Sunday morning roundup: Cristobal targeting Gattis for Miami (YTM) OC
February 6th, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
Michigans offense is loaded going into next year and you have to imagine Gattis is getting a head coaching offer in the P5 after another good season so why would he leave for a rebuild? Pay the man and put this to bed.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:41 AM ^
Michigan has dabbled in the Fuck Around waters with this Harbaugh situation. Gonna find out quick if they are now in the And Find Out phase of things.
EDIT: Hey! Welcome to the Find Out Phase everyone!! Let’s see what else is in store this round. Keep an eye on the ol transfer portal.

Gotta think when JH was about to leave, it must've been apparent he wasn't going to get the head job.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
Has NOTHING to do with that and everything to do with Gattis wanted an extension and more loot after last season and M said no.
His speed in space was more self promotion and the things changed when JH took the O back under his wing, brought in some coaches and made Gattis look like a super star.
Probable a good idea for him to leave, his hype is at its apex. Sell HIGH.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
i have no idea if this is true, but i will say it sounds plausible.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:06 PM ^
He left because he was asked to leave.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:35 AM ^
He is getting raise here as a OC, why would he go to Miami?
February 6th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
Because he can be the head coach there before long.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
This has to be one of the dumbest comments posted on this board recently, and that's saying a lot!
February 6th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
Because Harbaugh left his entire staff and program hanging in the wind for two months?? If you’re gonna flirt with someone else, don’t be surprised if the people back home decide to move on when you decide to come back.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
This is interesting,
"Because Harbaugh left his entire staff and program hanging in the wind for two month's"
Do you actually believe this?
Personally I saw JH all over twitter and the gram out on the recruiting trail with his assistants at least every other day. I saw him squatting at a recruits HS, I saw him at a recruits BBall game, I even saw him at a M Hockey game..........not exactly sure how that is twisted into leaving them hanging for two months.
Maybe you should have just said, because you fell for every BS tweet and listened to the clickbait con men and allowed yourself to be manipulated by social media headlines you were confused and unsure what was happening within the program so with that, more than likely the coaches were as confused as you were. But they were not. Just you.

Friction with Matt Weiss? Just random internet speculation on my part but Weiss does seem to have the ear of Harbaugh
February 6th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
That would be my guess. Jim feels more comfortable with Weiss. I'm not a fan of Gattis. This move will see how his coaching career shakes out.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
Taking the same job at a smaller program would be a bizarre thing to do unless a) Miami is willing to pay an unheard of amount of money for a coordinator or b) the Harbaugh NFL flirtation did more damage to staff trust than we thought.
But "Miami is targeting" does not necessarily imply "Gattis is listening." Miami could be "targeting" the ghost of Vince Lombardi.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
Gattis probably just wanted out.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
Must be getting HC money. He’s gone after next year anyway for a HC job
February 6th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
People wanted him fired after 2020. He was gone after 2022 anyways. Promote Mike Hart and be done with it.
While he had some creative trick/misdirection plays this year, how much do we think was him vs. the new guys brought in?
Also, I want a FB again.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
Jesus. This fan base’s solution to everything is to give Mike Hart the job. Just wow.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:01 AM ^
Right? What exactly did Hart do last season as a coach that warrants moving up to OC or head coach?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:11 AM ^
Michigan Man nonsense/bullshit. The sooner this program moves away from anything to do with the old guard, the better we'll be for it.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:11 AM ^
He coached the most productive Michigan running back room since he was our running back?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
So, you suppose we test out the Peter Principle?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:29 AM ^
I don't know enough about the inner workings of the team to know if he's the answer, but what are you saying exactly? We should never promote anyone?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:38 AM ^
Nope. That’s not what I am saying. What I am saying is that for all we know right now Sherrone Moore is still in the fold and he was Co-OC last year. His position group was the driver of last seasons success. Yet, the solution everyone has is “make Mike Hart OC.” Over the guy who was Co-OC and who had an even better position group. Why overlook Moore for Hart?
February 6th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
You mean the same strategy that had us losing to OSU every year.. I’ll pass.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
Miami is targetting everyone! But this makes no sense for Gattis.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
That was quick. Wonder why he’d choose Miami over Michigan
edit: also this lends credence to the Balas report that maybe Hart had passed Gattis. Taking a lateral move to a worse offense is something you do if you’re disgruntled.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
OUR PETS' HEADS ARE FALLIN OFF
what in the actual fuck?!?!

