OT: Malik McDowell Arrested in Florida
We interrupt today's Harbaugh-watch with some sad news. In what will almost almost assuredly bring an end to a once promising comeback story, Malik McDowell was arrested Monday in Florida for public exposure and beating a deputy. McDowell started all 16 games for the Browns this year recording 3 sacks and generally performing well on the interior defensive line. The Browns were expected to offer McDowell a new contract but clearly that won't be happening now as he is still on probation in Michigan so he's now looking at some serious jail time.
You may now return to your regulary scheduled "will he or won't he" Harbaugh debate.

Was this the guy that requested to see the supervisor?
January 18th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
Sad, wonder if TBI is a factor.
Also, now I have a Bob Marley tune stuck in my head.
January 18th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
Or he’s just an entitled asshole that thinks rules don’t apply to him. Also whatever he was on is a hell of a drug.
January 18th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
Sounds like he just wanted "lil' Malik" to get some fresh air.
January 18th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
Walking naked next to a school doesn't sound like entitled. Sounds like mental health issues or drug abuse
January 18th, 2022 at 10:51 AM ^
The police report indicates that the incident began after a call was received that a man was walking naked near a school.
So he'll go from being on an NFL roster to being listed on the sex offender registry.
January 18th, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
Deservedly so.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:07 AM ^
He was just looking for the supervisor.

was this the guy who wanted to go to michigan state with his boys but his family wanted him to get away from that and go to Michigan to avoid bad influences?
January 18th, 2022 at 10:59 AM ^
Yup, that's him.
Moms know. Moms always know.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:13 AM ^
true, but seems like distance didnt help. Then again, florida isnt exactly the bastion of smart decision.
Sad to see, he had opportunities all along the way and clearly can't get his sh* together.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
Why is Florida not a smart decision? Not sure what him being in Florida has anything to do with his poor decision making. He could have done this in any State.

google "florida man" along with your birthday and see what comes up.

I listen to Marty & McGee every Saturday morning and they wrap up their show with Hillbilly Headlines. Most often, their reports often involve someone in Florida.

So then you fully understood my point. Cool.
Distance didn't matter - he appears to be the problem. Florida, of all places, is not the spot to get things cleaned up / make sensible decisions.

When confronted about it all Bradley D. Young said “I have 24 cents of Koolaid in my pocket and I just wanted a drink” as an excuse for why he had batteries, scooters, navigation systems and other expensive merchandise hidden from view under clothes piled up on top of them…

He was, uh, apparently not successful in his attempt to steal the car. You cannot make stuff up better than this ...

Just a sad story - the kid could have done such good with his talent (and the money it entails).
I genuinely wonder if 1) his life path would have been better had he come here or 2) maybe we just dodged a bullet by missing out on a bad apple.
Either way, not good.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:40 AM ^
Based on the evidence, it sure seems as if this is a person with some sort of severe mental illness. Or addiction. Or both. He did have a bad head injury. Seems like maybe the guy needs help rather than ridicule. But, hey, what do I know.
January 19th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
As you say, it does seem clear he has a drug problem and very probably mental problems. I don't know why people here get so much enjoyment mocking him and are delighted that his life is ruined. Apparently all because he went to MSU.

He was streaking. He was going up through the quad and the gymnasium. Everyone was doing it. Was KFC still open?
January 18th, 2022 at 11:04 AM ^
I usually upvote your comments as they tend to be very funny. However, in this case, here is a person who needs some serious help with some mental health issues and he is derailing his career and life because he isn't getting it or refusing it. Sad.
And did he ever get any help at staee under Deandtony, or did that POS human being / coach overlook his struggles and just wanted him to play vs getting Malik some help - I bet the latter.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
OK, while I was obviously joking, I guess I need to be all serious now... Your attempt to "blame" a person's mental health struggles on a rival football team's coach is pretty pathetic. Are you really suggesting that Brady Hoke/Jim Harbaugh would have somehow miraculously cured McDowell of these ills, and sent him on a pristine path towards a lucrative, successful, trouble-free future? In my opinion, that childish scapegoating detracts from the real issue of mental health care in our system that you suggest you want to "take seriously."
January 18th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
This is true. Also true, some people with mental health issues can still be assholes.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:37 AM ^
This, plus I'd add Hoke was the coach for Frank Clark and we all know how that turned out. There are over a hundred players on a football team every year, so statistically some of them are likely to have issues that a head coach is not going to be able to fix. I think Dantonio always got portrayed as more of a disciplinarian than he was, but unless there's some pattern with a coach it's bad to blame them for guys who struggle with issues off the field.
January 18th, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
Same goes for parents. Positive parenting is obviously the number one influence in a kid's life but there are some people whose struggles are just too much for even the best-intentioned parent who seeks out all kinds of help. Sometimes kids (young adults especially) are unreachable or have to go through some pretty major upheaval before they can pull themselves together.
January 18th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
Unreachable kids are reachable or can be guided - BUT it takes a very smart, disciplined, and emotionally strong parent or, better yet, two parents who are on the same page and who can relieve their spouse when a break is needed.
It's hard work keeping "the little darlings" on a decent life path. It's exhausting but it can be done.
Parents are key when there's an undiagnosed mental health issue that doesn't manifest obviously until something goes horribly, very wrong. Think undiagnosed Bipolar Type 1 or Type 2 - scheiss happens, arrests and psych ward lock downs occur, especially when the kid tries to self-medicate.
If the parents are clueless or give up? That poor kid is pretty much screwed: the courts and "the system" are not equipped to do much to help, they just punish and work to protect the public.
This is obviously an undiagnosed kid/man.

Last I saw, Frank Clark was doing pretty well. Obviously he had some challenges but it seems to have turned out just fine.

Seems like Frank was caught with an Uzi.and was facing a gun charge last year.
January 18th, 2022 at 6:50 PM ^
I made the clearly misguided assumption that since he was playing this weekend that must have been cleared up. Obviously I was giving way too much credit to the NFL to not play someone facing felony charges.
January 18th, 2022 at 12:02 PM ^
He was arrested twice for felony firearm possession twice last year. All he's showing is that he can stay out of trouble when football fills up his schedule.
January 18th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
I think mocking and ridicule are appropriate here. Especially if done comedically.
to your point, however, I am glad our society is taking mental health more seriously. That said, actions are actions. I sometimes have the desire to strangle coworkers, but my frontal lobe reminds me of consequences and I start chucking at myself. Bad mental imagination, make a joke, mental healing. Without laughter I would be in a straight jacket.

Supervisor jokes aside, that ATV accident must have done some serious damage to this guy's head. This is more than just stupidity.
