OT: Sports talk radio in Columbus today
Maybe some here are not interested in this, but I found it hilarious. Living outside of Columbus and working in Columbus I am forced to listen to all Buckeye talk and today for them was……..not good.
This morning they were so agitated that Bobby Carpenter went off on some weird, borderline insane (quite aggressive towards his co-host) rampage about how OSU ticketing office and the whole institution has let him/them down. They had a ticketing snafu before the game that didn’t allow some fans in on time, and he ridiculously trying to make a point how everybody else screws up yet only the players and coaches take heat.
Tonight on the Buckeye Show they did a Big10 rundown with short descriptions and stories of each game, yet the merely said “Michigan also won” and moved on without anything else.
TLDR: Their feelings are hurt and they are showing it, can’t imagine them if they had to endure the journey we have been on.

They did under Cooper.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:06 PM ^
You remember Cooper differently. Outside of Michigan, they won with extreme regularity. I know this board would be agitated by going 2-8 against OSU and winning ten games regularly. Right? Right?!
September 13th, 2021 at 8:10 PM ^
And for OSU, The Game is ultimately what matters and he sucked in it. I’d take one win at this point but that wasn’t my point and we aren’t talking about Michigan. The two universities view things entirely differently.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:54 PM ^
The Game is what ultimately matters for Michigan too which is why Harbaugh has taken heat.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:14 PM ^
You don’t know us very well.
Yes, we would be agitated
September 13th, 2021 at 8:56 PM ^
Hell we have fans agitated after a win because they didn’t like they way we won the game
September 13th, 2021 at 11:24 PM ^
I think fans are agitated because they happened to notice that we were stuck running a 1-dimensional offense against a team that lost to Montana. Fans are also smart (and experienced) enough to know this game plan won’t hold up against many teams in our conference not named Nebraska.
September 14th, 2021 at 2:10 AM ^
Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, Northwestern... There are several teams that we would have a shot against if we ran that same game plan week in and week out.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
Actually, Cooper didn’t win with extreme regularity until later in his coaching career. Not many people remember that once he got to OSU, he started out 0-5 against Illinois, then lost to them a couple more times in the 90s, including an ass kicking at the shoe in 1999.
His bowl record was rather meh as well. His struggles weren’t just against Michigan. We were just the main one pointed out.
Michigan won 8 big ten titles during Cooper’s 13 years in Columbus.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:56 PM ^
Yeah Cooper had 7 seasons with at least 4 losses in his 13 years at OSU.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:15 PM ^
Hey, don’t let your facts get in the way of my apparent memory of the Cooper years.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:29 PM ^
"Winning ten games regularly"?
*He took over a team that went 11-1, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3, 10-3, and 6-4-1 in the previous 9 years.*
Cooper's record:
1988: 4-6-1
1989: 8-4
1990: 7-4-1
1991: 8-4
1992: 8-3-1
1993: 10-1-1
1994: 9-4
1995: 11-2
1996: 11-1
1997: 10-3
1998: 11-1
1999: 6-6
2000: 8-4
13 seasons and 5 of those were 10+ win seasons.
Am I missing something?
September 13th, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
That's probably why they're so batshit insane now - losing to Michigan truly fucks them in the head. Go on twitter or the message boards, the most unhinged OSU posters are all in their 40s and 50s - the ones who spent their teenage years and young adulthood watching some of OSU's most talented teams of all time lose to 8-3 type Michigan teams led by dudes like Howard, Woodson, Grbac etc who were all from Ohio.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:37 PM ^
It fucked up Michigan fans of that age too. For the first 25 years of my life we kicked the shit out of OSU all the time! Even when they were the better team!
It's like the timeline shifted and I'm in my own private hell every November.
They need to reset the matrix.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:39 PM ^
We cannot reset it until Bo is re-animated. We have been on this weird trajectory since he died.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:57 PM ^
Did you not watch the game Saturday night?
September 13th, 2021 at 9:41 PM ^
I think that's part of the reason I enjoyed watching it so much. Big plays and a QB slinging it all over the field is fun, but in my oldest memories football is ground and pound.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:41 PM ^
Amen, I feel the same way. I remember when the Game was coming up and thinking "they got this, no big deal". Damn that was a long time ago.
September 13th, 2021 at 10:55 PM ^
Preach Hatter!