February 6th, 2022 at 10:44 AM ^
Large sums of CASH MONEY?
Just a guess. May also have felt snubbed if Hart was the preferred candidate internally if Harbaugh left.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:47 AM ^
So the guy who tried to get his head coach the Minnesota Vikings job is now going to be elevated OC. Starting to wonder about MW more and more
February 6th, 2022 at 11:12 AM ^
Matt Rasputin.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
I’m guessing with Jim begging the Vikings to take him and obviously wanting to leave, that Josh thought we would be head coach. And when this didn’t happen he decided he didn’t want the show the Jim runs any longer.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Or maybe he’s thinking show he can do it at another place next year and he’s got himself an even better case for a big time coaching job. And maybe they paid him more? Also it’s Miami and he’s in Ann Arbor in February? Could be lots of reason.
edit: dunno how my reply ended up here. Oh well.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Yes. But disgruntled because of getting passed by. This move is in no way a positive for Gattis. Michigan's offense for the next two years has a chance to be explosive and elite. This tells me that Jim is not unhappy about Gattis leaving.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
He choose Miami over others. But not Michigan.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
I can't help but wonder if this is the first real collateral damage from Jim's "hall pass" to look around.
Timing is odd. School selection is odd.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
That’s my sense. There’s no way the leader of the team can flirt like that with an NFL team and leave everyone guessing for two months without some people deciding to move on regardless if he comes back or not.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
Gattis felt like Jim was always going to get more credit for the offense than he was. Yes I know he just won a Broyles award, but a lot of people think Jim’s hand is still all over the offense. Getting away from Jim for a year or two helps him prove it’s his success and helps him move up the ladder towards being a head coach.
I personally believe Weiss had a lot more to do with the offense than people realize. Weiss is known for helping make play calls and keep things in rhythm. Gattis biggest problem before this year was people complaining the offense was all over the place and he would have some success with stuff and then abandon it.
This is honestly better for Gattis and Michigan to be honest. I think Weiss had a ton to do with the success this season. And Gattis needs to prove he’s the real deal. I also think Gattis will never has as much success as an OC as he did this year. Take that for what it’s worth.
In this situation it was best for everyone involved. Losing Mike as DC hurt way worse than this will. Also Hart has been an associate head coach at two programs and has been groomed to be a head coach. He was more likely to be promoted over Gattis and I think Gattis realized that. Hart would be the kind of guy to hire successful OC and DC and let them do their thing much like Dabo. Hart is a lot closer to being a head coach than Gattis.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:52 AM ^
Gattis biggest problem before this year was people complaining the offense was all over the place and he would have some success with stuff and then abandon it.
What is interesting is people in the past would say Harbaugh had final say and it was his offense not Gattis' so how can Gattis be faulted with a disorganized offense or going away from stuff when folks didn't believe he wad calling plays anyway? I do agree its best for him to leave because he will alway get the blame for the poor outcomes and not be given enough credti for the successes of offense.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:41 PM ^
Why??????
Curious?????
Jim knew Gattis was leaving before Gattis did.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
I guess Bruce Feldman doesn't mind being wrong as long as they'll let him keep throwing shit against the wall. Gattis is smarter than to leave UM to get to miami
February 6th, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
You sure about that? Sounds like it may already be done.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
Can everyone just leave our coaches alone already. FFS!
Also, with the kind of talent we have returning this year Gattis should be able to call his shot for an HC spot next year. Don't see why he would make an, at best, lateral jump especially at this point in the season.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
Majority of yall didn't like him anyway. Everybody say that Weiss was the real OC anyway so I guess we will see now.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
No, no no. We said Harbaugh was the real OC, not Weiss.
Get your unconfirmed conspiracy theory's straight.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:48 AM ^
There have been whispers about off the field things with gattis and he would be gone either way. Thought they were just internet bs. Maybe maybe not. He could have just wanted to get more autonomy and live in Miami.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
What whispers? Be specific.
