Chris Balas reporting OSU game canceled
December 8th, 2020 at 1:23 PM ^
Hopefully the team and players get healthy with no implications!
December 8th, 2020 at 2:32 PM ^
No, see you're not understanding me, they wouldn't dare get sick just to cancel this game, you know, because of the implication...they're way out in the middle of Columbus with no where to go.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:23 PM ^
Xmas came early.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:29 PM ^
This is a pathetic line of thinking. Even if we were going to get smacked, I'd rather play and put up a fight if possible. I understand that health concerns are the issue here, so it's a good thing the game has been canceled. Being happy to avoid that game is shitty fandom.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:30 PM ^
While I appreciate the sentiment I don't think we would put up much of a fight at all! It's very likely that Dan villari would have gotten the start at quarterback. And we would have been in the wildcat a lot of the game. 70-0 would not have even been that bad of an outcome if we played.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:35 PM ^
But imagine the legend Dan Villari would write for himself if he walked into Columbus as a 3* true freshman and led this putrid team to a win against OSU. Disney would have to buy the rights to the story immediately.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:36 PM ^
That would be awesome! Unfortunately I think you could replace the word imagine with the word fantasize and that would be a much more accurate description of what I would have to do.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:37 PM ^
Step aside 'Rudy' - 'Dan' is the new movie du jour for 2020's feel good genre!!
December 8th, 2020 at 1:39 PM ^
And Rudy from Notre Dame still has eligibility and could have been drafted.....
Well, plenty of time now to work on the 2021 Annual Michigan International Football Trip and Safari.....
December 8th, 2020 at 1:43 PM ^
Putrid team, eh? Team > fans.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:32 PM ^
Harbaugh's teams haven't really put up much of a fight against OSU
December 8th, 2020 at 2:04 PM ^
No different this year, regardless.
December 8th, 2020 at 2:56 PM ^
That is not true at all, and you know it.
December 8th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
Not the last couple of years and this year would have been the biggest beatdown of all - we were 29 point underdogs
December 8th, 2020 at 7:13 PM ^
But that isn't what he said, is it?
December 8th, 2020 at 1:37 PM ^
We don’t need another hero....
December 8th, 2020 at 1:38 PM ^
Chris Ash former Rutgers HC was on the Ohio staff not too long ago. Some of his former colleagues there remember 78-0 and want to score at least 79. True. Payback is a bitch.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:42 PM ^
I know they're a bit of an afterthought, but I expect that the kids might, too.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:44 PM ^
Put up a fight? I take it you haven’t watched any games since Minnesota . . . this team has laid down against every team with a pulse.
December 8th, 2020 at 2:06 PM ^
Before the outbreak within the team, you had:
Joe Milton (hurt)
Cade McNamara (hurt)
Jalen Mayfield (hurt)
Ryan Hayes (hurt)
Giles Jackson (hurt)
Cam McGrone (hurt)
Aiden Hutchinson (hurt)
Brad Hawkins (hurt)
Andrew Vastardas (hurt)
These are players that didn't play the previous week. Not knowing what other injuries we have sustained. This is before Covid has taken more players out of the equation. What reason in the world would playing this game benefit Michigan, OSU, the rivalry or anyone involved? Nothing good comes from playing this game. There is no chance in hell of an upset.
December 8th, 2020 at 2:19 PM ^
Y'know, I hate the 'No true Scotsman' line of fandom. I've seen Don Brown's defense get destroyed enough times. I love this team and have watched through thick and mostly thin and I am happy I won't have to watch another ass-beating this year for a change
December 8th, 2020 at 6:15 PM ^
You and I are kindred spirits my friend. Thank you for saying that. Fans like that drive me cray cray. It must be so fun for them to watch UM get steamrolled.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:38 PM ^
ldevon1, please, please don't take the Christ out of Christmas.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
“In the Greek alphabet, X is the symbol for the letter 'chi. ... In the early days of the Christian church, Christians used the letter X as a secret symbol to indicate their membership in the church to others. If you know the Greek meaning of X, Xmas and Christmas essentially mean the same thing: Christ + mas = Christmas.”

I learned this same information from the Sounds of the Seasons channel. The more you know!
Really hope they don’t cancel. This game is the standard by which the season is measured. If it’s a drubbing, so be it. But at least it is a chance to rescue a season.
