Last chance for the B1G
Today is the last chance for the B1G to show a pulse against Power 5 opponents:
- Utah (Pac 12) at Michigan
- Maryland at Syracuse (ACC)

I only care about Michigan.

So which one does not look "Lose-able"?

Miami at Nebraska, at night. Not seeing Miami winning that.

BIG TEN!111!!!

the damage has already been done, the talking heads have moved on to their next target to assure 2 SEC teams in the playoff.

Here's where Massey is at with these with respect to estimated Big Ten chances:
Utah at Michigan - 50% win probability for Michigan
Maryland at Syracuse - 34% win probability for Mayland
Iowa at Pittsburgh - 43% win probability for Iowa
Miami-FL at Nebraska - 63% win probability for Nebraska
Indiana at Missouri - 6% win probability for Indiana

100% probablity of "fire coach" meltdowns if Michigan or Iowa lose.
Also - I think next week it's quite possible Cincinnati upsets Ohio State a home.
When the last time OSU lost two at home or started 2-2? Answer: 2001 they lost 2 at home, 1990 last time they went 2-2.

1 loss, 1 tossup, and 3 narrow wins.

Missouri is an SEC school.

My bad. Definitely caught in the past. It's a Big Ten thing.

Its a fair point. Its not apples to apples though. Boise vs. P5 runner up types is very different from undefeated NE vs. top-5 SEC/B12 team. Also, BCS and Bowl committees may be very different from playoff selection committee -- I certainly hope so.
September 20th, 2014 at 12:39 PM ^
If the other 4 Power 5 conferences go undefeated, an undefeated Big Ten team definitely gets left out this year.
If the SEC champion is a one-loss team and there is no undefeated SEC team, you will hear some serious chatter that the one-loss SEC team should go instead of the undefeated Big Ten team.
September 20th, 2014 at 12:48 PM ^
I don't think that scenario is likely but if it were to play out the SEC would still get in over one of the other conferences. It would get very interesting if everyone in the SEC had atleast 2 losses, then we will see what kind of political pull they really have.

I heard after this weekend they're going to take the B1G out back and shoot them, old yeller style.

Michigan, Maryland, and Nebraska...the other two are losses. NFW in hell Indiana beats Missouri.

Oh my, Sparty's Special K follows the opening kickoff with that goofy key-changed version of Hava Nagilah they play at the Joe.
BIG TEN!

I know they can score and I hope they pull off a big upset. That would really help the BIG. Also Nebraska needs to win too.

"...this one time" feels like it needs a back story. Why wouldn't you always/often root for IN football when they're not playing UM?

I clicked on the title thinking, "the chance to prove the B1G isn't the weakest of the P5 is waaay gone, already" but you're right. It is a chance to "show a pulse." So, we've got that going for us, which is meh.

Otherwise, the Hoke Haters and Michigan Bashers are going to be out of control by Sunday. A loss, and Hoke will need to circle the wagons around Schembechler Hall.

Hoke's a great guy that has been promoted to the level of his incompetence. Not hate, reality.

If Indiana pulls off a win over Missouri that would be a Huge statement. I like Michigan, Maryland, Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri.
September 20th, 2014 at 1:06 PM ^
That being said, I'd rather the b10 suck and us win it, than the b10 be great and us not win it just so the conference gets a playoff team.
September 20th, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
...it's not going to move the needle.
The nation is going to beat and bitch about the B1G until we start competing in the major matchups and top 10 matchups.
All the B1G teams can win today and no one will care. People east of the Mississippi don't even know Utah is in the Pac 12 and Nebraska is ranked and Miami starts a true freshman QB.
We're going to have to wait until bowl season. Even then, conferences will say "well our teams are in the tournament, so you're playing your best vs. our 2nd or 3rd best."
September 20th, 2014 at 1:37 PM ^
Michigan needs a win today. Also, it would be great if the other conference teams pulled off the win. We could certainly use the W's as a conference to gain some respect back nationally.

Win your bowl games. Win your big OOC games. That's the only way perception will change.

That third timeout was absolutely crucial for Iowa to prepare to run between the tackles on 1st and goal.
