Michigan and Minnesota Rosters: A Map
I've done similar things like this before so I thought it might be fun to look at the hometowns of Minnesota players compared to Michigan Players.
HERE IT IS in map form. You can turn on/off the Minnesota/Michigan layers as you desire.
A few things I noticed:
1. Chicago, Milwaukee, Twin Cities = the vast majority of their players.
2. Their punter, Mark Crawford, is from Perth and he's 28 and he has 2 years of eligibility remaining.
3. Their recruiting footprint matches up pretty well (except for Milwaukee) with the natural range of the plains pocket gopher (pic from Wikipedia).
Perhaps you'll notice some other things since maps are fun.

The plains… pocket gopher?! I assume they are the bane of plains teachers' existence:
Hey! Keep your hands off of your pocket gopher and pay attention in class!

Good shit! I really like how you can click on the marker to get the player name, position, height, weight, year, etc. (just fyi, the height field must be linked up with the birthday).
Looks like we're evenly matched in Canada (1 player each), but Michigan has the decided advantage on the left and right coasts.

Michigan's roster did that and Excel just assumes 6-6 is June 6 and I wasn't patient enough to change them all.

The other U-M has 3, don't they? Winnipeg, Canadian Sault Ste Marie, and Toronto-ish, no?

Huh, I was not aware (or at least did remember) that Darius Taylor went to Walled Lake Western. As did a QB from Sault Ste Marie, Ont. Somehow.

How the hell could you forget that?

Interesting, we're really recruiting the east coast hard

I remember not being too upset that Darius Taylor chose Minnesota at the time, but he has played extremely well so far this season (currently injured).

Michigan has zero players from Minnesota. That's my observation. Is that going to happen with any other regular season opponent this year?

No players from Nevada (we miss you, Cade - but you probably miss us more).
Surprisingly (to me), only one player from Indiana.

Aha! Missed that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Looks just like the Reddit Risk map from this past summer....for one team.

Minnesota has exactly one player from west of Fort Worth, TX (ish - didn't actually look at the longitudes on that one, and I'm not counting the dude from Australia). That's surprising.
