Moore Could be a Better Recruiter (St. Brown Andecdote)
Everyone is understandably nervous about how well Moore will do compared to Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a once-in-a-30-year type of coaching talent. But he's not perfect.
Exhibit A - Amon Ra St. Brown recruiting story about Harbaugh awkwardly staring at him and not speaking for two minutes: https://fb.watch/pU_fN_IsLd/
Harbaugh is weirdo. Some people don't like weirdos. Moore has an opportunity to be a much better recruiter than Harbaugh.

Well he needs to retain some coaches first. Very slow right now
January 30th, 2024 at 1:51 PM ^
Slow on the communications front.
Think of this like you think of a duck. Things look slow on the surface, but he's paddling like hell under the water.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:00 PM ^
Loll that made me chuckle
January 30th, 2024 at 2:22 PM ^
if you're paddling like hell and not getting anywhere, then that's a dead duck
January 30th, 2024 at 2:28 PM ^
Is it made of wood?

Paddling like hell and not getting anywhere = Iowa's offense.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:04 PM ^
We wouldn't accuse them of paddling, would we?
January 30th, 2024 at 6:29 PM ^
Dude, everyone knows that dead ducks don’t paddle.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:56 PM ^
I prefer to think of a low maintenance/high production chicken.

Ray Tanter reference...
January 30th, 2024 at 1:36 PM ^
Counterpoint: some people do like weirdos.
Exhibit A: my wife
January 30th, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
Harbaugh is not a weirdo. He is super high functioning Autistic. And that is something cool. People on the autistic spectrum are more capable than society realizes.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:02 PM ^
For people over 40, those were just the "weird" kids in school. There was no diagnosis.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:06 PM ^
That's not really correct - it wasn't a diagnosis until 1980, and so on that basis it could have been a diagnosis applied to "kids" with birth dates going as far back as 1963. Now, of course, as a diagnosis it had an acceptance curve, and so most kids in that 1963-1985(ish) period weren't commonly diagnosed, but the point is that they could have been.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:03 PM ^
People on the autistic spectrum are more capable than society realizes.
Quite often more capable than most members of society, if we are being real.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:01 PM ^
He's similar to Cumberbatch's portrayal of Sherlock, IMO- hyper focused on his one thing and unconcerned with almost everything else.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:46 PM ^
I agree with your sentiments about not selling short people who are on the autism spectrum, but I'm not sure it makes sense to provide armchair diagnoses of people whose images are only filtered through media.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:58 PM ^
I'm just curious, has Harbaugh been diagnosed as being on the Autism spectrum or is that just guess work?
January 30th, 2024 at 4:00 PM ^
I’m waiting for Balas to let us know.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:36 PM ^
Well that accounts for one player. Enough people seem to have liked him to have put a National Championship Trophy in the display case. Moore has a blank page upon which to write his own story. Time will tell.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:47 PM ^
People do seem to forget sometimes that the objective of all this is to win games on the field.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:24 PM ^
According to another 5-star recruit (blanking on the name) Harbaugh refused to take off his cleats on the family's hardwood floors and scratched them up. He said his family was shocked at how weird and rude Harbaugh was.
We did not gain that recruit's commitment, to the shock of absolutely no one.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:37 PM ^
Everyone is nervous? I’m not nervous. We just won the national title.
and it’s a game. It’s not like if they don’t win my kids are gonna get put in the gulag or I’m gonna lose my job <nervously looks over shoulder for Hotel Putin>
January 30th, 2024 at 2:50 PM ^
It’s not like if they don’t win my kids are gonna get put in the gulag ...
"Hello, FOX? I got a great new idea for a game show!"
January 30th, 2024 at 3:32 PM ^
Yep, people need to go back to concentrating on other things in the world other than the football team. I get it, the High we all got from that was intoxicating, but time to put down the needle.
Not a damn thing we can do about any of this. Let things settle out. Harbaugh is working on his staff, so are other NFL teams. Lots of people still contemplating options so it may take time to get everything settled. I'm pretty sure it's a month plus before spring ball.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:38 PM ^
