Friday night drinking (and eating) thread
I'm heading out to Mellow Mushroom to pick up a couple of pizza's for the fam. Founders Porter is waiting in the fridge for my return. Big sigh of relief after a tense few days; looking forward to putting my feet up on the coffee table and relaxing.
What on your plate and in your glass tonight?

Costco shopping night with the wife, so... free samples dinner night?
February 4th, 2022 at 6:12 PM ^
The return of free samples at costco was my metric for knowing when society had somewhat returned to normal.

Costco was a madhouse here in ATX before the ice storm.
I'm having a local Axis IPA before I go camping tomorrow night here in Central Texas. Its going to be in the low 20s, going to burn a lot of wood in my Solo Stove and sleep on the ground in my 24 year old zero-degree sleeping bag I love.
Then, on Monday, fly out to OC CA to find a place to live for my new job.
February 5th, 2022 at 5:31 AM ^
Best of luck on your search and your new job.
The MGoGirlfriend went shopping at Costco a couple of days ago, prepping for the storm. She came home with a small mountain of stuff, including a case of Irish beer, two bottles of wine, and a shepherd's pie.
She also informed me that it was my fault for letting her buy so much. I find that funny. When that woman wants to buy something, Georgia's defense couldn't stop her.

Pork tenderloin on the grill with olive oil and balsamic vinegar glazing. Roasted broccoli and sweet potatoes.
Crown and Zevia cola in the glass.
Go Blue
EDIT*** Costco guy above me...pick up a package of the marinated skirt steak. Grill it and chop it up for fajitas/tacos. Needs no other seasoning. Thank me later.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:02 PM ^
Will try - thanks!
February 4th, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
Pork for me as well. “Back Yard BBQ” pizza with pulled pork, sweet peppers, BBQ sauce, etc. First time trying this pie.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:39 PM ^
Sounds magnificent
February 4th, 2022 at 6:27 PM ^
Recently tried Zevia cola to mix with my Kraken and various whiskeys when that was the only option at the local Sprouts. Terrible stuff, never again.

Date night with the wife in about an hour. Dinner then catching Jackass Forever.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:24 PM ^
Same - except will be watching Uncle Buck with the kids when we return from dinner out. Wife’s idea- she is a genius.
February 4th, 2022 at 4:57 PM ^
Pizza and some Midwinter Night’s Dram.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
Debating between rack of lamb or a big Costco prime rib eye...
And like Mike, sweet potato and roasted broccoli..
And a big Napa or Sonoma TBD Red...

Just got my second Shingles vax (younger people, something you have to look forward to) so I'm laying low, experiencing the usual side effects. Probably will order take out or bribe my husband into going to get Shake Shack.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
Hope your recovery goes smoothly and you are doing well for the weekend?.
My wife got her second pneumonia vax the other day and she felt like $hit for about 48 hours. Doing better today, but her arm is still sore.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:24 PM ^
I did the shingles and pneumonia at the same time last week and was useless, as were my arms, for going into a third day! I like the idea of not dying of pneumonia, though. And shingles, I understand, is dreadful.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
Glad to hear she's feeling better. I know it's temporary which makes it more bearable.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:28 PM ^
Good luck. I felt terrible for 24 hours after the 1st one, need the second one this month.
From what I hear it's a way more tolerable than shingles.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:37 PM ^
My stepsister got shingles and was in pain for months. My husband got it and the rash lasted for a few weeks and was very painful. A few days of flu-like symptoms seems like a walk in the park in comparison.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:29 PM ^
Hey Wendy - just thinking about you the other day. Haven’t seen your comments for a bit. Hope the side effects aren’t bad.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:41 PM ^
Be well. Both rounds tore me a new one (at least compared to other vaccines).
February 4th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
I'm holding off until I turn 60. I'm 58 now and hope in a couple of years that COVID is no longer a thing. Don't want to feel sick at work.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:13 PM ^
KC Single Barrel Select 120 proof, neat.
The Mgowife is making her famous spaghetti sauce from scratch ?.
Tomorrow, my brother is smoking ribs to celebrate our birthdays. Also lots of beer; Shiner Bock, Yuengling, Founders Solid Gold..... maybe some bourbon for dessert ?
Go Blue beat purdue ??
February 4th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Very nice as always!
February 4th, 2022 at 6:00 PM ^
Thanks MGoHillbilly ?. How's your hand? Is the ECBP medicine helping?
Hope you have a great weekend ?
February 4th, 2022 at 6:05 PM ^
You know it! It's actually going to be my next pour after this. I'll end up finishing with the Hochstadter's 16 rye. It's been an exhausting week which has otherwise turned out alright.
Regarding the hand, MgoWife/Sister pulled some strings to get me in with a hand surgeon on Monday, so I'll know more then.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:25 PM ^
Saw the pictures. Happy to hear that. Don’t let it get infected (master of the obvious). Ancient medical treatment includes pouring whiskey to keep it clean. You may want to consider that.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:30 PM ^
Infection is best staved off with alcohol from inside the body.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:26 PM ^
Good luck with the hand surgeon. Hope everything goes well. Enjoy your ECBP medicine.....I might have to have some myself?
February 4th, 2022 at 7:31 PM ^
Ripped your palm off in a freak accident? I hope everything works out very well. I see you still have your sense of humor, so I assume you are a good track to recovery. I wish you the best.
February 4th, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
Yes sir. Thank you for the well wishes.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:16 PM ^
A very rare occurence: family dinner for four at my home. Bride is eagerly planning a nice Bolognese pasta dish - she misses cooking for the family.
There will be some fine Scotch consumed by two of the four attendees. The two consumers take turns choosing the brand (The Balvenie or Cragganmore) and age of same. I stay out of it, I just enjoy having my small tribe back under my roof again.
I typically open my meal with the more traditional, now probably archaic, sweet vermouth.

