Michigan St fans doing #BoycottTheHeisman. But why?

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on December 6th, 2021 at 10:05 PM

As most here already know, there's lots of complaints from Michigan St fans over Aidan Hutchinson being a Heisman finalist but not Kenneth Walker lll.

Here's a link to a list of tweets to that effect:

https://sports.yahoo.com/look-michigan-state-football-fans-011919553.html?guccounter=1

A link to Spartan 247 message board complaints:

https://247sports.com/college/michigan-state/board/93/Contents/heisman-finalists-no-walker-177545250/?page=1

So a step beyond the complaints is a movement to "#BoycottTheHeisman".

At the link is a bunch of tweets for the boycott. https://twitter.com/search?q=%23BoycottTheHeisman&src=typeahead_click&f=top

But really, is there a case for Kenneth Walker lll to be a finalist? He came out blazing at the start of the season. But faded toward the end of the season. Heisman candidates should finish strong, shouldn't they?

So what is all the complaining from Michigan St fans all about? Because it looks like this:

imo, walker is more deserving than one of those QBs. but sparty in their little brother way, focuses on hutchenson who clearly belongs there. he is the best defensive player in the country. and with the somewhat mediocre QBs there, i think he deserves the heisman.  no bias of course.

And in many comments they have the gall to say, “he had 0 tackles against Walker” as well. As if he didn’t have a sack in their game, get held every play, and also a TD clearly taken off the board. Part of the reason Hutch is there is because of how HE was SNUBBED on the field! Michigan could be 13-0 with competent officiating

We played Iowa this week.

Sparty played with themselves.

Not that they need much time but they've had time to drum up the usual Sparty disrespekt.

Their constipated coach got conference coach of the year, even though they ended up third in the East. Enjoy what you got, babies.

The entire MSU Twitter base has reached a whole new level of cringe in the last two weeks. They believe that they won the Big Ten and went to the playoff because they beat the team that won the Big Ten and went t the playoff. They honestly think that Tucker being 2-0 against Michigan is a bigger accomplishment than Michigan's season.

I’ve been reading these threads tonight. This is exactly why they are called “little brother.” For acting like this. Now shut up and get me a can of Faygo, Tommy.

They are bothered by the existence of The University of Michigan....... everyday. That is the payoff.

They don’t seem to understand how football works. They were “LOL” at having McCarthy throw the Hail Mary before halftime because “he’s the running QB.”

None of these Sparties are smart enough to realize that the ceremony invitees aren't chosen as the only ones eligible for the award (unlike the bednarik where Aiden was snubbed) the "finalists" are announced based on the number of votes they received from voters.

KWIII had the same chance as everyone else to get there but when the votes were counted he wasn't top 4.

For a time prior to 2000 - the Heisman ceremony always invited 5 people.  Then it started being a variable number.  Now they've announced the number invited will always be 4.

If it were me - it should go back to 5.  I mean, what's the harm in inviting 5 vs 4?  In any year, there will always be 5 players who had great years and deserve the honor of an invite.  An invite is a great honor just in itself.  Walker, IMO, would be among those 5 this year.

M fans would be doing the same whining if Haskins had a season like Walker and the situation was reversed. I know this because (some) M fans whine about anything/everything!

Haskins had more TDs than Walker, shared time with a much better back that almost had 1000 yards and 11 TDs, and had his biggest game in the most important game of the year that put us into the B10 championship game. I haven’t heard any Michigan fans complaining that Haskins didn’t make the Heisman finalist list

Hasn't the Heisman morphed into a QB award?  It really only cares about the CJ Strouds of the college football world these days.  The quarterback that puts up video game like numbers every week.

Looking at the entire history of Heisman winners, the vast majority of the winners from its inception up to the early 1960s were RBs. At that point QBs started to appear more often, like Terry Baker ('62), John Huarte ('64), Spurrier ('66) and Gary Beban ('67). I suspect this reflected the growing importance of the passing game in college football, compared to the previous decades when the running game was dominant.

Then, starting in 1972, RBs dominated the award once again, winning 11 straight, and I think it's because of the dominance of the wishbone offense and its various run-oriented iterations across college football.

In the middle '80s, starting with Doug Flutie in '84, QBs started winning more often, winning 8 awards out of the next 16.

Beginning in 2000, the Heisman solidified as a QB award, with 17 awards going to QBs through the 2020 season, with Young the favorite to extend the QB dominance. Obviously this streak is reflective of how passing-oriented college football has become.

Why are they surprised? Few people mentioned his name the last 3 weeks. Also, I've heard more and more pundits say we should be 13-0, but got screwed on the strip-sack TD. That also means Hutchinson lost a TD on the play. His statline should be even more impressive.

You need to keep in mind -- as far as Staee is concerned, there's only one football game a year.  Therefore, Walker averaged 5 touchdowns per game (!).  I mean, who's ever done that?! That's got to be a record, right? #SpartyLogic

Why?  For the same reasons they burn couches win or lose... intelligence level...

And if Hutchinson wasn't a finalist, theyd still be pissed Walker not one, but would not "boycott".  And how exactly does one boycott a closed event ?

Honestly there's a case to be made for KWIII instead of yet another QB.

That being said, what the hell does "boycott" the Heisman mean? You're not going to subscribe to their newsletter? I swear people just spout buzz words.

any mention of the MSU "win" over Michigan without also mentioning the refs absolute fuckup on the strip sack TD that flipped the game is just hot garbage.

so fuck off - LOGAN ROY

You know what? I don't have a problem with KWIII being a Heisman finalist.  You can make an arguable case against him being in the final four, but that's true of the four who will be in NY. Although it's not the same thing, he was likely the most valuable single player for any of the good teams this year, and he got us good. And although I think most of us would've voted for Harbaugh as B1G Coach of the Year, I had no problem with Mel Tucker getting the award because he had a good case as well.

You'll notice, though, that I didn't pitch a juvenile b1tchfit about how the conference hates Harbaugh just because the award went to the coach of a team I hate, because, like it or not, Tuck *was* a deserving candidate.

And that's the Michigan Difference (tm)

Hey, I’m glad Tucker got the award. Think about it. If it weren’t for the hype train, MSU wouldn’t have inked him to a TEN year contract based on one reasonably good season. I have a strong suspicion that we’re going to have plenty of time to be very happy that Tucker is at MSU for the long haul, and we have hype and awards in part to thank for it.

The Heisman has turned into a joke.  It doesn’t go the best college player, never has. They have only gotten it right about 10% of the time.  It’s an offensive award for the QB on the #1 team or some guy who puts up gaudy stats like Andre Ware or Ty Detmer. Gino Torretta and Danny Wuerffel won it.  That tells you everything you need to know. Leroy Selmon, Hugh Green, Warren Sapp, Ndamukong Suh and many other defensive players should have won it along with Woodson.  This year Bryce Young will win it, when Hutchinson should.

THIS is a worthy thread! There are so many great posts here...MSU literally gained nothing from beating Michigan this year. They overpaid for a HC, no Heisman bid, nobody respects their win, bowl game against Narduzzi, their supreme rival beat the team that mattered to them (same team that destroyed MSU), and they have to watch as Michigan goes to the playoffs with a legit chance to win it all :)
