITY.
We clearly DO NOT EVEN DO THAT.
Hoke's incompetent. Hoke's OLD. Hoke is not implementing DYNAMIC COACHING either for FREAKING PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL OR...ORR KEEPING HIS PLAYERS SAFE.
I hate where we are right now. This isn't far from Rich Rod world. And this time, we supposedly "HAVE OUR GUY".
We look like idiots.
(I apologize for my annoying writing, I'm freaking furious. If I would have been in the stadium and witnessed the Morris incident, I would have tryed my best to run onto the field and cause some sort of ruckus to help Morris. Our coaches are FVCKING IDIOTS, and I'm not "that guy" that hates the coaches, I'm the lover, the clapper, the optimist, but these FVCKS, look FVCKING STUPID, I'm ashamed. I didn't thinkI would, but I might not even watch this season, and I'm not "that guy" that spouts off shiit like that. Again, I'm sorry, but Jake Butt this was somewhat cathartic!)

Put a match to it. Time to start over, again...
September 27th, 2014 at 6:46 PM ^
That I just totally made up...
“Coach, why did you put Morris back in when he was clearly hurt?”
“Well… we saw some things that maybe it was just a boo boo.”
“But isn’t that taking a huge risk if he’s your future QB?”
“Well… we wanted to put our kids in a position to win.”
“But wasn’t the game already clearly out of hand? Didn’t the same thing happen with Devin Gardner against Notre Dame?”
“Well... that’s tough to say.”
“What’s tough to say? Didn’t you do the same thing with Gardner?”
“Well… Gardner didn’t start at quarterback for us today.”
“You didn’t answer my question.”
“Well… What’s your question?”

Fat Hoke also put Funchess in danger by putting him back out vs. ND. That injury is now lingering and may risk the start of Funchess NFL career.
If I were Funchess' dad, Id kick fat Hokes ass too.

Entire liveblog agreed.
September 27th, 2014 at 7:09 PM ^
What did the live blog think of Gardner being left in while spitting up blood against Sparty?
September 27th, 2014 at 7:40 PM ^
Seriously? You have been asking this question around.
Let me break it to you. They had nobody last year. The backup was a freshman. They had nobody to play. They still have to play. What were they supposed to do.
This game was a lost cause. They are not going to win. They have to break down another guy?
You know what? You are just trying to pick a fight and justify your point on why we are so bothered about Morris when we didn't bother with DG. May be you are right. But, two wrongs don't make it right. There I said it.
If that is not what you meant, I apologize.
September 27th, 2014 at 7:50 PM ^
No, I'm trying to bring folks down about 12 notches.
It was okay to risk further injury with Devin because we had a chance to win? Really? Or we'd have to play a freshman? So what? If you're concerned about the kids' health first, those things shouldn't matter.
Fact is the Morris thing is just an emtional pile on because we lost. Reverse the score and no one is outraged.
September 27th, 2014 at 8:08 PM ^
Are we seriously comparing a head injury to a foot injury?
I'm genuinely curious because as one of the most vocal (only) Hoke supporters it seems left, I have to know whether or not it's worth listening to a single thing you write.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:52 AM ^
Witness the 2013 MSU game. Devin was wobbly on numerous occasions. Do you remotely compare what happened to Morris to what he went through in that game?
I appreciate the seriousness of concussions but spitting up blood can be very serious as well. Folks are taking the easy way out by drawing this stark line between Shane's possible concussion and anything that ever happened to Devin because their selective memories won't let them ever recall him taking a head to head.
This outrage is an outlet for the frustration of team performance, nothing more. Hell, people are blaming Hoke for Bellomy not keeping track of his helmet.
Of course I have doubts after the last three games. But I wouldn't make a decision until we see how this season plays out. I've seen sicker dogs live.
September 27th, 2014 at 6:56 PM ^
With each week that passes, Hoke is beginning to look like a joke. Utterly incompetent.
September 27th, 2014 at 6:59 PM ^
How the hell didn't Bellomy know where his helmet was? Who the fuck is in charge on the sidelines? Clearly not Hoke. I am done with him - I was going to stand for him until the end of this year, but the bush league/criminal handling of Morris on the sidelines/on the field was the final straw for me. Fuck you Brady
September 27th, 2014 at 7:01 PM ^
Its just awful coaching. He is the back up QB at that point, someone has to make sure he is ready to go in at a moments notice.
September 27th, 2014 at 7:06 PM ^
Now the staff has to keep track of player's helmets? This is on Bellomy, be had his head in his ass.

He put on like THREE DIFFERENT HELMETS TOO.
We look like a freaking frat-bro football team, "oh hell-no, who took my helmet?" "Quick! Give him the D-Lineman's over-sized helmet! Give him the one soaked in Gatorade!"
WTF is going on on the sidelines?

I think it is a perfect example of why you put on a f'ing headset. He probably would have been told about the status of the player. He is such a stubborn idiot.
September 27th, 2014 at 7:16 PM ^
If you can't find a QB, just run two RB and run a wildcat. That needs a coach with a headset and some clue
September 27th, 2014 at 7:17 PM ^
It is because he does not have freakin clue as to what to do or say, so why bother? We just got slaughtered by a program that would drool over having half the talent that M (recruited anyway) has. Michigan is looking a like a place that talent goes to die. Fire Hoke now and do damage control with the recruits. What's worse for recruiting, an uncertain coach situation or a f-ing 2-10 Michigan team?
