META: Drupal 10

Submitted by BoFan on November 20th, 2023 at 2:58 PM

[SETH NOTE: Had a bunch of backlogged updates that were already QA'd that were meant to go out during the bye week until [gestures at all of it], the biggest being the move to Drupal 10 from Drupal 8. Got to a spot where we had to push out an update and had the choice between the whole thing or not.

99.9% of issues people are having are with caching. So...

If you're still having any issues after doing that please post them below. Devs are monitoring this thread.]

I didn’t see a Meta yet for the new update this morning. I believe I read it’s Drupal 10

Feel free to pin this and/or move it.

- the navigation bar (sandwich and login drop downs) doesn’t work on IPhone 11 with a Firefox browser.

Yep, the o'l Microsoft strategy without testing or proof of concept... Push it through and let the users point out the flaws. I ran it on multiple browsers and the flaws are the same. I'm OK with this, but we are 5 days out form the Big One. Timing sucks ass.

There's nothing I hate more when people make wrong, negative assumptions. I can't let myself get stomping mad about it right now because this week was already crunched before I had to deal with this shit, so I'm going to chop the first digit off your points total to make myself feel better and get back to work.

That's fine, but it was all tongue & cheek about the software itself (META), I was assuming it was the outsource company and not you or MGoBlog as I have to deal with this all the time from a Corporate upgrade standpoint. I apologize and no offense to anyone here trying to do an improvement upgrade and that was sent before your troubleshooting instructions in the edit note of the thread. I can go back to being a lurker. Peace brother!

I'm hyper sensitive when people criticize our outsourced company. Our devs are as crucial to us as any writer, and I get really upset when it sounds like readers are knocking them, because there probably isn't another company in the world who could do what they do for us. I don't know where we'd be without them. Today's issues were mostly from the server company (Nexcess). Human Element were the team that got it fixed. Sorry I got so furious, but they were furiously working on all of these issues all day today and I was just passing them along. The cache scrub fix? They figured that out in minutes.

As seems to be typical with these updates, the site is broken by default. It is incumbent on every user to tell every browser from which they access to the site to not load anything from cache.

I'm pretty sure that this could be addressed in one place, the web server, instead of many tens of thousands (every browser used by every user).

Had a bunch of updates all backing up that were supposed to go out during the bye week until all hell broke loose with Michigan, and then we hoped to save it to the end of the season until something had to go right away. So it was between rolling out this big update that we had been QAing for months or scrapping all that. Hit a snag this morning with the server and getting some issues that weren't in the staging site.

The only problem I care about is Drupal's idiotic refusal to let me delete images from the collection I've uploaded over the years, which is large enough that I'm basically unable to post any new images.

Whenever I try to delete an image, I get this message:

"(image name).jpg is in use by another application."

The update did not change this.

I've been a pretty heavy user of the internet since the dial-up days, and there isn't a single website or blog or social media platform I've ever posted on that presents this ridiculous problem.

If you can find every place you've posted that image on MGo, and then delete it from those posts, then you can delete it from your MGo allotment. It's a pain but that's the only way I've found.

You know that you can copy and paste images/gifs from the web into the comments box, right?

I could be wrong, but I also feel like the task bar was always visible as you scrolled through the comments. I now have to scroll back to the top to get to the homepage or other tasks.

EDIT: I am also unable to access the menu bar on my iPhone 13.

EDIT EDIT: At other's suggestions, I cleared my history and reloaded. Works great! Seems to be much faster on my mobile.

I weirdly haven't had any major issues with the site on the web or mobile, but sounds like there are some issues with others.

I don't quite get needing to push this update out unless it's a performance concern with the game coming up, but I sort of doubt that the traffic will be significantly different than in seasons past.  I do think people complaining about how this is going to hamstring the site overall are being a bit dramatic.
