Rate your embarrassment level (1-10) by each individual fiasco
The Horror - 9
Toledo '08 -9
Stretchgate - 8
Cokegate - 10
This soft drink promo is the stuff of low A minor league baseball. As much as the stench of The Horror will never fade, stooping to this level to entice fans back to the game this weekend has irretreviably harmed the Block M.
I guess Brandon has succeeded in creating the future - and bad pub is better than no pub at all.

should be embarrassment level 10 for all of those.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:43 PM ^
Can one feel embarrassed when one has stopped caring?
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:09 PM ^
That was embarrassing? More like pathetic. When everyone is trying to bring you down it's inevitable that you will make a mistake eventually.
In comparison to a really bad loss, stretchgate doesn't even register.
September 23rd, 2014 at 2:07 PM ^
exactly. when the national reaction is "lol the ncaa is a joke" vs. "lol michigan is a complete dumpster fire." it doesn't really go under embarrassment.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:09 PM ^
1. I'm not out there coaching or playing.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:45 PM ^
I can't even imagine what it's like to be a senior on this doomed squad.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
You are more embarrassed by this Coke thing than a team who was pre-season ranked #5 with national champonship aspirations losing to a D1AA team, at home? Umm ok.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:18 PM ^
Cokegate is pretty overblown
we have a massive stadium - there isn't a ton of demand
UofM is about Football - if we win games no one cares about stretching or pop
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
But the prices they're charging for the product on the field the past few years is too high. If this team was in the Rose Bowl last year, the place would be packed. But if there's a good chance they'll lose, I'll keep my money and watch the game on TV until it's too depressing to watch.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:52 PM ^
the secondary market is pretty cheap - stub hub is ~$25 v minny
last week it was less than ~$20 on friday
thats pretty cheap to get into the stadium if you actually want to go
Honest Questions: is there any price you would pay?
September 23rd, 2014 at 7:23 PM ^
But I'm one of those people who can have just as good of a time watching on the big screen sitting on the couch with my man food.
September 24th, 2014 at 9:27 AM ^
the secondary market agrees with you and $25 is the starting point on stub-hub
But the home viewing experience is pretty good, both for live sports and movies
The sad thing is, DB is trying to combat this and make the live experience more memorable or enjoyable. I applaud his vision, but I don't really like his execution.
If the team were undefeated, I am guessing the stub-hub floor would be face value.
100k+ seats is an enormous amount
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
Meh, the Coke thing seems like a miscommunication. Losing to App St. is far and away the worst because that showed just how bad the team was. A 3-9 team losing to Toledo really shouldn't surprise anyone.
September 23rd, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
Did it really "show how bad the team was"? That team went 9-4 despite major injuries.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
I feel like we are in the midst of Thread-gate......

that MGoBlog's getting so many hits this week, Brian's going to be able to afford a merry Christmas, and maybe even move out of the basement.

Well, I was in kindergarten when clockgate happened. I cried. So I'd say 10.
Everything else? 10 for the first two, the Freep BS was just disappointing but it turned out to be exactly that. Bullshit.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:59 PM ^
We dont need to know how old you were for every single event, we get it, you are young, i think everyone knows that now.
P.S. I never got the consumation memo....classic stuff...

Unfortunately, but you are one annoying ass kid...
I still didn't get the consumation memo....GOLD!
And come up with your own wack ass gifs/pics next time...you already trtied to blaze me with some other gif and this was suggested to you...

