You know the announcers are bad when you have to mute them during the highlights. Sounds like bad constipation.
Thanks for the video WH.

I tried to get the radio audio to replace the execrable Mowins/Galloway combo when I made the parkinggod highlights, but I encountered technical difficulties.

Great job, WD - thanks! It seemed like a lot of App State players in the second level were fleeing from our OL.

Nice, very cool. Thanks for the video!

Thanks. Also noted that on ASU's first TD (looked to me in real time that he was bobbling it on the way out), Beth Mowins said as the reply was being shown on the big screen something like "even the Michigan fans were oohing over that catch."
Um, no Beth -- sounded to me like they were questioning whether he had control as he went out. But thanks for playing.
Sheesh.

There was ZERO chance people thought that was one hell of a catch.

I mean, it kinda was.

so michigan fans cant ooh over the other teams catch in a blowout? lol
i think she was just gtrying to add to th broadcast and give the app. st fans watching at home something to cheer for. like, that is her job. calm down big dog

But that's not what people were "oooh-ing" about, at all. In the stadium, people were very much questioning the refs calls in this game. It may not have come through on tv, but that's why the audible "ooooh".

Anyone else still surprised that App State even agreed to schedule this game?
I know they got a payout (around $850,000), but it was not a program-changing amount of money. They could have gotten similar $ from other top programs that need to fill up 7 home games. Why go back to Michigan and do anything to deliberately make the first time look like a fluke?
They could have gone forever undefeated against the winningest program of all time. Why dilute their biggest win of all time for no good reason? They will always have the win, but some of the mystique is gone.
We get mad at our AD for selling us out, but their AD really sold them out.

They wanted the spotlight on their program, considering the move to D-1.
August 31st, 2014 at 9:56 PM ^
Seems they could have gotten that by playing any number of top 25 programs, all of whom need bodybags for a seventh home game.
I'm not sure how good their exposure was on Saturday. They just looked like a small nothing-special school. All the mystique is gone . . . they have the origianl win, but you don't feel like they could ever do it again. Yet there was a time were you were just not 100% sure.
August 31st, 2014 at 10:44 PM ^
The horror was re-played ad nauseam. I doubt ASU could have gotten more exposure in any other venue.

And now it's done. The mystique is gone. What do they really have to show for it?
If I'm an App State fan, I'd rather have the unblemished win than the "attention" of getting pasted in a rematch that removes any doubt that the first win was a one-time flash in the pan thing that will never happen again.
Several of the App State players from the first game have said this very thing.

thats true. it does kinda ruin the way they played michigan once and had the biggest upset ever. they will still always have that game, but it does kinda take away from their win..and id be lying if i didnt say it makes me feel better about that loss...at least a little bit
August 31st, 2014 at 10:17 PM ^
I don't feel better about the loss, but I do like the symmetry of us taking care of business and closing the book on that chapter. It already feels like a grainy historical event that happened three coaching staffs ago. It has lost any relevancy to today.
On the flip side, i feel a little sad for their fans. I work with a guy that went to App State. He said that until their win over Michigan, he was ashamed to say that he went to a place called "Appalachian State". But he's not anymore. Because of that win and the attention it got. And he's not even a football fan or even a sports fan. It does not matter, that win put that program on the map. It is more than a win in a football game, it is now part of the very DNA of the university itself.
To take some of the mystique away from the win for no compelling reason just seems unnecessary.

There is nothing to be ashamed of for attending any university, college, technical school, online school. Only snobs judge others on where they got their education.

the next time Galloway and Mowins do a Michigan game take a shot every time one of them says "off to the races".

Gosh a lot of those screens will be graded as 'DO' i.e. Dead On. The first screen to Norfleet was right in stride

Kudos, Devotee, great highlights. With all the obligatory caveats, I'll go out on a limb and say that I haven't seen a Wolverine offense this crisp since I don't know when. The gut test comes this Saturday, obviously, but if I'm an Irish fan, or coach, I'm not happy about the prospect. At its best, and there was a lot of best on Sunday, this team looks like it knows exactly what it's doing.

Did they review the 4th & 4 play by App State on their 2nd TD drive? It didn't look like the guy made it to my eyes but there was no replay in the highlights. That looked like a VERY generous spot on first viewing.
September 1st, 2014 at 11:03 AM ^
I thought they got a generous spot on their 3rd and 14 late in the game too. It felt like the refs just wanted to get the game over with and didn't want to fuss too much.

In the end, I like that Michigan welcomed Appalachian State to the FBS. It was kind of fitting.
