Chris Solari first hand account of the assault
Apologies if you have tunnel fatigue but I thought this was interesting as this is the first time that we have had an eyewitness say what they saw. It certainly does not sound very good for the MSU boys. Worth noting that it might be McBurrows who Harbaugh mentioned as possibly having a broken nose since Grose punched him in the face. Also not a great look that an MSU staffer was calling the refs a bunch of bitches.

Freep. Yuck. Here's hoping for felony convictions.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
IDK, the writing wasn't great but I'm not sure it warrants criminal charges.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
LOL I obviously meant for Sparty. Although I do like that interpretation. Pretty harsh. 🤣

Just having a little fun on a slow Tuesday.

Sometimes a little levity is a really good thing.
November 1st, 2022 at 7:11 PM ^
Freep articles are a felonious assault on the senses.....
November 1st, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
I don't know how much this adds to the video--he's mostly just describing what we saw there. But I'm sure it was a terrifying place to be.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
I think the biggest thing that it adds is an eye witness who knows they were ganging up and kicking and punching a player who was down on the floor. I have seen an infinite amount of posts that claim these players were just removing McBurrows from their locker room. Which was false anyway because the door he got thrown through was not their locker room, as they continued to walk down the hall afterwards. Some made it sound like McBurrows tried to charge into their locker room and those players just removed him. Nope, it was a gangland stomping.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
Yeah, that's true. It's interesting that he doesn't mention any horrible thing that the Michigan players said or did. Not that that would matter at all, or would in any way justify what happened. But it's still interesting that he doesn't appear to have heard or seen anything, from where he was standing.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:21 PM ^
And an eyewitness from the MSU beat. Solari isn't a total bootlicker like Couch is, but he's not mincing words here and I appreciate that.
Separately: the Detroit News' Bob Wojnowski ran the headline "Call the Spartans' brutal attack what it is - cowardly."
My takeaway is that the media is (rightly) moving away from the "scuffle" language we saw earlier in the weekend. They're calling it what it is with greater clarity, and that will hopefully put more pressure on the MSU administration and Big Ten to have some actual accountability.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
As an aside -- but important if you're making judgements based on headlines -- reporters don't write their own headlines. Editors write the headline.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
Fair enough, but I highly doubt that Wojo's column (no I haven't read it) is super sympathetic to MSU with that headline. It probably at least captures the spirit of the content.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
It was Solari who first tweeted out and called it a "scuffle" to begin with. So yeah
November 1st, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
I was actually told on this website on Sunday that I'm no better than RCMB for assuming the player on the ground, beneath the camera view, was getting punched and kicked. That sounds equitable. Hoping I'm now better than RCMB.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
The MSU slappies calling out Mars, Harbaugh, and everyone else insinuating they do not understand the law. I really hope someone at MSU understands what’s coming …. Cause RCMB does not.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
Why do you go to their piece of shit website?
Fuck what those clowns think
November 1st, 2022 at 12:39 PM ^
Ugh. An RCMB link? It’s your funeral; possibly a Bolivian funeral.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:36 PM ^
I gave you an upvote to offset some of the Negs.
I personally spend a fair amount of time on tRCMB (NEVER EVER post) as their delusion and obsession is usually funny to me and some of the Michigan centric OT stuff is interesting to an out-of-stater. ----
That said I am appalled at the overall level of hatred and idiocy over there since Saturday..... sort of like a Lion on a Safari... you know what it is capable of but don't truly appreciate it until you see it ripping apart a gazelle.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Thank Christ those cops were there......
Honestly I'm surprised no one got shot
November 1st, 2022 at 1:02 PM ^
We as a fanbase just ridiculed a Michigan player for stereotyping and hate speech then you go run off at the mouth doing the same thing.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:06 PM ^
I'm going to need you to send me your PayPal account information. I'm going to send you some money so you can buy a dictionary and look up what the fuck hate speech actually is.
Nevermind it's not worth my time. Yeah this is hate speech. I hate the police I hate Michigan State and I absolutely hate stupid people.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:34 PM ^
Must be hard hating yourself.
/dad joke
November 1st, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Actually that's fair
Im stupid in a lot of different ways. I'm angry, I rush to judgement. I think that The Wire is a terrible show.
Anytime I talk about stupid people I'm almost always lumping myself into that group
November 1st, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
I finally found somebody. Yes, yes. The Wire sucked.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:37 PM ^
I’m sorry to whoever hurt you. I hope you seek the help you need.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:44 PM ^
You sir can chortle my balls
November 1st, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
I'm a little underwhelmed by the state police officer just kind of standing there resting his hand on a sparty player's shoulder while someone gets beaten by 6 or 7 guys. I would think that the "protect" part of "serve and protect" would warrant some sort of action in this situation.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
