How do we beat Alabama?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on December 9th, 2019 at 11:22 AM

90% pass? The run game hasn’t come close to the ND game performance since, even against Maryland and putrid sparty.

If we win this will have to be a shootout.

Devise a gameplan.

"has had the same negative affect many warned about--devaluing all non playoff bowl games."

So you're saying that the Holiday Bowl in 1981 or 1999 was more esteemed and meaningful than the Holiday Bowl is today? Or the Peach Bowl? Gator Bowl? Independence Bowl? Sun Bowl? Outback Bowl? Liberty Bowl? Hall of Fame Bowl? Alamo Bowl? How often did those bowl games in the good ol' days help determine the national championship? A tiny handful of times over the past 50 years.

The notion that the playoffs have suddenly meant that all the other bowls are rendered meaningless as opposed to their hallowed former status is ahistorical bunk. In the good old days of 1972 or 1983 or 1994, there were a maximum of two or three bowl games that had tangible, real-world impact on the national championship, because just like today, there were just two or three truly viable candidates for a mythical national championship, and sometimes they were matched up in a bowl game against each other. ALL of the other bowl games were literally meaningless when it came to determining the national champion. It didn't prevent all those other bowl games from existing or from teams participating in them, some with great disappointment and others eager to prove a point.

What the Playoff has seemingly done, though, is make anybody who really does not care that much who the national champion is seem like some kind of alien or something.  If Michigan was in the Playoff, I would care about the Playoff a lot because that is where our games would be happening.  But since our game is happening at the Citrus Bowl, the Playoff can eat a dick.

I wanted a playoff. But now that we have one it makes all the other bowls seem devalued from what they were before, at least for me; and it seems for at least UM and Florida in the years we've played.

What I really dislike about the 4 game playoff is that there is no chance for a team hot at the end of the season to make a run. It doesn't happen often, probably be rare. But man would it be fun. And given that college teams can be emotionally driven more than NFL teams I think it would happen.

I'd rather see the bowls roped into an 8 game playoff. I'd like it more if there was a 12 game playoff.

I'm with you.  I'm not really into the Playoff.  Of course I would be if Michigan was playing in it due to intense rooting interest, but for fans of teams who are not in it the damn thing is just WAY overcooked.

Ohio State v. Clemson makes it into my Top 5 of games I am excited to watch this bowl season but only because of rivarly/conference interest with OSU.  Iowa v. USC, Michigan v. Alabama, Minnesota v. Auburn, Penn State v. Memphis, and f-ing Boise State v. Washington(the Las Vegas Bowl looks like a ton of fun) all slide in ahead of LSU/Oklahoma.

By January 13 I will be so far into college basketball that I won't even remember the damn thing is on.

There is nothing inherently special about LSU v. Oklahoma.(or any of the playoff games).  LSU looks really good but their out of conference was complete ass and they almost lost to a 5 loss Texas team.   The SEC does not play anybody out of conference so it is impossible to tell.  Oklahoma lost to fucking Kansas State and gave up 41 to them and Iowa State, and BIG 12 is trash to begin with.  This is not the culmination of a "tournament."  It is a game decided in some board room with a bunch of dudes just like the other bowl games.

No, I don't give a shit about LSU v. Oklahoma.  If I have a rooting interest in the CFP it is probably that OSU win the damn thing so we can stop hearing so much about ESS EE SEE every year.

Exactly- any reasonable fan wouldn't want to watch the best teams play the sport. Totally not intriguing.  One loss B12 winning Oklahoma is terrible and Utah and Oregon should have jointly been awarded the last spot, what a hack job by the committee.   I usually skip the superbowl, Stanley cup playoffs, and world series for the same reason. B.O.R.I.N.G.

Good post

I did not say that Oklahoma was terrible.  They just haven't looked very good.  And Clemson has not played a good football team all season.  Look, we can have different opinions.  I said that OSU v. Clemson was in my list of must see games, not sure why you are freaking.  LSU v. Oklahoma just doesn't do much for me.  I think Oklahoma is pretty regularly overrated and my guess is that LSU is going to take them to pound-town.

I fully support your boycott of viewing the height of talent in college football or any other sport.  I personally only watch horse races at the local track but refuse to watch any triple crown race. Total yawn fest.

