It’s been a while since I read John Bacons book. From what I recall, there was a specific coordinator he wanted for defense from WVU but they wouldn’t let RRod bring him, thus getting Greg? In any case, I stand by that he wasnt given the amount of support Hoke or Harbaugh as seen due to him not being a “Michigan man” Hoke was the one who used the talent he eventually got to that 2011 team. Was/would RRod been exposed one his schemes, looking back yes. And thankfully UM dodged a bullet. My point is that the man didn’t get the support he deserved in a putrid team he was given and it’s not mutually exclusive with Carr getting his rightfully deserved naming on Michigan campus

RichRod wanted Casteel from West Virginia, but didn't get him. Either the University wouldn't pay for his buyout, or he stayed at West Virginia on his own accord.

Rich Rod hired Scott Schafer for the 2008 season, and then fired him at the end of the year because Schafer didn't want to run the 3-3-5.

Then all by himself, Rich Rod hired Greg Robinson for 2009 and 2010, leading to the worst defense in UM history.

1 - If your Head Coaching success hinges on a single defensive coordinator....you're a shitty head coach.

2 - The cupboard being bare doesn't excuse losing to fucking 3-9 Toledo

3 - That vaunted Spread offense? We were garbage in actual Big 10 games and only put up pity points when the game was essentially over.

Every single loss that year we were losing by halftime and never came close to winning

We went down 31-10 against Sparty, 28-7 against Iowa, 31-10 against Penn State, 31-14 against Wisconsin. And then got outscored 21-89 against Ohio State and Mississippi State.

Tunnel seems appropriate.  Lloyd should be honored for his accomplishments on and off the field. I felt he carried on the tradition of the long line of great Michigan coaches.

Let's hope we win so much in the coming decades that the Lloyd tunnel is located within Harbaugh Stadium.

Carr Tunnel   <snicker>

Carr deserves to be recognized in some way by the University, better than "Corporate monolith Tunnel brought to you by generic family name".  Carr was a good servant to UM despite not having the best credentials to be the head coach of a major D1 program.

You can like or dislike his time here, I certainly appreciated his program up until the last couple years when it was clear he was worn down, not as interested in recruiting and refused to innovate his offense and defense as the game was changing quickly.  His 2007 season was a disaster and only some luck prevented it from being a losing record,( thanks JoPA).  His overall record speaks for itself though, given the era of college football I don't think many coaches could have done better.  Carr deserves a ton of credit for maintaining what Michigan was all about, in the same way we blame, rightly, RR for burning it down.

A reminder that RR has gone from coaching Michigan to Arizona to 2 1 years stints as OC at two different schools Ole Miss and La. Monroe to the head coach at Jacksonville State.

Carr didn't support him for a reason

The nay-sayers and sparty/buckeye faithful of 2008-2010 told us over and over again that RRod’s offense was a gimmick, and we clung to our arguments and his success in the early 2000s BigEast in defiance!!…..

…..but they were right.

Thanks for Denard

You sucked

Lloyd knew you probably sucked and kept it to himself.

I've had multiple Sparties trash this. It mystifies me how they steal OSU's insult and call him "LLLLoyd." Michigan fans aren't allowed to say shit about Dantonio because he "owned your asses" with his 8-5 record, which is...<checks notes>...ooh, almost as good as Carr's 10-3 against MSU!

"Well he sucked in bowl games and against your supposed rival!"

I guess you really got us there, 6-7 in bowls isn't great. Dantonio didn't have the opportunity for 6-7, since he went 3-9 in 2016 and had to settle for a dominating 6-6. And yeah, he really showed us how to beat OSU with his...3-8 record against them.

Oh, and then of course there's Carr's 1-0 head-to-head and overall win percentage at Michigan nearly nine points better than Dantonio's at MSU. But yeah, "LLLLoyd" away lol...

Lloyd beat OSU early in his tenure, and at UM, that makes you king.

Looking back on that era, however, it is often said that nobody did less with more than Lloyd Carr.

He was our Mack Brown- both bringing in incredible recruiting classes, sending off boat loads of players to the NFL, but only managing to win 1 national title in their tenures, despite being positioned to win multiple titles respectively.

I strongly believe - and yes it’s obviously just one man’s opinion - that had it been the more aggressive, more inspiring Gary Moeller in charge throughout that era, UM would have had even greater success.