Will be eating and drinking at Goldener Hirsch, Park City, Utah
February 4th, 2022 at 5:32 PM ^
Are you skiing/boarding?
February 4th, 2022 at 5:35 PM ^
Only when he's not counting his millions.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:26 PM ^
Spending, not counting
February 4th, 2022 at 6:25 PM ^
Skiing

I’m eating like Erin Andrews. Tonight I’ll be eating a double bacon burger with tots. Take it one tot at a time. Protect the burger. Get back to fundamentals.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
Having cheese and onion pierogies with spinach pesto and a salad. Drinking yummy sodastream water spiced up with a slice of key lime bc I gave up drinking for a year; I'm getting old and alcohol was messing with my sleep. Dunno if I am kicked out of the club or not. Guys, whaddya say?
Fellas? Fellas?
February 4th, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
You can stay on the condition you get some gummies (sleep!). Speak with Mad Hatter.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
Uh. Well. It's quite possible that age is messing with your sleep too (says one old guy to another).
Ageing does suck and requires a sense of humor; however, it beats the alternative.
February 4th, 2022 at 6:00 PM ^
Nice. Booze messes with my sleep but not enough yet for me to reconsider consumption. There would be a point where I’d have to drop it or cut back—sleep is too important
February 4th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
That just means you weren't drinking enough (probably water during the day).
February 5th, 2022 at 8:50 AM ^
I think about joining AA partly for the camaraderie (joining some friend in years ~10 and 20) since my drinking is way down, but I don't think you do that as a part time commitment. We do share a number of regular non-drinking activities.
Melatonin has been part of bedtime routine for the last three years. The over-the-counter dosage keeps going up, but I keep my dose small. So far, so good and most of the recent studies about melatonin have fewer warnings and caveats.
Pierogies are awesome on a cold night, and you can drink whatever you like.

Homemade pizza (nice hobby that my wife picked up during the pandemic) and an IPA from a local favorite brewery. Then, family movie night. Think about how many films appeal to a toddler, an elementary schooler and an old Millennial and imagine how wild it is about to get here.
February 4th, 2022 at 7:12 PM ^
Pizza is weird. I've done the same, making my own dough and sauce for a few years. I make four pizza's at a time and pizza 3 & 4 always cooked different the 1 & 2. Realized it was because of the pizza pans being different. Thicker stainless steel vs thinner coated steel.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:25 PM ^
Pork Carnitas for dinner
Water in the cup because I'm working tonight.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
Some Southern Tier & a Weller 12 year, then off to our local brewery for dinner & beers with our Friday crowd.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
That S'mores ale looks delicious and of course I jealous of the Weller 12. All Weller is pretty much non-existent here in Michigan.
February 4th, 2022 at 5:55 PM ^
That A119 is fairly hot. Mine was better after a month of being open. Enjoy!