A member of the MSU staff calling the refs "bitches" adds some perspective on their culture.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
I'm very curious to know if this is common by staffers against the refs. There are a number of stadium volunteers on this blog; Does anyone know from personal experience or colleagues if this happens a lot, ever? From fans 100% sure, but off the field after the game directly to the refs?
November 1st, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
I was amazed to read that. But look at which program we're talking about here I guess. I doubt very much a staff member at Michigan would say that to a ref, or most others. However it's consistent with a program culture where there is no accountability for poor behavior.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:39 PM ^
Reading that I took an opposite opinion as the guy seems to make try and make things grey wherever he could right down to calling it a scuffle in the title. It seems like he wants to blame the setting and the security more so than state and it’s “leadership”
November 1st, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
I agree. He only name drops players already suspended. He literally doesn’t mention anyone else at all. And his reference that a security guard stood by makes it seem like he’s trying to convince us Harbaugh’s extra security didn’t work because ya know, it’s the tunnel!
November 1st, 2022 at 12:44 PM ^
Good lord is that article all wind-up and no pitch. It's 800 words of "there was some kind of exciting thing happening behind me but I didn't see anything and when it did spill over my phone stopped working and also here are other links to better videos where it looks bad for MSU so sorta don't ask too many questions". Oh also he threw in something about the two UM guys skipping into the tunnel because you gotta throw in the "did you see what they were wearing" comment to cue the partisans.
I get that "sports" and "journalism" are words that barely know of each other's existence at the Freep but between this, the Sabin article, and everything else the Detroit papers trying to both-sides this thing are just showing their asses.
I am beyond done with this issue because both sides are pretty entrenched in their positions, and much like some other things that have happened in US society semi-recently there's a lot of video evidence supporting one framing and a whole lotta alternative reality supporting the other and it's not worth arguing anymore. I suspect there will be some lawsuits, some additional punishments, and a vocal minority of Spartan fans who are going to spend the next 12 months talking about Mike Morris "choking" Walker and some random guy touching Tucker's head (ignoring the fact that guy was immediately kicked out and banned from the stadium).
November 1st, 2022 at 12:49 PM ^
Am I the only one who never heard one word or saw one single thing about Mike Morris choking Walker until yesterday?!? (3pm eastern, Mon Oct 31 2022).
was this actually a story? I had to go Google searching to even figure out what they were talking about.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
You are not. I saw the replay for the first time yesterday. I had to watch several times to see what they were talking about, because I expected something with the hands. It was more of a chokehold, and Walker definitely did seem affected immediately afterwards. I would have liked to have seen an opposite angle; was it intentional or accidental? It started out as a tackle, and then there was another player in the way of the video for long enough that I couldn't see if he went out of his way to squeeze.
So, it was either (a) the vaunted Michigan Blue Wall that they talk about; (b) they're nationally irrelevant, and most of us were angry and/or despondent after that game; or (c) it wasn't really a story.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
It was mentioned a bit last year; Seth tweeted about it and I remember thinking "that doesn't really look like an intentional choke but I can see how it could hurt a guy". But absolutely it's become this huge issue with MSU fans a year later and any mention of far more egregious examples (such as Gholston on Denard) is simply living in the past.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
I mean, it's not related to last year, so this doesn't matter. Whataboutism and what not.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
I still don't know what you are referring too with Morris and Walker.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Actually, he even gets the skipping part wrong. McBurroughs was skipping (he also hopped around the MSU players to join Green and high fives a fan) and Green was calmly walking into the tunnel, like he always does, not seeming to interact with anyone.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
Also, your daily reminder that Rainer Sabin sucks:
November 1st, 2022 at 12:50 PM ^
I don’t like that “journalist” but I don’t know about his background did he go to state? He seems very biased in his prose.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
Dude came from Alabama. I don't know if he always railed on the HC of the flagship program in that state, but that definitely seems to be his schtick here.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
He is trying to be the next Drew Sharp.
November 1st, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
What kind of name is Rainer? Is that a pen name?
November 1st, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
To be fair, his first nom de plume idea was Everest Swinney, but someone else already claimed that.
November 1st, 2022 at 2:04 PM ^
It’s Rainier not Rainer.
November 1st, 2022 at 12:49 PM ^
Sounds like a good witness for Tom Mars to interview
November 1st, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
Yea, well, who hasn't called the refs a bunch of bitches at one point or another? The same cannot be said of punching someone in the face

That was a waste of digital ink. I read the whole thing expecting some amazing payoff but instead I wasted 90 seconds of my life.
