OT: Super Bowl : What's on your menu?
I always appreciate hearing what people here are making for the big game. For me it's an opportunity to cook for a small crowd (this year only 7). Our menu includes ancho chile chili, made with a pretty intense ancho chile paste; cornbread; and chicken taquitos with crema. Dessert is still tbd. Does anyone even have room for dessert? So what's on your menu for Sunday?

I make chicken parm sliders and a shandy punch usually. Real easy and folks love them. Get one of those 48 pack hawaiian rolls and good lemonade.

No Caprese salad, Toby?
February 10th, 2023 at 11:22 PM ^
Actually I'm glad you mentioned the Hawaiian rolls, I have a good Philly cheese steak recipe for those made from frozen beef sheets.

Hawaiian roll chicken parm? Gross. Ciabatta or focaccia “Toby” lol

Big tray of nachos, maybe a beer. The wife is out of town, kid will be in bed, I will also be in bed by halftime
February 10th, 2023 at 9:37 PM ^
I envy you. We’ve got our second child at home, four weeks old, so even if I’m in bed by halftime, you can bet I’ll probably be up for bottle time at least once after the game. Maybe twice.
An uninterrupted night’s sleep is maybe the best gift anyone can give. But our first started sleeping through the night by ten weeks so I’m hoping I can just power through this next month and a half to two months and see him giving us eight hour stretches on the other side.
February 10th, 2023 at 10:06 PM ^
Best of luck! Our second just turned 2 months, and is sleeping 12 hours most nights (most, not all lol).
Similar experience with out first. Had her out of the primary/mini crib and into the nursery within 3 months (maybe less, I can't recall 2 years ago haha).

Godspeed my friend
February 11th, 2023 at 12:38 AM ^
Nachos are amazing, but better in small batches rather than big tray (don’t like the cheese coagulated while I work my way through)

Coincidentally scheduled a trip to Cancun a while ago (as a Lions fan we don't really block out SB) so whatever the resort is serving and I hope they have the game on! When I'm stateside my wife makes a pretty good crockpot buffalo chicken dip and little au jus sliders. Assuming I don't just spring for a middle eastern tray first.
February 10th, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
oof double post.
February 10th, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
Kinda want to cook, but still working off a hand surgery and the weather has been pure suck for firing the smoker. Pretty sure my wood is wet too.
If I was cooking, I’d probably get a belly of bacon uncut and make bacon burnt ends out of it. Meat Church has a smoked jalapeño bacon dip recipe I make quite a bit too.
OOH- I have corned beef in the freezer, I should make pastrami; guess we’re having reubens…
February 10th, 2023 at 9:39 PM ^
Love pastrami and starting with a pre-brined corned beef is a nice easy hack. Probably highest in result:effort out there.
February 10th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
I love doing pastrami on the smoker. Gotta soak that corned beef to decrease the salt content or you'll be drinking water like a mad dog
February 10th, 2023 at 10:52 PM ^
I'm not an expert, but believe there is medication available for wet wood.

February 10th, 2023 at 8:29 PM ^
Stupid mail must have lost my invite; 4:30 sounds good
February 10th, 2023 at 10:25 PM ^
I got a new phone. You must have sent it to the old number. I just need your address
February 10th, 2023 at 11:36 PM ^
You forgot the Kung Pao. I like mine spicy, btw.
February 11th, 2023 at 10:44 AM ^
I had Kung Pao cauliflower last night. It was "different."
February 11th, 2023 at 7:46 AM ^
Did you get the Lo Mein from Lee Ho Fook’s? I love their stuff
February 11th, 2023 at 9:07 AM ^
I sometimes get hair in my Lo Mein when I order from Lee Ho's. Not a fan...

A group of 8 of us rented a bay at X Golf. Catered buffet from Pit Stop BBQ in Grand Rapids and 5 hours of golfing while the game is one.

Murder?
February 10th, 2023 at 8:30 PM ^
Wow. Some of you really get into it! It’s usually one of the few times a year I get to have just my wife and 3 boys altogether with no other distractions. We hang out with friends almost too much so I 100% enjoy this. We have a homemade pizza bar and then I cook them on the Kamado Joe (with a pizza stone). Some turn out great and some turn out like ass but that’s all part of the fun. So that with a crockpot dip of some sort and other snacks that we let each of the kids pick.
All that said, we are visiting my brother in law in Denver (1st time visiting Den) this weekend while the kids are with my parents. It will be fun but I will certainly miss our SB shenanigans.
February 10th, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
i don't know that we've ever made it to dinner on super bowl sunday. dear wife and daughters cook up all sorts of heavy hors d' oeuvres and so we are all too full.
getting the menu at chef wendyk5's place would be special.

