Gardner Makes Davey O'Brien Award Watch List
Devin Gardner on the Davey O'Brien Award watch list for the nation's top QB.

39 players total on the list, including 5 from the Big Ten:
Gardner (Michigan)
Connor Cook (MSU)
Braxton Miller (OSU)
Christian Hackenberg (PSU)
Joel Stave (Wisconsin)
But Shane Morris is supposed to be the starter.

...so around 1/3 of the QBs in the country, if you consider only starters at this point? Not bad, but I don't think anyone is terribly surprised that DG is considered in that group. If he's a finalist of say 10 folks, then I think we're talking.
Well, as Brian said in UV, "It is policy around here to ignore preseason watch lists for major awards because the last time I looked at one I was on there". I think my name is on there, too.
It is nothing terribly exciting, but at least it signals, to me anyway, that we are getting close to actual football.
As is common practice, take with a grain of salt. But how did JOEL STAVE get on the list? I have a hard time believing he's even in the top half of D-1 QBs.
I think in the B1G, its a two horse race...DG and Miller, imo. I'm sure there's other guys out there who can throw and who can run, but those two seem to be the best who can do both very well. Like someone else said, Go Offensive Line. That'll make the difference at the end of the year.
The B1G Championship and Rose Bowl MVP is back as well. Not really sure why he's been dismissed.
It's probably because he's (arguably?) the third-best QB of the bunch, isn't a running threat, and plays for a run-heavy team.
Hoke can adopt the sparty meme, "Where's the (running) threat?"
Does the job laid out by his offensive coordinator and puts up big numbers in big games while doing so. Winners win awards. Being able to run won only about Vince Young the award. And Devin Gardner isn't even close to Vince Young.
GO OFFENSIVE LINE!!!
But serious, if we get anything that resembles a functional offensive line, Devin should be a strong candidate to win it.
In the spirit of the World Cup this year I'll get behind GOL. Go Offensive Line.
I think it will be straight.
We'll probably go undefeated now.
We already were going undefeated. This is old news. I predicted DG to finish 5th in Heisman voting yesterday.
If we go undefeated he will finish higher than 5th.
60 teams on the list

Half the roster made a watchlist except for anyone on the OL. But next year is when all the awards belong to us.