December 8th, 2020 at 2:28 PM ^
Haha... that's just typing with as few letters as needed on my phone.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:58 PM ^
LMAO!!! I love it. I agree too. I would rest much easier knowing that we're not walking head-on into possibly the worst loss in UoM football history.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:24 PM ^
Official by the University now
December 8th, 2020 at 1:35 PM ^
Interesting statement, "We have not been cleared to participate in practice at this time..."
I drove by yesterday around 5:30 p.m. and the team was out practicing. The number of players didn't look materially different from what I've seen any other typical fall day.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:40 PM ^
The team had limited workouts yesterday. However Angelique was reporting that the number of players practicing were severely limited.
In addition she's reporting that they had 3 new covid cases yesterday. Based on Big Ten Rules, there's no way Michigan would be allowed to play.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:41 PM ^
That is as official as it gets. This puts makes the B1G in a decision to put OH State in the championship game at Indy or not. Alvarez has stated they can amend their 6 game eligibility rule so we shall see.
As a fan, I am glad this game won't be played. I understand the student-athlete aspect and the right to compete and I respect that.
Better luck next year Michigan fans.

If Bo was alive would this game be canceled?
December 8th, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
Yes. Health and safety does not care if you are a legend
December 8th, 2020 at 2:12 PM ^
Bo ... a true legend ... to an aging subset of Washtenaw County.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:26 PM ^
Who cares?
December 8th, 2020 at 1:27 PM ^
Lots of scenarios to ask about but the simplest answer is, yes.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:27 PM ^
I can't tell if this is a joke, a dig at the current state of the program, an insinuation that Bo had the ability to control a pandemic, or something else. If it's a joke, good one!
December 8th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
NO!! And if HE were here, he'd consume OSU with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:45 PM ^
Remember when men were men and demigods were liable to straight up incinerate people who followed health and safety protocols. Damn kids these days.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:46 PM ^
We will run. And we will live!
December 8th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
Was Bo an epidemiologist too?
Christ even the vaunted OSU had to cancel a game due to Covid, and were lucky to even get to play against MSU. Day had to quarantine for 10 days after testing positive.
Just a general comment to the board...can we keep criticism of everything Michigan related in the realm or reality? That there's a global pandemic raging with record case numbers right now, and maybe just maybe shit happens and not everything is Harbaugh or Warde's fault?
December 8th, 2020 at 2:04 PM ^
And an Antonym shall come forth, speaking the truth...
December 8th, 2020 at 1:30 PM ^
If Michigan listened to Bo over the medical professionals regarding COVID than this school is screwed far deeper than the football program.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:34 PM ^
He’s dead. Let his ghost die already.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:47 PM ^
If this was the Spanish Flu, would the game be canceled?
Well, no, actually, it wasn't. Michigan won 14-0 to finish an unbeaten 5-0 season and claim a national championship.
There are so many parallels between 1918 and 2020, although '18 had the added stress of a World War.
Before the football season began, a rumor spread that football would be abandoned for 1918. The university decided to proceed with the football season, though war-time restrictions limited travel and practice time. To compensate for the players serving in the military, the existing prohibition on freshman players was lifted for the year.
As originally adopted, Michigan's 1918 schedule included games against Cornell (at Ithaca), Northwestern (at Ann Arbor) and Minnesota (at Ann Arbor). Those games, and planned replacement games against Camp Custer and the University of Mount Union, were cancelled. Travel restrictions resulted in cancellation of the Cornell and Minnesota games, and the 1918 flue pandemic forced the cancellation or rescheduling of other games. After Cornell cancelled its game, Syracuse was put on the schedule in its place.
This time around, it's the right call to cancel.
December 8th, 2020 at 2:07 PM ^
Our medical knowledge in 1918 was pretty limited. The first flu vaccine didn't even exist until 1937.
Back then there wasn't a whole bunch you could do except be careful and ride it out. There was no vaccine coming to help you. Today, if we are just patient and careful, everything should be able to get back to normal by next fall or so.
December 8th, 2020 at 2:52 PM ^
There are so many parallels between 1918 and 2020 ...
And one of the biggest is that Harbaugh is using the same offense.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
Good.
December 8th, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
thank god! Now let's move on to some announcements on contracts, coordinators, and recruits!