I haven't watched the world series, superbowl, stanley cup finals, or NBA finals since Detroit hasn't made it.  Wait, nevermind, I'm a fan of the sport so I tune in to the pinnacle of competition because I'm not a weirdo/turd  :)

People ascribe so much meaning and reality to the little playoff section. The whole system was concocted out of thin air just a few years ago, after which there's a relentless media blitz about "who's in" every year, as if the overwhelming majority of programs have an honest shot or care two shits about who ends up in this final four.

They gave up the following point totals to these teams:

31 to Ole Miss (#69 SP+ offense)

28 to TAMU (#34 SP+ offense)

46 to LSU (#2 SP+ offense)

48 to Auburn (#38 SP+ offense) **There were two pick 6s

Other than LSU, Michigan's offense was much better than all of them. We finished #20, and that's when the dreadful first half of the season is included in the numbers. Over the last 5 games our offense was as potent as anyone's.

The point of what I posted above was to show that lesser teams have scored plenty against Bama. If our offense can put up 40 points and we can get their green QB to make a couple mistakes, we are in this thing.

1.) Throw the ball around and be aggressive offensively

2.) Get pressure on Mac Jones

3.) Make timely plays (interceptions, fumbles, etc.)

4.) Pray Bama is checked out since they're not in the playoff

JFW

I don't think Bama will be checked out.

I hope that our Seniors want to play to improve draft positions, so we aren't checked out.

I do think we should be loose. Because there isn't any downside. Get blown out? It sucks but won't surprise anyone. Go nuts and hang/win, you look good.

To build on what I said before, they should just come in and have fun. And that includes the staff. Run the transcontinental. Don't punt. Use run blitzes, Zone, and weird stuff you just thought up.

This game doesn't mean anything, so treat it that way and just have fun.

Do exactly what we did against OSU, but execute better (and maybe have some of Bama's draft eligible upperclassman sit out).

It'll look much like OSU I think. UM may find some early success throwing the ball, score a few points, but the moment they screw up a scoring opportunity the wheels will fall off. They will have pressure to score on nearly every possession.

Meanwhile, I expect the Alabama O line to pave the UM D line.

Hope that Bama doesn't want to be there and that a lot of players sit out the bowl game. Then, you may have a chance.

My advice is these boys better become magicians with untying shoes. I'd say practice all kinds of stuff to mix it up. Tie two different guys shoes together, tie one guys shoes to another dudes finger, etc. Get creative with you, you know? Hell tie one guys shoes to someone dreads. Don't hold anything back.

You don't.

But, glass half full, you can still make some money betting on Alabama! Then you can use that money to buy basketball tickets and watch a team that actually has a chance to make postseason noise.

December 9th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^

1) hope they have a lot of players sit out

2) hope they mail it in

3) pass like crazy because if we win, it's going to have to be like 42-38 or something like that.

ROFLMAO... such a garbage matchup!

Alabama aka, CFB juggernaut for the past decade, lightyears beyond our recruiting, having an off season... vs... Michigan a team rebuilding and suffering from severe BPONE, in every way possible. Yeah this sounds like an even matchup...

CFB would be much better served by an App St vs Michigan rematch; with their recruiting and talent being similar to ours and a historical reason for the rematch.

Another SEC dominated selection committee seeking to put B1G in the losing column. Auburn vs Minn?! ROFLMFAO (again)... Minn has NO CHANCE! Sorry to say neither does Michigan. Hell, even Auburn UM would be a better match.... Wisc vs Bama would be a better match...

Such incredible crap from these dolts on the selection committee. Lets not BS each other, Michigan beating Bama in a bowl game would be an UPSET of EPIC proportions at this point in time.

I'll take that as a compliment coming from an asshatt who drives around cutting people off on the roads, putting other people's lives in danger because he sees an OSU sticker on someone's car.

Yeah... ur a real fuckin' genius. If I ever see you/your car on the road I'll make sure to redirect your exhaust system to the cabin while you aren't looking.

I like that people take the time to neg even though the points don't work. It's like an extra effort of telling you your post sucked when they neg knowing it doesn't mean anything.

That said making vague reference to attempted murder probably violates something about something on here. Chill the f&ck out dude.

Hope that the buses break down somewhere on I-10 and they have to forfeit?

Oh, you were being serious? Uhh....hope to god that the game comes down to field goal kicking. If Saban's teams have one glaring weakness year after year, it's field goal kicking. They are somehow atrocious at it on a consistent basis.

don't let Najee Harris repeat the performance of whoever the cooler poopers put in at running back this year.  I forget his name and 10 days later I no longer care.
