Would you be in favor of alcohol sales at Michigan Stadium?

PSU just approved alcohol sales today at Beaver Stadium. It seems inevitable that Michigan will sell alcohol in the near future with the professionalization of college sports at hand. I feel like this doesn't really change a lot. Students already sneak drinks into the game so the university might as well make some money on it.

Yes.

Michigan needs to not be high and mighty about this. Michigan not selling alcohol doesn’t make it a cut above everyone else who is otherwise doing it. I’m all for cutting off sales at the end of the third quarter, carding anyone who isn’t obviously of drinking age, limiting two drinks per person, but there is really no good reason not to do this. Every other possible excuse that could be conjured up has been addressed and solved by other schools doing it.

If you don’t like it, that’s fine. No one would be forcing you to drink.

Besides, with a 16 oz Bud Light that would end up costing at least $10, probably more, I don’t think you have to worry about the stadium devolving into a bacchanal. A sizable majority of the student body that is of legal drinking age will be priced out of buying more than one anyway.

See this is a reason, I can get with. Just old school and considers it sacred. Like ads in the stadium.

I get it, I respect it.

The folks who say no because they think it's going to increase the number of drunks and people acting like idiots are misguided.

But I can't hate on anyone who just likes the tradition side of things.

No it won't.

For a night game, maybe.

For everything else, just the opposite will happen. You'll deal with the same number of drunks, but far less people who are blackout hammered.

Studies show fewer people pound 10 beers before entering the stadium if they can buy in the stadium and keep the buzz rolling.

Then don't go to football games. You're not avoiding that either way.

Statistics show that there is little to no impact, and if anything, it's safer to serve in the stadium where people don't pregame ridiculously hard because they know they can't drink once inside the gates.

Binge drinking down when stadiums serve beer and wine.

wait, are we worried about revenue streams for the university?  that’s the least compelling reason to do it.

No.  Incidentally, I feel the same way about alcohol on planes: there are way too many people in way too tight quarters for alcohol to be a good idea.

If you can't go four hours without alcohol (or other intoxicants -- Good God! Everyone in your whole section has to smell what you're lighting on fire, and sharing is definitely not caring), stay home, or hang outside at the tailgate, or whatever.

Nothing ruins the game experience quite like a drunken fan.
