MBB class of 2016 offer day open thread
Not expecting any Hellos today, but you never know. Seems like out of the likely offerees, Towns could be a possibility today.
Umhoops has a breakdown of likely and possible offers going out today.

You'll probably just have to wait about 6 to 8 weeks until the news trickles out. The info definitely won't be posted in this here open thread or in other dedicated threads.
Pony Express guy carrying the block M banner
wrong. the kids will tell us today on twitter just like in foorbal. dude your wrong alot
I'm ready!!
Or wait 5-6 hours and see the reported offers in this thread.
Tweets of recruits or guys like Sam Webb, and I'm sure Umhoops will.have updates. I'm sure they will get posted here, as well, by any of the vast mgoblogger community.
Thornton, Towns, Leaf, Teske, Battle, Murray, Winston, Goodin. Some others to watch: Guy, Gordon, Moyer, & Benson.
On Friday's recruiting roundup (podcast; skip to 11:02), Sam Webb gave an off-the-top-of-his-head rundown of who he thinks will get offers: Derryck Thornton Jr., Cassius Winston, Jamal Murray, T.J. Leaf, and Tyus Battle.
He also mentioned Caleb Swanigan, the 6-8 five-star center out of Fort Wayne. Although it was reported that Swanigan is reclassifying to 2015, that may not have actually happened yet. So Sam believes that Beilein & Co. have still been treating him like a 2016 and that they'll now offer him.
He is already listed as 2015 on all the recruiting sites.
If he hasn't submitted the paperwork necessary for the reclassification to be official, then Beilein is still going to consider him a 2016.
Hmm, no Seth Towns?
As I said, this was an off-the-top-of-the-head kind of thing, so it's possible Sam just forgot to mention Towns. He nearly forgot about Tyus Battle.
No surprise. The anticipation is on which other point guards, if any, are offered. I suspect they hold out for a couple weeks before offering others.

2016 five-star guard Tyus Battle tells me that he has gotten the call and #Michigan has offered

I think that's the first time I've heard of Jon Teske
6-11 center from Medina, Ohio, unranked, with an offer from Dayton and Ohio State and interest from Indiana and Purdue. Here's a bit of video:
appears to be just about the only video of him playing available on the internet.

Wait...what's that you say? We're talking about John Teske the basketball recruit? I see. Well then. Carry on.
Cassius Winston has been offered. 5 star from U-D Jesuit.
Seth Towns has been offerred.
Derryck Thornton Jr. (Rivals confirmation, Scout confirmation and reaction)
Tyus Battle (247 confirmation)
Jon Teske (Rivals confirmation)
Cassius Winston (Scout confirmation)
Seth Towns (confirmed via his twitter)
TJ Leaf (expected to happen 6pm Pacific, 9pm Eastern)
Very impressive list of offers. The staff looks like they are interested in getting at least 4 if not 5 committments in the class. PG (Thornton, Winston), SG (Battle), Wings (Leaf, Towns), and Big (Teske). Could see another complete class a la 2012 that can play on the floor all at once.
EDIT: The only other prospect I think I personally really want them to offer is SG Jamal Murray. Quentin Goodin is another PG prospect who may be in line for an offer down the line in the summer.
that I'm too wild about the Teske offer. Although it probably means he's due to blow up now. Isn't that how things work when Beilein extends an offer?
Beilein uber alles.
But he seems to be another case of "big man who suffered injury and is recovering"
Recently added an OSU offer. Considering he's an Ohio native, that may just mean they are making the local effort, but I think it's a worthwhile offer. We're not in on any high profile big targets like we are with guards and wings. Good chance that Doyle, Wilson, and possibly Donnal are still around to play the 5 that season, so no need for immediate impact.

and that's kind of my point here, nobody does. Why rush him an offer?
If Beilein offered him this early, then he knows Teske and his ability pretty well. If he's about to blow up, wouldn't you want to be one of the first guys to offer?
If Ohio State has already offered, and Purdue and Indiana are showing interest, then clearly the competition knows who he is. Who cares if the services and fans don't know who he is? Maybe the kid won't be that good, but the fact that the services don't know who he is doesn't really mean anything at this point in the process.
meaning that I have seen very very little game film about him. I have definitely heard his name on pay sites and on UMHoops.com repeatedly. I've gotten the impression that the staff want another big in 2015/2016, but they aren't looking for someone as blue chip as McGary ended up being. I would be happy with a legit 6-10, possible 6-11 big man who seems to have better length than either Donnal or Doyle.
and it very well may turn out just fine. I just don't get the hurry to offer him on the first day. With two years before the class gets on campus, why not try and work on someone like Omari Spellman or Caleb Swanigan, both of which should have higher ceilings.
I have gotten the impression with this coaching staff that their message of players who are "Breaking down the doors to play at Michigan" is more truth than coachspeak. They may really feel that Teske is a much more likely commit than Swanigan and Spellman. Therefore, if he commits, it gives them more time in the 2016 class to work on their other prospects. Not saying that I agree with that process on every level, but just indicating what I believe to be the possible reasoning.
I have no problem being wrong here (which is so far off nobody's going to remember either way), but I don't get why people can't even fathom questioning something Beilein does. I don't think I expressed any vitriol over the move, just said I wasn't wild about it. Beilein's been wrong before and I'm just saying I think Teske might be more Vogrich/Brundidge than Caris LeVert. Having blind faith in something is generally a bad idea. (Last part of this isn't directed specifically at you, DingoBlue)
I definitely recognize the issue with blind faith in this case. Brundidge was a miss, and I definitely have some issue with John Beilein's plans at end of half and end of game situations (no fouling @ Wisconsin 2013 with fouls to give rings a bell). I actually was not expecting Teske to get an offer, but his was the name that most pops up for big men in 2016 that Michigan has shown interest in. I think they definitely could have waited on the offer, but I'm certainly intrigued by the possibility of him committing and its implications.
I don't know, he looks fluid, and there aren't too many prospects out there at 6'11 (or a legit 6'10, more likely). I really like the way he gathers the ball after the two blocks in his video and he's already looking up to break. If the coaches want him after seeing him at camp, I'm on board.
and we can make this determination in 36 seconds?
