I haven't seen this information anywhere. Dan Lanning has his team in the top 10 and obviously has a bunch of great recruits coming in to solidify his position. He isn't from Alabama and didn't go to any name school eliminating some of the pull coaches feel to go "home." Why would he leave Oregon to coach at Auburn and have to play Saban and Smart every year? It seems like the Auburn job is a two-horse race between Deion Sanders and Hugh Freeze.

Why would he leave Oregon to coach at Auburn and have to play Saban and Smart every year?

Because the Pac-12 is about to collapse in on itself and he doesn't want to be coaching a team in an irrelevant conference?  Maybe this becomes moot if Oregon comes along with UCLA and USC in joining the Big Ten, but I can see a hot coaching prospect in a middling conference acquiring a wandering eye.

This argument has merit when comparing the Pac 12 to the Big Ten and SEC but it won't be an apples to oranges comparison once the new playoff format begins. There will be 12 playoff slots. The Pac 12 is getting at least one. Oregon will be the class of the Pac 12 once UCLA and USC leave. Lanning is looking at a bunch of 10 plus win seasons and multiple playoff invites over the next decade.

Its two fold, The current OC/QB coach is an alum at ASU, They are looking at him for HC next year. Lanning is a midwest guy who mainly has coached in the SEC, SEC is not going anywhere as opposed to the PAC. Auburn might be down but you can still recruit auburn better than oregon. I don't think coaches worry about the conference they are going to anymore. BK just left ND for a harder job at LSU. If you think you can win you think you can win anywhere.

Lanning has no roots in the Pacific Northwest. He was born in Missouri, and spent the prior 7 seasons coaching in the south, with stints at Sam Houston St., Alabama, Memphis, and Georgia. He might decide to stay and make his mark in Oregon, but it's not at all far-fetched that he'd want to return to the SEC.

Whether that will have any impact on Moore's decision is a different question.

From what I can tell, UM doesn’t have a QB commit for Dante’s class.   Alabama has the #10 AND #11 QB’s from that class listed a “Hard Commit”?!?

I know we have strong 2024 QB vibes and JJ is certainly staying put. But, this all seems so odd.

Any dark corner of the internet about what happened with 2023 QB situation (Jim’s NFL flirtation doesn’t seem enough for this cluster) Why it can’t be fixed?  The juicer the rumor the better!

Insane asylums are not a thing. We house our crazy with the unfortunate on the street. A similar myth is the lower class recruit. These 5 star athletes come with an inbound private qb coach and solid middle class problems.

I have read the books, but no one understands the current landscape because it is the wild west.

Recruiting no longer makes any sense to me.  If I were him I would go to Oregon... They have deep money bags and from what we have been told, his whole family is set.

Did Oregon cool on him?

Was he impressed by MSU tunnel fighting?

Is he using this as leverage against Oregon?

Whatever it is, it is in bad taste.

I am not suggesting Moore would be making a good choice in doing so, I am just saying that is the only plausible reason to reconsider Oregon. If I am Moore I stay the hell away from Staee for too many reasons to count. As was said in an earlier thread, if he wants to look around there are teams that make way more sense than that steaming pile of inferiority complex.

Maybe Dante likes the 'fighting spirit' of MSU, maybe the poster is a click-bait whore, or maybe Oregon has soured on him.  None of this is out of the realm of possibility.  Personally, I could care less, as a shiney new QB playing behind MSU's woeful OL doesn't frighten me much.

From what I gather on Twitter, that guy who CB'd him to MSU is one of those who throws out wild CBs to get subscriptions, then changes it in the last hour to keep his prediction score high. I wouldn't take that seriously.

I guess it could happen if something happened with Oregon or the checks didn't clear but it would be pretty crazy for a guy to want to go to MSU over the dozens of better programs out there who would also want him if he skipped out of Oregon.

At this point Moore is pretty clearly not going to Michigan so where he winds up elsewhere is sort of just an interesting side-note.

I have put my Crystal BALLS in for Dante Moore to Ms. U with a confidence level of 10, until further notice.

With that being said it's subject to change before he signs.  I have a 100% rate on my Crystal BALLS.

Saw someone on a random message board that Lanning was talking to Auburn. Don't know if that's true or not but if he left and Oregon stays in the 2nd class conference PAC-whatever I would look around if I were Dante as well.

'Talking' is a very generic way of describing it that could mean anything.

Auburn will have a list of potential hires, and it's not unreasonable that Lanning would be on that list.  Someone representing Auburn calls him to gauge his interest.  So technically they're talking, even if the conversation is very short.

Maybe Lanning wants a raise for himself and/or his assistants.  He has a longer conversation to put pressure on Oregon even if he really isn't serious.  Not like we haven't seen that before.

The Auburn stuff is intriguing but the list of people interested in that job is pretty long and I've heard elsewhere that while Lanning's name has come up the new Auburn AD wants someone with a bit more experience running a program precisely because Auburn is such a madhouse you need someone with gravitas and a plan.  Lanning has done well at Oregon but it's been 1 year.  I guess if you strike out on a bunch of guys you make the call but heck, Deion has a better track record of consistent success and program building at Jackson St. and I'd consider him a longshot.

I think there is better chance that he over heard somebody “state” that Dante was flipping to “Michigan” but let them have their fun……it’s what little bros do best!

This is all hypothetical, but if he wants to go to MSU that’s his business. And if he still wants to make that choice, after how their season has gone down and especially after last week‘s events went down, then I’m not sure he would’ve ever wanted to be at Michigan for a reason that he and Harbaugh mutually agreed on. So there may have never been a fit.

And if he wants to play behind THAT OL, well then as the southern folk say, bless your heart, Dante.
