Go Corn vs Wisky open thread
DOOO!
The last two weeks have been close to perfection.
You go ahead and storm that court, Nebraska.
And I'm pretty happy about a Wisconsin lost too.
His demeanor is like a young Jim Beilein.
the enthusiastic joy on the face of Miles as Bo Ryan shook his hand. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning!
Bo Ryan, on the other hand, looked like...UGGHH!!...Bo Ryan.
1.Michigan 15-3

Winning the Big Ten regular season by 3 games!!!
With the exception of the always magnificant Michigan Wolverines, the Big Ten really at itself alive this year. No doormats, two elite teams (and one still took six losses).
If Nebraska lost they would have been the 5-seed and OSU would've been the 4. I'd rather face OSU than Nebraska right now
The #4 and #5/#12 winner play each other on Friday.
Nebraska could win the whole damn BTT right now...
We all like Tim Miles because he has yet to affect UM's season. It is easy to like a guy who beats everyone else and not us. ;) If for example Nebraska takes out UM in the BTT or next year splits we will be less fanciful with Mr. Miles. I do appreciate his personality even if one days he beats us.
On a serious note - yes he is a very good coach and I truly think he won't be in Nebraska more than 13 months.
Tim Miles seems like the type of guy to stay at Nebraska and build. Midwest guy, new facilities, a good young core, etc
It will be interesting to see if he does stay and build or goes to a more established program. I could see a Big East or Big 12 type program coming hard for him in a year, especially if Petteway stays and they have another top 4 finish next year. Nebraska seems to have invested a lot in their program in terms of resources.
paragraph, but I will disagree with your assertion that Miles will leave Nebraska any time soon. They have a great new arena and fantastic practice facility and a motherload of $$$ flowing in to their athletic program. What's to not like there for Miles? Why chase a bigger contract elsewhere and the pressure cooker that comes with it when there's no pressure to win every year in Lincoln, just overwhelming joy when you do win there?
I'd be surprised... no, very surprised, to see him leave in anything less than 4 years.
Well I don't know his personality and some guys like the pressure cooker. He might have hit the jackpot with Petteway and knows that, and sometimes you can ride one player (esp in b-ball) to the next level of coaching. If that is not his belief he might stay and build.
A lot will have to do with what openings come free in the next few years. If Gores goes after Izzo maybe he would go to MSU and he'd be suddenly a lot less likable ;)
I dont know how difficult it will or will not be to attract players to Nebraska in the long term, maybe not so difficult since in bball you need less players than football. Anyhow the guy from Wichita State is probably first in line from that region to get a sniff.
Wiscy and Virginia losses this weekend helped. I dont see much diff in a 2 v 3 seed (same first round opponents and face each other in sweet 16) but in terms of playing for location it should help us secure Milwaukee (Wiscy will probably be there as well - 2 teams can be in the same "pod" from diff regions)
Tellme why it would be HUGE! vs a #3 in say the East! Thanks!
i would much rather face a potential #1 wichita in indy than arizona in LA.
Think about this for a second:
WE COULD HAVE LOST 3 MORE BIG TEN GAMES AND STILL SHARED THE BIG TEN TITLE.
Go Blue!!!!
+1,000 Insightful.
I'm so happy for Nebraksa. I'm not sure why I've jumped on their bandwagon as much as I have but it feels good watching them succeed.
I'd parallel Neb in bball to Northwestern in football as to why they are likable. A non traditional power who beats some of our rivals but doesnt often actually beat us (I am excluding some of that RR era) ;) And a more likable coach than NWs. Until Nebraska begins to hurt us directly it will be like NW football... "cute" and admirable as they do "less with more".
p.s. pretty amazing we beat that team by 29 in AA.
The move to the B1G has not been a kind one for their Football team. They've lost their TX recruiting ground and have not had much to replace it except Pelini's rusty contacts in OH.
But in hoops, the move has been phenomenal for their program and its recruiting.
Well, for one thing, Nebraska fans are generally the polar opposite of OSU fans, but this year they also did us some huge favors by knocking off Sparty at their place after we lost to Wisconsin, and they also beat Wisconsin today and how can you not love any team that beats Bo Ryan?
gives the Coach of the Year award to Miles. Beilein took the league by 3 games after losing 2 guys to the NBA and one All American to injury. I can't see how Beilein loses but I would say Miles is deserving any other year.
I'd love to see Beilein get the Coach of the Year award, but I bet that Beilein would be equally happy to see Miles get it.
Also, damn - that UW/UN game had a marriage proposal beforehand from one of the Husker's seniors.
