Just commit already, sheesh. Everybody already knows what the decision is.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:46 PM ^
I know I'm gonna get beat up for this.
BU has a strong arm and seems to be a winner but I waited till this week to watch the Belleville v Southfield A&T game.
Isiah Marshall way outplayed him, it wasn't even close, that was the difference in the game, Kansas is getting a real good one, unbelievably.
Now Beasley was Beastly, really glad we're getting him.
Good luck to Bryce wherever he decides to go but his arm motion is not great, sorry but just telling it like I saw it and I've been following recruiting since 1975.
On that last drive, there were 47 seconds and a TO left and he almost threw 2 INT's before throwing one on the 3rd play and all 3 passes were poorly thrown with really bad pocket presence and decision making.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:21 PM ^
Eh we will be fine. He has good tools and needs some polish. But we are also getting a really good qb in 2025 class in Carter, Mr Florida as a junior.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:48 PM ^
Important to note that Underwood is only a high school junior. He has an entire camp circuit to go through where he will get coached up a bit, I’m sure he’ll be working with a private instructor, and he has an entire high school season to go through before even arriving on campus.
He’ll be much more polished by the time he gets to college. Might be a bit unfair to compare him to seniors. He’s rated extremely high because he has a ton of potential and physical tools. Don’t mistake that for him being a finished product halfway through his junior year of high school.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:03 PM ^
Don't worry Don, he's committing at 5:30 today.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:31 PM ^
It sucks to see so many QBs in Michigan go elsewhere especially one like Brice who seems to be a generational QB. I can’t put into words though how valuable it is to have a QB like JJ and the experience Jadyn Davis has gotten being at these playoff games. I think that will provide huge dividends moving forward with him.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:41 PM ^
Besides losing out on Moore, Jadyn Davis and Carter Smith are pretty damn good consolation prizes to CJ Carr and Bryce Underwood. Still sucks to lose out on 3 straight in state 5* QBs but that's just our luck. Highly ranked in-state guys for whatever reason almost always are never Michigan fans and always looking to leave the state
January 6th, 2024 at 5:08 PM ^
Reasons AFAICS:
- Moore: $. Easy. There's also the business of Michigan being run-oriented.
- Underwood: $. Easy. There's also the business of Michigan being run-oriented.
- Carr: Let additional speculation commence. Does he not want the distraction of being a "Carr" at Michigan? Fond of Notre Dame in general? Afraid of competition with Jadyn Davis? Grandfather not fond of Harbaugh? (Kidding ...)
January 6th, 2024 at 5:23 PM ^
One of those has already switched teams and I bet Bryce will within the next 2 years. No use in worrying about not getting them now. If they end up being really good, work from now on getting them on the rebound!
January 6th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
I second this. Nobody can predict the future, but the one thing we know is that the portal is going to be incredibly active for the foreseeable future.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
Highly ranked in-state guys for whatever reason almost always are never Michigan fans and always looking to leave the state
I think this is objectively not true. For example, in the 247 composite for the state of Michigan for their respective years, Will Johnson was #1 and Donovan Edwards and Braiden McGregor were #2. Sure, we've missed on some, but the way this is written is an exaggeration.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:33 PM ^
Considering he won’t be signing anytime soon, any verbal to another school can easily change by December.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:33 PM ^
Meh, Hook ‘Em.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:33 PM ^
Can't resist the sweaty charms of ol' Purple Face himself, Brian "Mankiller" Kelly.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:40 PM ^
Yeah.. I want to play for - and learn from - this guy.
Just check out his moves… they are beyond comprehension.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:41 PM ^
Only 💰could make playing for this guy palpable.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:17 PM ^
I would do a lot of ethical things, hard work, and a lot of easy things for a huge bag of cash. I would never dance in a video with that man with those lights and that rotating platform. Not for as much NIL as that young man got.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:34 PM ^
Hoping this is the ultimate troll job to purple face. But if not, that’s ok. Good luck!
January 6th, 2024 at 4:38 PM ^
It's clear that LSU is really backing up the Brinks truck for this class. If they get Underwood, they'll have the #1 QB, RB, and WR in the country committed in 2025. With Underwood's dad's control of this recruitment, I don't think he was ever coming here with the current state of our NIL.
Carter Smith, you're the guy
January 6th, 2024 at 4:45 PM ^
That defense, though. That’s where they really need to stock up.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:53 PM ^
Throwing the bag at the Mizzou DC to try and accomplish that
January 6th, 2024 at 4:39 PM ^
I would prefer Carter Smith. Underwood is scared to compete against him, its so obvious.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:26 PM ^
Maybe time will come when the CFB goes combine mode like the NFL?
January 6th, 2024 at 4:41 PM ^
Ok cool, Go Bluex!
