that after having season tickets for 23 years as an alum (and four as a student) I decided not to renew this year. I can also tell you that the general public season ticket holders have received the same letters and e-mails as the students with the same tone. First the deadline for paying my "preferred seat donation" came and went. I thought that was it, but no, it was not. I received three extensions to pay this fee, one of them was a second hard copy letter. To top that off, just last week I received one final e-mail stating that I still had time to renew my season tickets if I so desired.
Am very curious to see how this plays out.
|1 week 21 hours ago||My biggest problem with this schedule.....||
is that the national championship game will always be on a Monday night. Unlike the national championship basketball game, the national championship football game will take three and a half hours to complete. This completely sucks for us working folks (and students) that have to get up early on Tuesday. I know that having it on a Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon would conflict with the NFL Playoffs, but there has to be a better solution than a Monday night.
Maybe I just need to move to the Pacific time zone......

Graduated high school in June and started my freshmen year at U of M that fall. What I remember most about that football season is being undefeated and ranked #2, I believe, and losing AT HOME to a fairly mediocre Minnesota team. Still stings to this day.
|21 weeks 4 days ago||Outstanding!||
Number 8 was my first Michigan game in person (HS junior) and number 3 was my fresmen year. I will never forget being on the field after that game in 1986.

It's "Queen" to make it funny!

I will be out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and need to sell my two tickets to OSU. If you are interested shoot me an e-mail: email@example.com

With alcohol. Right now it is coconut vodka and Coke Zero. Yep, sweet and girlie for me!

Vodka and Coke Zero. It tastes good. I am a pussy. Fuck you! ;-)

I forgot my diploma!

I have all of my ticket stubs from 1997, including all of the home games and the game I attended at PSU. I also have the paper from 1986 when I was a freshman with the headline "Harbaugh's Rosy Promise Comes True", after he guaranteed a victory at Ohio to go to the Rose Bowl.
But I think my favorite item is my Bo bobblehead that is still sealed in the package. I don't even know how old it is. I got it from my mother-in-law and she had no idea when she acquired it!

Leyland without the Tigers is a sub-.500 manager. He is truly awful.
Francona would be nice.....

to remedy the conference champion issue. Simply eliminate the conference championship games and have each conference team play one or two more conference games during the season. This is how conference champions were determined for decades before the SEC instituted the conference championship game.
Is this perfect? Not exactly because you could still end up with tied conference records for teams that might not have played one another during the season. But, again, this was an issue for decades and various tie breakers were used to select the champion.
The point is, without the conference championship game you are less likely to end up with the scenario you outlined above.
Ultimately it will be difficult to come up with a system that works well for only a four or six team playoff. If the decision is to shorten the regular season by a couple of games and go to eight teams, or even sixteen(!!!) teams you could have slots for "at large" teams, so teams that deserve to be in the playoff are not left out.

Junior in 1989 when we won the title. There were a lot of people on South U. but it was far more festive than destructive. It was a heck of a party. Somewhere buried in my boxes of college memoribilia I have a part of the tail light assembly from the taxi that was flipped over!!!

Enough! Ice Hole schnapps. Great stuff.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||I love this||
idea. Get your freshmen into a game situation without burning the red shirt. That idea is golden.
I agree that it will never fly, but the current model is not the greatest. Why not look at ways to improve it?

Yes, it was. I have never been in a building with so much noise. Even thinking about it now makes the hair on my arms stand up just a bit. Fantastic night.

National Brownfields Conference perhaps? I was there myself. Just curious.

see what Brian is trying to do here? He is being intentionally antagonistic and negative to unite the MGoFanBase. Can't you see it is working?????
|3 years 8 weeks ago||Great game!||
I was a junior at the time and my buddies and I watched the end of this game at Dooley's. Man, I miss the way Dooley's always smelled like stale beer mixed with an undertone of vomit!
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Cool.||
That would help with that three-year backlog of season ticket requests.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Come on, man....||
Get off your high horse. If you are a head coach at a high profile D-1 school and want to keep your job, you have to win. And in the SEC, if you want to win, you need to play by the established rules. Could he have taken the high road and done it the "right way"? Sure. But it is likely he would have lost several more games and it would have cost him his job.
It is hard to be a leader if you are putting your career in jeopardy. Why should he play role of martyr?
|3 years 15 weeks ago||This....||
is spot on. You play by the rules of the league you coach in. If you think U of M would let him oversign like he did in the SEC you are crazy.
Give me the Hatter. I wanted him three years ago and nothing has happened since to change my mind. Dude can recruit and he wins.
|3 years 18 weeks ago||Agree 100%||
If DB's plan is to terminate RR and bring in a new coach then I think he is handling it correctly, provided he has the replacement all lined up. However, if the plan is to keep RR then I completely disagree with how this process is going

Cherry Smirnoff and Coke Zero. What? You got a problem with that????
|3 years 22 weeks ago||Gotta be.....||
Michael Taylor or Rick Leach. Both would have excelled running the spread. I saw Michael Taylor play when I was a Junior and he was a fine option QB. Fast, too.
That being said, Denard would probably do better than either!
Goddamn I want to beat Wisconsin this weekend. By about 70.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||With the time change happening this weekend.....||
It is pretty much guaranteed it will be dark by 5:30pm for Illinois. I know they have brought in portable lights for other games, but this was mostly for the "twilight" hours, correct? I know the permanent lights are coming, but I don't think they have been installed as of yet.
I know in past games the portable lights did not offer the best illumination on the field and often created weird shadows and such. Will this have an affect on game time?
For the record I would be in favor of a noon kick off. My three hour each way drive makes 3:30pm games killer since I like to be tailgating as early as possible!
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Absolutely!||
I absolutely remember rowing in the student section. That was during my tenure as a UM undergrad. It was pretty cool. We also did popcorn, where people would randomly jump as if they were popcorn kernels in a hot pan. I can't remember the game, but there was one occasion where the entire stadium did popcorn. It was awesome.
I also miss the rolls of TP and the marshmallows. Yeah, I know the marshmallows could be dangerous if they hit a player in the face, but it was damn cool. I also thought it was cool to see hundreds of rolls of TP thrown from the top of the student section after every touchdown. Messy? Yep. Childish? You bet. Waste of University resources (since most rolls were stolen from the dorm restrooms)? Absolutely. But it did provide a neat affect.
During my freshman year we were allowed to bring coolers(!!!) into the stadium for games. Can you imagine that today?

I would agree with these suggestions. The BW3 off of Sternberg always has a large Michigan crowd on game days. Plus there are a gazillion TV's with lots of other games on as well. The waitstaff there is easy on the eyes, too.
This place is less than five minutes from GH.