Putting together some Philly Cheesesteaks and some KC BBQ. Somehow will find room for desert.
February 10th, 2023 at 10:57 PM ^
I have some fake beef and I might try some Philly (Phony?) cheesesteaks and see how they come out. Made a veggie chili with it last week and it was great (fake meat has come a long way). Maybe I'll make some sweet potato fries in the air fryer too. I actually have very little interest in the game haha.
February 11th, 2023 at 11:48 AM ^
Same. Thought the blending of the two teams' respective foods would be more common answer....
February 10th, 2023 at 8:49 PM ^
Going to the game so.....stadium food?
Went to the stadium for the Michigan bowl game and tried flamin hot cheeto pretzel....would not recommend.
February 10th, 2023 at 8:51 PM ^
we’re going to throw some chicken thighs and mac-n-cheese on the smoker (gravity 980) and polish them with homemade bbq sauce! pigs in a blanket for the kids. can’t wait
February 10th, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
I'll bring the following to the Super Bowl party I'm attending:
- brie & raspberry pastries
- Zingerman's brownies
- a bottle of wine
February 10th, 2023 at 9:00 PM ^
Haven’t made wings in a while, so probably go this route. Super easy method without a fryer. Two bags of Meijer frozen wings on a really large cookie sheet at 440 for 40 minutes, drain some of the excess “water”, flip over and bake for another 30 - 40 minutes while checking the color/crispness along the way. Shake in a container with whatever buffalo sauce ya got and good to go.
February 10th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
Wings here also. Fried in the turkey fryer and then tossed in Buffalo sauce mixed with lemon pepper. Hand cut french fries. Chips and dip.
Superbowl isn't a huge thing in the family. It's just another football game if Michigan isn't playing. Everyone watches for the commercials and half time show.
February 10th, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
Wife works. I'm watching 3 kids(1 is 3 y old), 2 puppies(3 months old). I'll look at my phone once a quarter, cooking something easy.
February 11th, 2023 at 12:45 AM ^
So Kraft Mac n cheese, uncrustables and pudding?
February 10th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
Meatballs, old family recipe queso dip, veggie tray and sandwiches
February 10th, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
10lbs of wings. Maybe some other fried goodies. It’s just wife and 2 teen daughters so if we go crazy it just gets wasted.
February 11th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
10 lbs wings will be chowed by 4 people? Nice.
February 10th, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
Sounds great Wendy!
Smoking a Chimayo Chile rubbed pork shoulder for the main course. Still trying to figure out the rest.
February 10th, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
A few years ago I started planning my menu around the teams. So this year I’m doing sourdough soft pretzels and Philly cheesesteaks for the Eagles and KC style smoked spare ribs for the chiefs.
Haven’t quite decided on the sauce for the ribs. I’m usually a dry rub only guy but feel like I need to sauce for KC style. Might make my own or doctor up a store bought sauce.
TBD on beer choices. Probably will deviate from the Philly/KC choices and just pick a local NY beer like a Captain Lawrence Kolsch but will be a last min decision
Edit: should add that we used to go to a big party but once Covid started we did it at home and kind of liked not going anywhere so sticking with it. So as much as I want to cook more than the above (and my wife burns toast so it’s all me), it’s already a ton of food for two adults and two kids.
February 11th, 2023 at 9:17 AM ^
Must be nice to have a wife that can cook. Mine burns water...
February 11th, 2023 at 10:45 AM ^
Mine can cook. She just chooses not to.
February 11th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
50/50 if my wife even knows how to turn on the stove
February 10th, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
I make beer cheese dip every year, and this year we’ll probably do a hot dog / brat / Italian sausage bar. I’ll cook everything up and my wife will make up the condiments/fixins, and everyone can just go to town from there. May have a beer, two tops, and then I’m capping it from there.
Not sure I’ll even stay up for the whole game. We just had our second child four weeks ago and we’ve been turning in by 8:30 every night. Can’t imagine I’ll be lasting much longer than that.
February 10th, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
Cheesesteak or BBQ?
February 10th, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
I'd go with cheesesteak, but only if you are using Cheese Whiz. Yeah, I said it.
