Michigan Football Parents Rally at the Stadium this Saturday. [locked]

Submitted by Go Blue Eyes on September 2nd, 2020 at 2:38 PM

In normal circumstances I would already be in Seattle waiting for the season opener against Washington this Saturday.  But now I am attending a rally in support of the Michigan football team this Saturday at the Big House instead.  Starts at 1PM at the tunnel.

[ locking this up, and after a quick skim through the first half-page, I'd expect a couple bannings, maybe more]

Of course the players want to play, and of course the parents want their sons to play. Everyone *wants* them to play. School administrators decided that even with all of that, all the money they'd lose, all the disappointment, that it wasn't safe to play.

I don't know who this is supposed to convince, or what it's supposed to convince them of, but go do it if you want to.

Everybody wants to play football.  These rallies are pointless.  They do nothing to address the reason we’re not playing football and in fact just ignore them.  I can’t wait to read another parent quote along the same lines as the mom at the Big-10 headquarters rally, “The turnout would have been bigger if not for the pandemic.”

Truly astonishing.... Get upset about Michigan fans and families coming out to support the squad (and they want to play). Michigan football has no confirmed cases since their testing began... but I'm sure if they wanted to go burn down a city or throw rocks at police or stage a BLM protest 80% of this board would be setting up go fund me pages and links on where to meet.

What’s truly astonishing is that they believe this will make a bit of difference.

Also, throwing rocks at police is a lot more important right now than football. Everybody should get bigger rocks. Because fuck em.

Hahah you should get banned but I’m sure your the mods butt buddy. Anyone else would get banned for far less .. but I digress. Maybe you should try practicing what you preach , but you’re a pansy. Probably think the rioters are just “getting bread and groceries” to help their families !

Banned for what? Saying fuck the police? Encouraging violence against them? They deserve it. I’m not sure what reality you’re in. I think I can tell by your incorrect use of punctuation and your racial and homophobic subtext though.

Yup hahaha exactly why you should be banned. People get banned for saying much less on this site. I think your feelings about recent events with police obscure your brain from looking at the facts. What’s going to happen with the DAs Fail to bring charges in these cases because they’re justified shoots ? And yeah punctuation on a blog , while I’m out and about using my phone. Probably the last thing I care about. By you’re rather abrasive rhetoric towards police  and holier than thou posts I could guess you’re probably a beta male cuck that will be voting for Biden in 2020!? I’m just spit ballin’

JBE.  It's obvious you are riled up.  But do you really mean this?  Encourage violence against the police because they deserve it?

I think this is the kind of sentiment from both sides that makes talking to the other side pretty much impossible.  You cannot have a sensible, solution-finding discussion because someone points to the minority extremist who says we should be violent against the side we don't agree with.

I guess I'm asking you to hold your position but walk back from the encouragement of violence.

I mean, no this isn't the place for that. But this isn't the place for a lot of discussions (and worse) that happen here all the time. Our President has advocated violence plenty of times, publicly, but towards a different subset of people than the police. Which of us should be arbiter?

No kidding, this is some shit. JBE advocates for assaults on police officers and his account is still here? It does look like one comment has been edited, but still, ban the obvious troll I get, but you can't have people advocating violence against people and just leave the account going.

JBE and Twanny69, you're both gone.

JBE for promoting violence and then doubling-down; Twanny69 for going full-troll on the MGoBoard as soon as you signed up today.  I have little doubt you've been banned previously.

This fuckin guy/gal has it all goin on:

1. Strawmen, my god strawmen everywhere

2. Ad Hominem attacks

3. Homophobic attacks

4. Constant, inane, uncontrolled laughing

5. 69 in the username. Nice.

6. False equivalence fallacies ("both sides") arguments

Did I miss anything?

You're conflating issues here. I don't think people in this thread are annoyed at the protesting because it will be unsafe. There haven't been documented outbreaks from outdoor, masked protests which it seems like this will be.

But way to show your ass, thanks for that.

Hahaha hasn’t been documented cases !? Are you that dumb or just naive (because you want to be right so bad ). If you truly cared about people’s health you wouldn’t promote or back any protests. Because that would exposing far too many people to Covid. I get it , orange man bad , football bad , going out to dinner to help local businesses bad. But protesting and destroying your own city , good. Nice to see where you stand bud.

Couldn't agree more with this perspective.  Maybe go down and listen to hear what they (the players) have to say.  If only 20 or 30 people show up then maybe the commentators above are correct.  I don't see anything wrong with people getting together to express their viewpoints in a peaceful way.  At least give them a chance to be heard in a very public forum.

And just to be clear, my comments are to TwannySpecial69.

Well yeah, one’s a civil rights issue. The other one is just football. The fact that you somehow equate the two shows your lack of critical thinking ability.

Either way, idc if people gather. Just be socially distant, isolate afterwards and wear a fucking mask is all I ask. After that it’s up to the individual to ascertain risk. I’ve had a few pts on vents for life bc some family member gave them COVID since they didn’t care and now it’s the doctors’ fault for not having a magic pill.

*facepalm*

I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy of everyone on this board , as well as the politicians in liberal states. Protesting in support of a football season when all available data suggests it’s safe(bad .. Everyone is a cooler pooper , illogical ...orange man bad !). But protesting and destroying your own city good ! I’m with you , wearing a mask is the respectful thing to do but i think you’re just oblivious to your own biases.

Hahaha great response ... nothing I said was factually incorrect. We haven’t won anything since 2003 .. maybe I could root for a winner. But here I am , still rooting for the best team in America with the worst fan base ?. It’s kind of sad when the politics on your favorite board is driving me further away from U of M. I’ll be back though on 11/3 to see all your heads exploding!

Guys everyone wants to play sports but that's not how 2020's going. Save your Saturday afternoon and don't bother. 40 people showing up at Stadium & Main isn't changing anything

Good luck to them.  Glad they can voice their opinions.  I do get a sense it's going to be a lot of "fans" and not a ton of players and parents, but so be it.

I don't know if UM has reported positive test rates yet but I know that both CMU and Adrian reported surges in positive cases when students got on campus, so I'd caution everyone coming to UM to be aware they are heading into a bit of a hotspot.

This is good.  These kids work hard.  They deserve to play and it would be nice for the fanbase to stand up and show some support.