At this point, especially if Michigan wins, it’s hard to deny what the staff is able to do and identify, and to turn this down means either you don’t feel it’s a good fit, whether it’s a culture fit or style fit. But it’s not hurting Michigan, good luck at LSU. Ask Dante how UCLA was, or Nelson at USC. At this point, I don’t care, coaching and integrity matter more than starz.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:42 PM ^
Bryce, not Brice
January 6th, 2024 at 4:42 PM ^
He won't commit to Michigan if he joins the portal in a year or two. He will go somewhere where they will pay him to commit. The culture of this program doesn't fit any players who are all about themselves. I am not saying he is making the wrong choice if he commits to LSU, then possibly goes into the portal and commits to another program with NIL pay to play money, but if that is what he is after, then Michigan is not a fit for him. Smith is a very good quarterback in the 2025 class, too. He committed to Michigan, not NIL.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:43 PM ^
It is what it is. Saw this a long time ago. Funny thing is you read what he claims to want and Michigan literally checks every box. Do these guys realize that JJ and Blake are 2 of the highest paid guys? Let your play do the talking. Maybe it changes in a few years. We will see. Too bad for Bryce. He’s going to lose 2 games a year and not win with Kelly.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:44 PM ^
Has this not been a forgone conclusion for a few months now?
January 6th, 2024 at 5:10 PM ^
It has. Post of this type reek of stealthy concern trolling.
January 6th, 2024 at 4:56 PM ^
I never thought for 1 minute that kid was going to Michigan. Good luck to him.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:01 PM ^
Whatever. We pay for seniors, not freshman
January 6th, 2024 at 5:11 PM ^
I wonder where things stand in regard to transparency. I would be interested to see NIL package deals made public like every single other professional league in the world. No one would argue CFB is anything but a professional league (at major universities at least) at this point.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:32 PM ^
The big difference is the pay to play/pay to come to our school payment or maybe a better term 'signing bonus'.. It sounds like UM doesn't do that because that is still 'illegal' and not considered NIL.
UM might not be the leaders in the NIL department but I'm guessing for the guys who are playing and the guys who are the 'dudes' their NIL is pretty good.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:56 PM ^
Are NIL deals made public in other sports leagues? Seems like that is a personal choice made by the corporations and the athletes. We don’t know how much they make unless they choose to divulge that information
January 6th, 2024 at 5:11 PM ^
Least surprising news of the recruiting cycle. I've heard all the arguments about money and stats and sunshine and pretty southern women and the cheating scandal, but after the last 3 seasons, I'll never understand how so many of these kids shun Michigan.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:13 PM ^
It was always LSU. Have fun with you're famleighh. Hope your commit twitter video with Kelley dancing on a rotating stage with lights is as cringey as possible. That Brinks truck is hard to turn down.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:19 PM ^
We all know how this story ends.
January 6th, 2024 at 5:31 PM ^
Huh, its <checks watch> 5:30pm already. What will happen?
January 6th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
We are playing for a National Title on Monday - who care where he is going?
January 6th, 2024 at 5:57 PM ^
We got our Florida “ Gatorade player of the year “ already commited ! We are good . To win that in that state as a JR is all we need to know .
January 6th, 2024 at 5:59 PM ^
Portal? Hell no. Michigan is just too stupid to pay players. Players who fit Michigan and those that get paid are not mutually exclusive.
January 6th, 2024 at 6:06 PM ^
Committing to someone who killed a kid? Couldn't be me.
January 6th, 2024 at 6:06 PM ^
Never believed he was coming here. Hope he enjoys the money he so desperately wanted. Don't really give a shit if he ends up happy or face first in a pile of cow manure.
January 6th, 2024 at 6:07 PM ^
He just officially comitted to LSU.
January 6th, 2024 at 6:07 PM ^
Would love to have him but more interested in guys that will buy-in and contribute to the culture that has been built since 2021. That is something that becomes a lasting advantage, especially when facing adversity, and can’t be replicated easily. We are more than the sum of our parts, which other teams like TAMU and LSU are not despite their supposed talent advantage.
Plus, now that Carter Smith has been crowned Florida‘s Gatorade POY, I have more confidence that he will be the real deal. With due respect to Underwood, the competition in Michigan isn’t that good and we have fallen head over heals for the local hero several times because they are locally hyped (i.e. Drew Henson, Shane Morris) and not necessarily because their recruiting rankings are validated against good competition. Underwood may be that good but Smith doesn’t seem like a big step down if any.
January 6th, 2024 at 7:31 PM ^
It’s funny how we used to think that if we just won more we’d recruit better….
January 6th, 2024 at 9:34 PM ^
It's a lot funnier that despite recruiting in the #15 range and making the final 4 for 4 consecutive years so many fans continue to whine about recruiting.
Clearly, this staff knows how to recruit the correct 3 and 4 star kids and develop them. In this regard, I recommend that everyone who is distressed about recruiting take a listen to what Vance Bedford said about coaching and player development in Webb's recent (I believe it was just posted today-and it's way at the end) review of the Michigan defense and his determination of how they should play Washington. (Borges is there too.) As he states most bluntly and emphatically, there are good coaches and bad coaches even at the highest levels. There are "my way or the highway" coaches that demand that the players play as he wants them to-regardless of their skillset and there are coaches who employ the talents of the players and alter the schemes to fit the best talent. And as he states "Guess who wins?". He goes so far as to share that he would ask his individual players how they preferred to play in specific situations and adapt the scheme as best he could to fit as many skill-sets as possible. This is what winning coaches do-this is where Michigan is at.
