Not much else to add, commentary-wise to this growing list of atrocities being committed at two of the Big Ten's most esteemed institutions.

The more heads that roll for this, the better. Tear down statues, empty the endowment, do whatever it takes.

Yep, save the money on the undergrad stuff. Psych 101 is Psych 101 everywhere. Unless they want a major that is demonstrably better or has more extensive co-op / internship opportunities at Pricey College, there's little reason to spend the money.

UC seems to be a destination school for kids that dont get in to OSU main campus and local Cincy kids as opposed to the step up you seem to be implying. i have two in undergrad currently and i will say to the best of my knowledge without exception the only friends of theirs that went to UC were those that didnt get into osu main.  OSU main admissions standards have changed greatly in the last 30 years...

According to my cousins, UC has a far greater network and pull outside Ohio and the Midwest compared to OSU.  My cousins' kids unfortunately don't have the academics to go to either Oberlin to Kenyon, so they are looking for a good school that can eventually get them to a Chicago (or west coast).  OSU is not a good school in the regard.  Maybe in Chicago, but the network drops significantly outside that area.

You seem to have a real hard on against OSU.. which... whatever, nothing I say can possibly sway your opinion.

As for your cousins, if one of the largest alumni bases in the world doesn't extend out of Ohio for them (?), check out Miami U. Outside of Cleveland and Cincy, Chicago was probably the third largest home base for most of the students, I still have plenty of friends from college that moved back there.

Um…you’re on a Michigan blog, so what do you expect?! Seriously?! Your lackluster OSU education in deductive reasoning is really showing. Haha!

Listen, you can get a good education from many different sources, including colleges such as Michigan, OSU, MSU, etc. But some schools open doors that others don’t. Unless the hiring manager is an OSU grad or you are somewhere in Ohio (or a couple select towns in the midwest) having OSU on your resume is not opening a lot of doors. Period.  Is OSU “elite” in any academic program? Possibly maybe.

OSU is like the largest university in the nation and yet it can barely crack the top 25 in endowment, which means OSU grads either are not generous or (on average) don’t make enough money.

Lastly, from all my family in Ohio who are big OSU fans, their fandom is almost entirely predicated on how good the football is. That’s it! They never talk about the academic rigor or employment opportunities that come from going to OSU. Which is why many of them are OSU fans, but know better than to actually go there if they value opportunities outside of Ohio.

Glad you said it for me… “you’re lackluster education’… sigh.. if you’re going to insult someone, I would think you’d know the difference between “your” and “you’re”.

Also.. I went to Miami University, not OSU… I’m just a fan of OSU athletics.

I suspect this scandal continues to get neatly placed under the carpet.  For some unfathomable reason, Jim Jordan is a popular US Representative and will have some allies in key spots to dig whatever holes are needed.

"For some unfathomable reason ..."

If his popularity isn't fathomable to you, I'd suggest getting out more. People love that numskull because he indulges all their worst impulses. He's not the only one and the phenomenon is not specific to a particular political tribe.

You know what's really fucked up to think about?  Strauss and Anderson getting together at some doctors conference and comparing notes.

And Nassar.

It seems that the issue is that people put trust in doctors - which normally makes perfect sense - but then when's a predator in that position, everyone ends up enabling them because they assume there must be a valid medical reason for what they're doing ("Well, he's an M.D, not me...").

Pelvic Floor Therapy/Manipulation is a legitimate treatment in Osteopathic Medicine that has been written about and studied in medical journals. In Nassar's case, there is no denying that there were gymnasts who said that Nassar helped them.  That "validity" is a big part of the reason he was enabled.

bill simmons used to talk about the "tyson zone" - my memory of it was the idea that there were very, very few things you might hear about mike tyson that would truly surprise you.

major-college athletic departments have officially entered a tyson zone of sorts - i can't think of a single athletic department where i'd be surprised by a horrific sexual predation scandal.

burn it all down, example number eleventy billion.

jim jordan might want to start wearing a jacket, before he starts wearing an orange jumpsuit.

(yes, i know this is a huge exaggeration.  he presumably didn't do anything more than just ignore it while it was happening.  but the thought sending him to prison is an unmitigated delight.)

Try all three major universities (I still count PSU). How the F is this so common? It makes me wonder how ubiquitous it is everywhere, if this sample is reflective of the general population. It’d be weird if it were somehow selected for by university staffs. It clearly is in the Catholic Church, but that makes at least some sense to me. I guess the key is: access to young people alone - so maybe it really is just this common everywhere.

Universities, high schools, elementary schools and everything in between. The various Scouts organizations, churches (BTW, Protestants every bit as much as Catholics), clowns, day care and foster homes. Work and business environments, too.  It can happen pretty much anywhere that proper safeguards aren't in place.

Sad and pathetic no matter where and how it happens.
