Michigan Football Pausing In-person Team Activities
November 30th, 2020 at 11:14 AM ^
This is the right move.
Just end the season now, please.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
Sounds like solid game prep for the next 2 weeks
November 30th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
Doing this a week too soon.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:48 AM ^
*3 months
November 30th, 2020 at 11:15 AM ^
They realize they’re going to get blasted the next 2 games so they’re shutting it down.
November 30th, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
Dabo has something to say about that .
November 30th, 2020 at 11:16 AM ^
Laying the groundwork for ducking osu in a couple weeks. Smartest thing Harbaugh’s done in several years.
November 30th, 2020 at 12:04 PM ^
They not only avoid an embarrassing loss but guarantee OSU missing the title game and the playoff!
-win-win
November 30th, 2020 at 12:23 PM ^
I have a feeling this is just the beginning for all of CF. I look for Covid to blowup in the next couple of weeks - especially after all of the Thanksgiving travelling and dinners. Who knows now if there will even be a CF playoff down the road or if there is, what it will look like ? We just need to put an asterisk on this season and keep our fingers crossed that we turn the corner in 2021
November 30th, 2020 at 9:58 PM ^
I just saw a graphic that showed the highest amount of covid cases in one month . It was October with almost 200,000 cases.
The new record is November , well over 400,000 cases .
So , yes things arent getting any better .
Lets hope the vaccines get out quickly , so we can end this nightmare .
November 30th, 2020 at 11:16 AM ^
Good thing for student health... ...and I was going to say bad thing for performance on the field, but, honestly, will anyone be able to tell?
November 30th, 2020 at 11:16 AM ^
I DO hope everyone is healthy/ok - but maybe we WON'T give up 70 points to OSU this year....
November 30th, 2020 at 11:28 AM ^
OSU is likely to score TDs on EVERY possession. Heaven forbid. Not playing this game would be a huge blessing.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:39 AM ^
I actually would be fine if it was only 70 this year.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:50 AM ^
I was thinking about that this morning. Imagine the scenario where OSU doesn't play MSU this week because their own outbreak and resume to play UM in two weeks. OSU is out of the B1G championship picture, but needs to impress to make the CFP. I think them scoring 100 might legitimately be on the table. Only thing that would stop them would be not getting enough possessions.
November 30th, 2020 at 3:12 PM ^
I think they could pull it off against this D.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:16 AM ^
Still maintain this is so Harbaugh can go interview with the Lions... wish the last thread didn't get nuked the joke was funnier the first time around.
November 30th, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
Yes, what better way to quietly interview with the Lions - which aren't even an hour away - than draw national attention on yourself by fabricating a positive COVID test
November 30th, 2020 at 11:17 AM ^
Thank God.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:18 AM ^
Only fair, since they paused blocking and tackling weeks ago.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:22 AM ^
Now that's a great comment.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:23 AM ^
VLad.... you clever kgb agent..... now i know what W saw when he looked into your eyes...
November 30th, 2020 at 11:39 AM ^
Rarely do I ever literally LOL at poster’s comments, but this one did. Good one.
November 30th, 2020 at 1:44 PM ^
Has the team practiced in pads at all this year? All indications are they haven't.
November 30th, 2020 at 2:11 PM ^
You win the internet today Puti, nicely done.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:19 AM ^
Look at us, maybe going to knock osu out of the big ten championship game
*(by basically forfeit)
November 30th, 2020 at 11:39 AM ^
BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
November 30th, 2020 at 12:27 PM ^
Doubtful. B1G has a stipulation in its rules for this year that states if the season finishes with the average games per team at 6.49 or less, the 6 game requirement is null and any team with at least 4 games would be eligible for the B1G championship. League average is 5.14 games per team right now and falling fast. However, this might knock OSU out of CFP consideration. But if OSU stays idle for the next 2 weeks and games keep getting cancelled league wide, they're in the B1G Championship game at the very least.
November 30th, 2020 at 12:32 PM ^
Here's a link to the rule if anyone is curious. 2nd paragraph https://s3.amazonaws.com/bigten.org/documents/2020/10/22/2020_Big_Ten_Football_Tiebreakers.pdf
November 30th, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
Regardless of the rules they put in place. They will find a way to get OSU in the Big Ten Championship game .