1. Why post this? This isn’t news or information.
2. *May, not could.
“Could” is ambiguous in your sentence—can be taken as a slight, like “You could write more clearly than you did.”
January 30th, 2024 at 1:41 PM ^
I 100% interpreted the headline as someone coming to take shots at Moore's recruiting.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:44 PM ^
I was wondering if this guy Andecdote was the patron saint of recruiting
January 30th, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
1. Because it is basketball season and have you seen our basketball team?
2. I don't think you're correct about may vs. could. "May" is far more ambiguous and connotes permission vs. ability.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:37 PM ^
Let’s be honest, there hasn’t been much useful information on this board since we won the natty. Surprising, since a lot has happened and presumably a lot of coaches have to be replaced.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:41 PM ^
I read the title as Moore could be a better recruiter than he is, implying he's not a good recruiter.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:44 PM ^
I read it like, “I’m Ron Burgundy?“
January 30th, 2024 at 1:42 PM ^
That's just Harbaugh's secret technique to weed out guys that wouldn't fit in with the culture
January 30th, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
I understand why everyone says "weirdo", but for fucks' sake can we please use the correct term and say that Harbaugh is Autistic? It's unbelievably obvious and as an autistic person myself I just despise the way that his clearly autistic traits are being given negative labels
January 30th, 2024 at 1:47 PM ^
stop!
January 30th, 2024 at 2:01 PM ^
Yes, seriously. It's highly likely (whether he wants to admit it, or even actually knows) and the way that people talk about this topic is honestly incredibly offensive (and revealing). It needs to stop.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:03 PM ^
No, it doesn't.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:36 PM ^
You're seriously going to argue FOR continuing to use offensive and derogatory language? That's the angle you're going for?
January 30th, 2024 at 4:14 PM ^
Damn you got confirmation in person from Harbaugh that Hatters comments hurt his feelings because they were … how did you put it?
offensive and derogatory
January 30th, 2024 at 6:29 PM ^
The point of my post about language wasn't about Harbaugh, but rather about some here talk about the ASD community in an offensive and derogatory manner. It's not ok.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:04 PM ^
Why needs to stop are knuckleheads that think they can diagnose people over the Internet.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:07 PM ^
Diagnosing someone over the internet is wildly different than the decades of interviews, press conferences, anecdotes, etc about him. He fits the DSM5 criteria to a T
January 30th, 2024 at 4:30 PM ^
He can fit the criteria to a T and it would still be problematic that you (I will assume non licensed clinician) is trying to diagnose him be you are on the spectrum as you have stated. It doesn't work like that.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:00 PM ^
It actually does. That's the problem with the way the current diagnostic evaluations work. In general it's done by people who are not autistic trying to describe internal processes by the way they present externally. The people doing the diagnosing (unless they are autistic themselves), are not able to understand the various different ways autistic people can mask and accommodate their autism bc they've never had to do that. We actually have a huge problem with large swaths of people being undiagnosed or misdiagnosed still (especially if they are not cis white straight men)
January 30th, 2024 at 3:15 PM ^
I don't know if he is Austistic or not, but I don't think anyone here knows either. I think Autistic label has too broad of a stroke.
It doesn't really matter. Harbaugh has been extremely successful as a player and coach. He coaches and runs his teams his way. Being called different or weird probably doesn't matter to him at all as he also seems to have had success in his personal life too with his family and friends.
Just think it's not good form to try to diagnose someone from the few interactions we see.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:23 PM ^
Are you autistic? If not, you don't get to decide what is or isn't "too broad". The autistic experience is a very unique thing and I can guarantee that Harbaugh is autistic
January 30th, 2024 at 4:46 PM ^
thanks doc
January 30th, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
I don't think this can be blamed on Warde. I could be wrong.
