One-time Michigan commit Eric Gray (Tennessee RB) in the portal
Was decent in his two years in Knoxville. Since we lost Charbonnet, should we take a swing here, or is he damaged goods?
2019 4-star RB Eric Gray has entered the transfer portal after totaling 1,311 yards and 8 TD at Tennessee; also 43 rec for 369 yards and 3 TD receiving @rivalsmike @RivalsWoody @Volquest_Rivals https://t.co/zcaigc04hu

So is Crouch. . .

I want Quavaris, not his cousin Barty, Jr.

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire for the win!!!

And Crouch and To’oo’oo or however you spell his name and others.

Some of these kids may end up facing NCAA penalties if they are found guilty of accepting monies.

This is a phenomenal photo Putin. I don't know if you made it or found it on the web, either way bravo and +1.

He has a staff of KGB deepfake artists

Were any players from Ole Miss penalized? The players aren't gonna get in any trouble. Having said that, the main issue with Tennessee players might be credits transferring.
January 20th, 2021 at 7:18 PM ^
Holding the players accountable as well as the school could be a fix.
And I think the transfer portal is like the anus - it’s one way only and bad things happen if you try and reverse direction.
January 20th, 2021 at 7:22 PM ^
Well that's awfully close minded. It's 2021.

Somebody has lived a rather sheltered life
Eh Randall?

That's not what Nadine told Harold . . . for your benefit, Flagg.
January 20th, 2021 at 8:40 PM ^
I thought it was legal to take money, then end up playing at a different school (see Matheny Cleaves and others who accepted money from Ed Martin but never went to UofM).
January 20th, 2021 at 6:34 PM ^
I've been extremely critical of Harbaugh's roster management and I think the number of transfer losses have been a real problem.
And Charbonnet not working out isn't good. But a major reason he isn't working out is because we have a loaded RB room and he simply wasn't separating himself on the field. And he started out as a co-equal starter (people can argue whether that was a good idea, but nobody can seriously argue that Charbonnet deserved more carries over the other guys).
And we've got more guys coming in.
We don't need Gray, frankly.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:36 PM ^
Or do we? With Charbonnet and Turner leaving, we'll have two scholarship RBs next year that are not true freshmen.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:48 PM ^
Most kids don't transfer to places with lots of competition at their position. Even if we stand pat with this group of backs, half of them will probably transfer at some point. It's just the way of the world right now.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
Haskins, Corum, Edwards to name a few... We will be okay.
January 20th, 2021 at 7:11 PM ^
Both true freshman are enrolled early if that helps soften the blow
January 20th, 2021 at 9:12 PM ^
RB is one of the few positions where age and class is less relevant. Same at any level.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:48 PM ^
While it has been said that we have a "loaded" running back room, I do not see how one can describe it as "loaded" when it only has 4 players in it, two being freshman.
Unfortunately one or two will miss games due to injuries.
If anything, I feel we are short on RBs.
I think Charbonnet wanted to be the number one back and that was unlikely.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:58 PM ^
We all know Harbaugh has 1-2 linebackers ,he will convert to RB-FB every year
January 20th, 2021 at 6:53 PM ^
I think Charbonnet should've looked at his injury history the past couple years and thanked Harbaugh that his workload has been limited since the Army game. Najee Harris was a 5-star stud and he shared the rock until his junior year. Two years later, he's on the verge of being 1st round pick.
January 20th, 2021 at 7:05 PM ^
It seems like we have a decent stable of RB's, but I would much rather have one separate himself and be the 3 down back.
It seems like we telegraph running plays sometimes with who is in the backfield. Each RB seems to have a book of plays that is a "tell" for the defense. Corum isn't going to most likely run in between the tackles, etc.
January 20th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
Absolutely this. Playcalling has been very predictable relative to who is on the field since, Jedd? That's a great thing if the other thing can't stop it because it can setup some false tendencies to break in tight games, but sadly, that's not the case here.
January 20th, 2021 at 8:19 PM ^
nobody can seriously argue that Charbonnet deserved more carries over the other guys
Uhhh how so? Charbonnet averaged double the YPC as Corum and Evans. Idk how you can argue that they deserved carries over Charbonnet. Corum deserved some gadget plays, but I honestly don't think Evans did anything to deserve his carries besides having seniority
January 20th, 2021 at 9:16 PM ^
Take out his single 70-yard TD run against Minnesota and his YPC drops below 3.
January 21st, 2021 at 7:36 AM ^
On 18 carries! They barely played a season and the offense couldn't stay on the field. I can't guarantee he's going to put up tons of yards elsewhere because that's dictated by the OL he has, but I don't think he was overrated as a recruit.
January 21st, 2021 at 8:07 AM ^
The 1-2 punch of Haskins and Charbonnet in 2019 was very good. Can't figure why that didn't continue in 2020.
January 21st, 2021 at 9:25 AM ^
I would assume he is transferring because he has been passed up on the depth chart and Edwards is coming in too.
January 21st, 2021 at 12:31 PM ^
Hey Jeff! I saw you reached out to Jeremy (EastCoast) in the kidney donation thread (I'm the donor) about possibly using our story for UNOS's website/marketinge/etc. and I wanted to follow up and continue this convo via email.
I tried to do some light LinkedIn stalking to message you but didn't want to message the wrong Jeff (it appears there are at least two of you). Anyways, shoot me a note at david dot heal at gmail dot com if you're still interested in chatting with me or Jeremy or the recipient.

There are questions about his eligibility. It would be something to lose the same player twice due to recruiting violations that your school took no part in.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:47 PM ^
....that would be Pure Michigan!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see half of UTs roster in the portal soon if they aren’t already.

January 20th, 2021 at 6:44 PM ^
I would be surprised if Gray is eligible. I don’t fault him at all but he definitely received money. I’ve seen other people suggest Crouch, and he might be worth a look as a linebacker because Michigan could use some depth there. I’m not sure how involved Crouch it, but Gray is probably better left alone.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:57 PM ^
Henry To'o'to'o is in the portal as well and he is one HELL of a player as is Grey.
However, any player from Tennessee probably should be vetted a bit, even if, as far as I am concerned, whatever fault here there is lies with the coaches and the boosters handing out the McDonald's bags and not the players themselves.
January 20th, 2021 at 7:36 PM ^
I might be in the minority with this thought, but I don’t think you can let the players go without punishment if they were in the wrong. They obviously know that taking a bag full of cash is wrong, if taking the cash wasn’t wrong they wouldn’t hide it in a McDonald’s bag. I know not everyone’s situation is the same and the impermissible benefits are taken for different reasons, but they still know it’s wrong when they do it.
January 20th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Yeah that’s why I think they should be vetted. Still it’s hard for me to say that if I was a prospect that that kind of thing would not be tempting. The only thing that would have kept me from accepting the offer would have been my parents and my grandparents having my ass. Kids took the money sure and knew it was against the rules as well and there probably should be some consequences. I’m just saying I place more of the blame on the boosters/coaches.
January 20th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
I agree with you on this. The coaches/boosters definitely deserve more of the blame here, but there should be consequences for the players as well. When I was looking at colleges I was offered money, I’m sure it was nothing like they’re getting here, it’s exceptionally hard to turn away. There’s all kinds of reasons to take the money, doesn’t make them bad people at all.

I’ve got an coffee can full of old coins including a few Indian head pennies and some Buffalo nickels. Can we get him on campus?
