Possible serious injury for Willie Cauley-Stein.....
I don't think there is any way Cauley-Stein plays. An ankle injury bad enough to put you out of the whole game is not getting better 40 hours later. I read several reports on this and a few had Cauley-Stein saying he heard the ankle "pop."
If we can get Randle or Johnson in foul trouble, UK's interior won't be the land of the trees people are saying it is.
I could go for giving Randle the Maymon treatment and getting him out of the game as much as possible. Should be a good game and hope we can put up another banner!
Tracy Wolfson of CBS said that she heard his ankle pop from the sideline actually, and with everything going on down there, I would think that if you can hear that, it definitely does not bode well for Cauley-Stein. Hate to see people possibly end their own tournamenent run like that, especially when their team is still in it. I know John Calipari was quoted by SI as saying, "It's not a good ankle injury, let's put it that way."

Sam Ponder or Allie LaForce in both football and basketball!

including minor injuries that are played through.
Keep in mind, he went down pretty early in the game and UK still managed to handle a very very good Louisville team and pull out the W. Don't think losing him will have quite the impact we would hope for. Certainly doesn't help them any, but they're plenty deep enough to roll without him. Should be a good game either way. Can't wait.
not only what eska said but adding to that the rest of the team will want to pick up their game. Those injuries can be a double edged sword.
And in anticipation of the "but Kevin aware..." response. That was a whole other level of injury and Louisville was a TEAM, not a collection of one and fines.

That "team" just lost to the collection of one and dones
but if he is out, I won't miss him

I would argue that Michigan and Sparty have had similar paths in terms of difficulty. THey faced a one-seed, but we faced a team that beat that one seed by 35 points.

Funny thing is, MSU might be the healthiest team in the tournament right now. Michigan, Kentucky, Arizona, UConn - there's a lot of teams missing guys at the moment.
right out of the game at the end with out the big guy. KY has exceptional young talent and did a great job rallying back to win. So him being out wasn't that huge of an issue for them. But I get your point.
Michigan will have to get back to playing error free ball. The last half was atrocious on how many errors they made. The team needs to take care of the ball better and play smart if they want to beat those lubers from KY.
Since we're missing our one player who probably would have been a first round pick (or one of two since Stauskas may have worked his way in there), I don't feel sorry for any other team that suffers an injury. It sucks for Cauley-Stein himself, of course, but I hope UK doesn't use it as an excuse if they go down at some point.
I look forward to Kentucky using it an excuse after the game Sunday.
Kentucky may not use it as an excuse but the announcers might talk about nothing else all game.
They will still be favored, no doubt about it. Media darlings.
I can't wait to hear Izzo chime in about this.
Go right at Randle...and get his strap his behind to the bench in foul trouble.

about this thread is the number of people who are waiting to hear the MSU reaction to the Kentucky injury. Who cares what Sparty thinks?
Feel bad for the kid, hope his ankle is OK, and hope we can send him (and his teammates) home to recover.
..."popped" ankles several times playing basketball. Never an achilles injury. Always torn ligaments with lots of swelling and pain. It can take weeks to heal depending on the degree of damage.

Agreed. The last time I heard my ankle pop, I was on crutches for a few days and gimpy for a week. I would be very surprised if Cauley-Stein can play in an Elite 8 game two days later.

I dont care if he plays or not I'm ready to watch this team win another game that no one picks them in. no respect

You never cheer someone getting injured but I won't be upset if he can't play.
Kentucky scares me. A really talented team that's finally coming together. I can't figure how they're only an 8 seed.
(Also, just saw Izzo mentioning injuries again in his postgame presser. lol)

Did you hear anyone say they need him out of the game for us to win? No. We're saying we've had our share of injury problems and we're still an Elite 8 team just like you guys. No one is wishing bad things upon your player at all. However, if you have to go through a tough game without one of your star players....welcome to the club.

Injuries are part of the game. Of cousre it is still winning. We've been without arguably our best post player pretty much all season. By your logic, we're practically undefeated.

Cauley, great player. The team came together and we got it done without him. Using him as an excuse due to a loss to wittle mich program on Sunday? Nah, The Cats are coming! We have a better coach, better players and a better program all together. Mich sucks! Go Cats!!!

If not for a toothless NCAA, Calipari would not even be a coach
“We’ve gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking ...we’ve got a coach at Kentucky who put two schools on probation and he’s still coaching. I really don’t understand that.”