September 14th, 2021 at 9:05 AM ^
the part that is the worst is OSU's dominance has coincided with the explosion of sports opinion shows and hot takes as well as blogs/message boards/and the twitterz.
September 14th, 2021 at 8:46 PM ^
I keep hoping all the societal upheaval due to Covid will reset that matrix.
September 14th, 2021 at 9:52 AM ^
And don't forget Tim "313" Biakabatuka. And that's not his area code. (BTW, he's from Quebec, Ohio.)
September 13th, 2021 at 9:19 PM ^
Their suffering under Cooper doesn’t even remotely compare to Michigan’s suffering the last 15-20 years. His teams were still regular title contenders that just shit their pants against Michigan. But they’d still win a bunch of games.
OSU has no goddamn clue about what suffering is.
September 14th, 2021 at 12:22 PM ^
They were upset by Michigan a few times under Cooper, otherwise they were a very solid top 10 program for his decade plus in charge. The very end of the Earl Bruce era was the closest they've come to being "down" in my lifetime.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:02 PM ^
I don't know why Carpenter should be so upset. They did the fans a favor to not have to sit through that garbage effort.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
Ryan Day is a shit coach.
OSU returns to earth this year.
I want to believe
September 13th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Didn’t take long for them to lose a game once Urban left town.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:04 PM ^
Ah yes, the annual "OSU lost a game, theyre so overrated, this is the year we finally beat them". I've seen this about 18 other times before. One time it was correct.
September 13th, 2021 at 11:17 PM ^
Oh shut up
September 13th, 2021 at 11:29 PM ^
We beat WMU and UW. OSU lost to Oregon. Obviously this means OSU is vulnerable to our rushing attack, right?
September 14th, 2021 at 2:28 AM ^
I think all but one of the rushes Oregon executed went for positive yardage. That's not good by any stretch of the imagination.
September 14th, 2021 at 9:14 AM ^
I mean yea from watching what Minnesota and Oregon were able to do rushing, there's a good chance Michigan will find some success on the ground especially if Coombs is still in charge of that D come game day. That doesn't mean they won't carve up Michigan's secondary and score fast while Michigan tries to grind it out.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:13 PM ^
Hey OSU, you know what's good for easing the pain of a football loss?
When you lick my butthole.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:26 PM ^
Don’t threaten them with a good time
September 14th, 2021 at 4:10 AM ^
Name checks out
September 13th, 2021 at 8:19 PM ^
No one had fun at the OSU game that was wearing scarlet and gray.
September 14th, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
You hate to see it…
September 14th, 2021 at 5:48 AM ^
That will never get old.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:19 PM ^
Take it with a grain of salt. Half of the time Bobby goes off some weird ass tangents and Rothman pulls him back. It’s just so much greater when they lose during the season because they, and everyone else down here think it’s the end of the world so these radio heads blame a lot on some random crap. This is the first time they have met with real adversity and cannot fathom that it’s happening to them. I love it.
September 14th, 2021 at 8:52 PM ^
I live is SW Ohio and all my Buckeye friends have conveniently avoided talking about football at all...
September 13th, 2021 at 8:24 PM ^
This probably isn't helping matters either...
September 13th, 2021 at 9:18 PM ^
Almost care enough to read that (because eff Zach Smith), just not quite enough to sign up for an account in order to do so. Stupid 2020s internet.
September 14th, 2021 at 2:42 AM ^
There is a small 'close' box at the top of their sign up speil. There's nothing new in the report, though.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:45 PM ^
They are mentally unstable. I actually fear for someone’s life the day they lose to Michigan or don’t win a big 10 title.
September 13th, 2021 at 10:00 PM ^
So true but I really really want to see what happens if they go like 8-4 with a loss to Michigan. It would truly be fascinating.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:38 PM ^
I feel bad that you live outside of Columbus. My son goes to school nearby and every time I visit him, it's impossible to escape BuckeyeFever. It's everywhere.
September 14th, 2021 at 2:45 AM ^
That would be horrible. I'd move. I take that back, I'd never have moved there in the first place ?
September 13th, 2021 at 10:15 PM ^
Lol at their fans losing their shit over a non conference loss to a top 15 team. OH MY GOD WE SHOULD WIN EVERY GAME WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE THIS?