I was 15 for that game and wound up completely sobbing as well. Honestly it's the most upset I've ever been in my entire life over anything.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:16 PM ^
The Horror: 10
Coke-gate: 10
Skywriting: 7
Toledo '08: 4
Stretch-gate: 0
The Horror and this most recent fiasco are the two most embarrassing moments in our football program's history. Skywriting over an in-state rival's stadium, a place where they have routinely humiliated us in recent years, also pretty darn embarrassing.
The other two I don't care about. Or maybe it's just that the embarrassment of the other three is so profound, that I'm numb to anything else now.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:17 PM ^
Stretchgate was embarrassing for the Freep, not for Michigan.
Clockgate was embarrassing for Michigan State.
At least, that's how sane, somewhat informed folks see it. I really don't care what people who don't know anything think.
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:21 PM ^
The Horror - 10
Toledo - 8
Stretchgate - 3
Cokegate - 8
You are leaving out so very many embarassing things that we have had to endure. I want a dang fan endurance badge for living through the past 20 years. We are the butt of all jokes.
In somewhat chronological order: The Horror, The Oregon game, Toledo, 3-9, Practicegate, Groban, Gibbons/Lewan incident, The Hit, the BWW bowl, Skywriting, ND, Utah, the Coke thing.
And those are specific incidents. Pile on top of that our record against rivals, ticket sales, THE B1G!!!!, the headset thing, GERG, the fact that we are now so beat down that we can't even pretend that there is a "Return to Glory" coming.
I mean... I would call Michigan football an abortion, but that wouldn't be fair to the word abortion...
September 23rd, 2014 at 10:06 PM ^
As I'm only now reading this thread for the first time, I was also surprised that none of those many, many embarassments were mentioned by the OP (or anyone else up to this point).
I love Michigan. Always will. But as much as that is true, it's also true that I am genuinely disgusted, disappointed and dismayed by not only those embarassing incidents, but also by the way our entire athletic program has been turned into a slobbering greed monster by those at the top, person(s) who pretend to know what leadership is but don't have a clue when trying to practice it.
As hard as this is to say, I'd rather (in many ways though not all) have a Tom Goss in charge at Michigan than the two clowns that we've suffered through over the last decade and a half. I'm fed up with fools who care more about pimping the University and squeezing every last drop of monetary blood out of the very fans who have long loyally supported Michigan, as the $$$ signs in their eyes blinded them to all the good and people that they now stomp to death while feasting upon the spoils of their greed.
Which brings me to a point I've wanted to make for some time---if it is true that the Board of Regents and others in power are also fed up with Brandon and may possibly be working towards ending his stay, would John Beilein possibly be a viable candidate? I can't think of anyone as well-respected and honorable as Coach Beilein; would he be willing and able to take on the dual role of continuing to coach while leading our athletic department? Bo did something along those lines, being the man at the top while delegating the day-to-day stuff to others. We are in a dark dreary place right now with all that has gone astray in recent years, his might be the hand that gently but firmly guides Michigan Athletics back to the right path.

All are bad! Why rate them?!
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:20 PM ^
At the time, all 10s. With the benefit of some perspective...
The Horror - 10 forever - WTF?
Toledo '08 -7 - we sucked and should never schedule MAC schools- it was inevitable
Stretchgate - 5 - embarassing witch hunt over nothing
Cokegate - 11 - assraping the golden goose to preserve a lie is never a good strategy
FWIW, we lost the 100k actual alive fans in the stadium for the game thing at the Minnesota game in 1988. (And pretty much any other time announced attendance has been less than about 104000.)
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:24 PM ^
If people want to go to games let them -
if more people want to go to games than there are seats - don't give away seats
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:41 PM ^
If they donated tix to veterans or high school teams or some other underserved groups, it would be a PR win. This was a clusterfuck in concept and execution.
September 23rd, 2014 at 1:27 PM ^
it was a marketing move - Coke bought the tix and could do as they please
wasn't really donated
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:24 PM ^
1988 Minnesota was the last time Michigan played a 3:30 November game.....until last year vs Nebraska.
Bo said after that 1988 Minnesota game where it was dark at kickoff, that there would never be another 3:30 November game at Michigan Stadium again.
Announced attendance was 102,171. The stadium capacity at the time was 101,701...
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:30 PM ^
Our Stadium is so very sad looking when there are empty seats. It needs to be filled, even if you think its forced tushy intercourse
I know people pay for their tickets, but when there is excess supply you have to do giveways and silly promos
People are voting with their wallets and not attending the games (stubhub has tix @ $25)
September 23rd, 2014 at 12:37 PM ^
but announced attendance includes 3500-4000 non fans - vendors, press, bands, teams. (Or at least that was the story of UM attendance numbers at the time)
I was at that game. Even the guys on WUOM were remarking on the disconnect between the announced figure and actual observed butts in the seats. Shit weather and playing Minny = MiniTru attendance figures. Beats the current situation.

I know everybody's down, but I would love to see one with the moments you had the most pride in Michigan. Some of the top ones for me:
- Winning the Sugar Bowl in 2011
- Making the title game
- Beilein at the 2014 NBA Draft (refusing to leave)
- Reaching 900 program wins
- Denard breaking the yardage record in 2010
- Beating Notre Dame in 2011
- Mealer walking out before the UConn game

That has to be one of the top 3 experiences of my life as a Michigan fan. I was a senior at UM at the time. My roommates and I started drinking when Trey drained the tying 3, proceeded to get trashed as we won, then went bowling. Solid night.