November 30th, 2020 at 11:21 AM ^
So, in conclusion, playing the season was a stupid choice for all parties involved unless you're Indiana.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:25 AM ^
Yeah but at least some coaches, players and parents got to look like a bunch of total bad asses for 5 minutes by talking shit to a pandemic.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:31 AM ^
Not to mention the season ending injuries across the league. Penn State's entire backfield, Friermuth, Hutchinson, etc. Also Ryan Day, Mertz, and tons of other players got a disease in which we have no idea what the lasting effects are.
Our reward for charging forward into playing in a pandemic is the worst Michigan team in a decade, a snapped Indiana win streak that will never be replicated, and a loss to the worst MSU team (in five years, lol 2016 MSU). But hey, at least we beat a bad Minnesota team and got to watch Rutgers choke on their own vomit against us
November 30th, 2020 at 11:40 AM ^
FYI.. Penix is now out for the year, so you can add him to the list of season ending injuries.
December 1st, 2020 at 1:38 PM ^
We found out just how completely incompetent this coaching staff is. That's worth something at least.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:21 AM ^
Paused due to presumptive ass whippings by Maryland and Ohio State.
FIFY
November 30th, 2020 at 1:04 PM ^
Maybe. But the bright side: we stop our losing streak to OSU. Go us !!!!!
November 30th, 2020 at 11:21 AM ^
it would be a crying friggin' shame if we couldn't play the next two weeks and the big ten had to re-write the rules to allow The ohio state penitentiary to play in the big 10 championship.....
And you know GD well they would!
November 30th, 2020 at 11:22 AM ^
Well they’ve already been pausing their participation in actual games since the Minnesota win, so it’s only logical that they’d eventually come to the conclusion to just shut it all down.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:24 AM ^
This is a much more informative OP than the previous one on a similar topic that got nuked.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:25 AM ^
Didn't hear this before the Insider show ended so perhaps social media info.
Hate to say it but this would be welcome news. I'd welcome the end of this nightmare football season.
Just think, We'll ruin OH State's eligibility to play in the B1G conference title game. That would be a big win for us.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:32 AM ^
yeah, obvious "I hope everyone comes out healthy" disclaimer, but this could be a blessing. If the last games get nuked soon, there is no reason to delay an extension (please no) or an announcement that he is stepping down (no way he gets fired). Could move things forward a bit to help out recruiting, not that one recruiting class should matter at all, but it would be nice to keep JJ at least.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
I should have, and meant to mention that I hope any of our COVID positive players come out healthy.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:27 AM ^
Looks like we finally found a way to stop Ohio State!
In all seriousness though, I hope all those who have and will test positive have speedy recoveries and no long term health issues.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:28 AM ^
Well, I guess the Minnesota game was fun to watch. This season was always going to be a mess, but holy shit, what a disaster. Hopefully the spread isn't too bad and everyone comes out ok.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
Shut the season DOWN. We have no inclination or reason to carry this busted train wreck any further. I have absolutely no problem with the Administration tactically dismantling the season via covid. We, as fans, would be gluttons for punishment if we truly want to see these kids keep getting punished. In no world do I want my Christmas Holiday launched under the doom of a Dec 12th OSU booty-diddling.
Edit: I in no way wish any harm to our beloved team/staff. Even though my fist waves feverishly at Harbaugh for all of eternity, I want for and wish everyone (including the MGO family) nothing short of a very healthy and enjoyable end-of-year with your families. The preemptive me says to not take a chance and shut it all down for the season. Someone already mentioned the added bonus of pre-booty-diddling OSU by ruining their season, before they can get us. Best of wishes on the year and beyond to you all.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
I know the kids generally fare better with COVID, but I still don't want them getting sick just to avoid OSU.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:36 AM ^
Pretty certain the assumption is not that we're purposely infecting players, but just acting "out of an abundance of caution." Saying that the linebackers were in close contact with a classmate who got COVID so they can't practice, etc. Wisconsin pulled the same shit where they were eligible to play after their opening game but chose not to because so many of their best players were out. Pretty much a fuck you to the Big Ten and school presidents who had 6 plus months to work out a reasonable plan for playing safely and settled on a plan that punished teams for missing 3 games, essentially guaranteeing the situation we have now: OSU is full of COVID and will do anything they can to play, and OSU's rivals are choosing to cancel the game just to screw them over. Well done, big ten, I really couldn't have expected less from you.
November 30th, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
And so it begins
