Nobody answered the question yet tho…

I like the interplay between everyone. That said, once in a while, I do wish they would better manage how they take turns.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:37 PM ^
I imagine that getting that balance is hard to do. I've been listening to the Eye on College Basketball podcast for almost 10 years now and it's been an interesting evolution. Gary Parrish is a radio guy who is used to doing a solo show, so he can talk for 10 minutes straight and not seem to repeat himself. For a while Matt Norlander would talk super fast whenever he got the chance because I assume he felt like he might never get to talk again. But after podcasting 1-3 times a week for 6+ years, they have found a good rhythm. I don't envy trying to figure that out.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
I have great admiration for announcer teams where they have this worked out. Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt are pretty good about making the interplay smooth.
One of the things young people coming into that business have to learn, no doubt, is how to form concise statements and not run-on; and how to know when to step in or step out.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
I'd say that's a skill that's important in any business. A few years ago I was at a conference where we did an exercise where we had to talk about some topic (don't remember what) and we got 60 seconds. Then we had to do it again in 30 seconds, then again in 15 seconds, then again in 5. It was a tough, but very helpful exercise.

Seth makes good points and provides good analysis but sometimes he can ramble and get repetitive. Brian gets straight to the point and sometimes says too little. Somewhere in the middle between would be ideal but I suppose they compliment each other.
Typo: Complement, not compliment!
December 8th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
They compliment each other?
"Very well said, Seth. "
"Excellent point, Brian. "
December 8th, 2022 at 3:13 PM ^
Haven't heard them compliment each other much, but maybe they complement each other.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:22 PM ^
What. How have I gone my whole life not knowing those are different words.
December 8th, 2022 at 5:12 PM ^
Same, and I consider myself proficient with the English language. Shit.
December 8th, 2022 at 6:49 PM ^
You are very much not alone. Others that people always mess up, driving me bonkers are rein vs. reign and dominant vs. dominate.
December 9th, 2022 at 7:59 AM ^
"dominant vs. dominate"
If it's showing up related to college football - that may be a really old school USENET newsgroup trolling thing... started back at the start of Eternal September.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:53 PM ^
Hey, OP: the above is what you should've said instead of being a dick about it.
December 8th, 2022 at 5:59 PM ^
Sharik is back!
December 8th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
Dude, they could barely get Brian to talk about football for like 2 years. Seth does sometimes ramble but I don't know what OP is referring to since I haven't listened yet.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
I remember those days. 2 minutes of football talk after the Ohio State game
Brian: "ok can we talk about the basketball team now?"
December 8th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
I like to give Seth some good-natured crap from time to time, but I'm out on this thread. Seth basically kept this site running through COVID. He can talk when he wants.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:53 PM ^
Agree. And his "technical" side of football tends to be spot on. I watched the video podcast where he and one of the mgoblog sponsors broke down a few key plays in the OSU game (with slow-mo video) and it was very insightful.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:59 PM ^
Logged in to upvote. This is so true. I can’t imagine where Brian or this blog would be without Seth. That being said, I usually listen to the roundtable post multiple times, I can’t get enough.
December 8th, 2022 at 5:13 PM ^
Word.
This place doesn't work without either of the two, really.
December 8th, 2022 at 5:18 PM ^
Seth does basically run the show at this point.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:11 PM ^
Jeez... I thought my post was bad
December 8th, 2022 at 3:22 PM ^
You were correct. :) But this post is worse.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
Lol. Touche
December 8th, 2022 at 8:34 PM ^
Nah, it was good. But I flipped you off anyway!
December 8th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
My take is the show today missed Sam. Ira's not quite as experienced at being the MC, and so the guys are probably not as sure when and how much to chime in. From having been in similar (not identical) situations, you're actually trying to fill time, and the burden is to speak up and provide content.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:28 PM ^
Ira is like the Micro Machines guy when he talks. And doesn't seem to stop if no one else stops him. Seems like a great guy but he's a tough listen sometimes
December 8th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
Related: I have tremendous respect for people who are good at facilitating meetings. The good ones have the knack of keeping someone from dominating the conversation; of staying on agenda and moving things along; and of soliciting input from those who might otherwise stay quiet. In my 35+ years in corporate America I saw some bad ones, some good ones, and a very few great ones. The great ones were marvels to watch in action.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:55 PM ^
In Ira's defense, I get the sense he is juggling 20 balls at the same time during a show. You can really tell he is multi-tasking when the podcast is on "commercial" but you still hear the crew talk off-air.
I have seen Ira speak at Alumni events and he is better in that scenario.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
You can always tell when Seth is dying to jump in.
Seth is a feature, not a bug, but sometimes you have to step away from the radio if you're not in right fame of mind to handle a roundtable.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:16 PM ^
Seems thread-worthy
December 8th, 2022 at 3:16 PM ^
I sure wouldn't mind if blueinohio stopped posting threads like this.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:16 PM ^
Just making up for all the episodes where Brian and Ace would talk over Seth any time he tried to make a point.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:09 PM ^
I quit listening in those days. That was so unbearable.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
I really miss the Brian - Ace interplay. I listen to The Bucket Problem -- it's OK, but not as good as the MgoPod. I like Seth and Brian and Dave and Alex, Still, I absolutely fell in love with Mgo during the 2016 run, primarily because of Ace and Brian on the podcast.
December 8th, 2022 at 4:31 PM ^
I had to stop listening to the podcast with how much Ace would straight up shit on Seth for no reason. Utterly unbearable and it would happen nearly every time he spoke. The people complaining in this thread about Brian being dismissive towards Seth have no clue how bad it got a couple years ago lmao.
December 8th, 2022 at 6:52 PM ^
I was going to say the same thing
December 9th, 2022 at 1:43 AM ^
Ace bent over backwards to always agree with Brian, whereas Seth brings his own conclusions to the conversation.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Quality shitpost, OP.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
JFC.
Can you imagine this place if we were losing games?
December 8th, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
don’t have to imagine.
i was here through RR, Hoke, and Covid years
December 8th, 2022 at 6:57 PM ^
(Readers from the RR era get a 1,000 yard stare)
I've seen some stuff, man. Bad stuff. Stuff you can't unsee.
December 8th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
Do you ever stop posting stupid posts?
December 8th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
Seth is the best part of this site and single-handedly did three people’s jobs over the last two years. He rules. That is all.
also, his podcast content is super incisive and really complements Brian.
December 8th, 2022 at 6:53 PM ^
My compliments for using complements completely competently.
December 9th, 2022 at 9:28 AM ^
We found Seth's mom's burner account!
December 8th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
You should at least be glad Ira was not hosting.
Oh wait...
December 8th, 2022 at 3:22 PM ^
sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't
December 8th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
You mean does Seth ever stop laughing at all of his own comments??
