Without watching it, I am guessing the gist is: “they’re really good. We’re just happy to be here. Please don’t prison-violate us!”

Outstanding.

Yeah... but what about King Solomon?
Good football talk, this will be a team, with a plan, bought in to their coach with respect for Michigan. No mistakes made in any of these comments. Perfect execution.
Well done.

Transcript, for those that didn't watch
We gotta play 'em one day at a time.
I'm just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ballclub.
I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.

CSU LB, Dequan Jackson, warns UM to be prepared.

To be fair, that'd be my advice for our team as well pretty much every game.
August 30th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
Dang, and here I thought the team just waltzed right into the stadium on gameday, making up shit as they go.

I shall not remind you of The Horror…

They work hard too, so this is what he needs to say for his team. Also see 2007...

Excited to be playing a game against a strong opponent, execute in all 3 phases…blah blah blah, control what we can dont worry about what we cant…etc etc

He did mention that he played against Harbaugh, played with him, and coached with him. I get the feeling they get along and there won't be any shenanigans. ...nothing like Rutger crashing the line as the QB kneels to win the game (after Michigan just boat raced them)

They're amazing on offense.
and
They're amazing on defense.
and
They're amazing on special teams.
I've known Jim a long time, played against him, played with thim.
This'll be a good opportunity for us to learn to be a three-phase football team.

What I learned from this video: CSU is an Under Armour school.
August 30th, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
I watched the entire video and I can now confidently advise others not to watch it because the only interesting thing the viewer learns is that Jay Norvell has an accent consistent with others who live in the upper midwest.

thank you for your service to the rest of humanity!

I think he might be interviewing for a Michigan OC position

Coach Norvell grew up in Madison with a friend of mine/ex-neighbor. Met him when he was coaching with the Raiders. Really nice guy. Hope we don't hurt his rep too bad.

He seems like a really nice guy. And I am sorry that Michigan is going to throttle his team.

He left one Mountain West school (Nevada) for another (CSU). Odd, you'd think he'd just wait for a Power 5 job to come open.
August 30th, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
Agreed. When you destroy a school why would you want to leave to coach it? Nevada whooped them good the last game of the season.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
Got his paycheck doubled and an AD willing to spend waaaayy more money on football than Nevada's AD.
Given the better program investments at CSU and more favorable location (i.e., easier to recruit to CSU), I think Jay will hopefully see some success here (at least by MAC/Mtn West standards) and probably be a P5 hire for an OC/head coach spot in 3-ish years.

I was wondering about this move, too, but it sure seems like Colorado St is pretty desperate to win. Their coaching hires the last 10 years basically screamed "misguided ambition".
I have a feeling that this is the kind of school that thinks it could be in the Big 12 another realignment round or two down the line. Their reputation as kind of part of that 2nd tier of 'small state public schools out West' scene seems to come from a time when Colorado was just another one of those mostly empty states out West. It's now in the top half of the country population-wise and has more people than Minnesota and is on the heels of Wisconsin. The Ft.Collins area has started to merge with the Denver metro. You can certainly see how in a powerpoint presentation one could make a convincing case that CSU is due a big jump.

Random numbers for thought. Colorado State is combined 1-12 all time against Big Ten teams.
Their only win came against Michigan State in 1998, first game of the season 23-16. I remember watching that one. State blew a 16-0 lead in the second half and couldn't get any offense generated. Down a touchdown in the final minutes, Nick Saban sent in freshman QB Ryan VanDkye to try to spark the offense, and it went badly. Saban had a suicidal look on his face often in those days before he went down south.
