MBB Update: UM wins "secret scrimmage" over UDM
A wins a win right?! Brendan Quinn reported on Michigan's closed scrimmage against UDM and Michigan came out ahead 82-75. Sounds like the starters were Z, Eli, NUNEZ!, Livers and Teske. The most exciting this I see here is DeJulius with 7 3's. Let's hope that's the turn we are looking for!
Update from Michigan's closed scrimmage vs. Detroit Mercy:

David DeJulius led U-M with 21 pts off the bench, making 7-8 3-ptrs. Jon Teske added 15 pts, 7 rebs, 5 assts. Isaiah Livers with 14 pts. Zavier Simpson with 7 pts, 7 rebs, 13 asts.

UDM is abbreviated for Kansas, right?

UDM is abbreviated for Kansas, right?
It's double super secret code for Dook, bro.

"Brandon Johns (sprained ankle) did not play for Michigan. I'm told he's on track to play in U-M's Nov. 5 opener against Appalachian State. If this had been a regular-season game, he would've suited up."
I would guess that's why Nunez was starting. For App St I would guess starters are Z-Eli-Livers-Johns-Teske.
That being said it's great to see DDJ play well. Him playing well is a major key for this offense performing at a high level this year, and a good sign for next year. Haven't seen any stats for Nunez yet but if he was the starter at 3 (sans Frans and Johns) I would assume that means he's ahead of Bajema and in line for rotation minutes at the 2/3. If he's a viable option that's another good sign for a team that needs shooting.

Can we just never schedule Appalachian State again ... in any sport.
October 25th, 2019 at 12:08 AM ^
I want them in football again.
Now that they are a top 25 team would be a good time to ruin their dreams and upset them.
October 25th, 2019 at 1:03 AM ^
Uhhh...what dreams would we be ruining?! There is 100% no way to ever bring equilibrium between us.
October 25th, 2019 at 9:38 AM ^
I would tend to agree. There's no way beating them in some game in the near future would ever make up for that game which I have blacked out of my memory but yet some people seem to think took place.
October 25th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
Quinn said Bajema was dealing with a hip flexor and that’s why he didn’t play.

5 assists for Teske and DDJ shooting like Steph Curry... I’m finna watch some Howard era hoops
October 25th, 2019 at 12:21 AM ^
+1 for the use of the word “finna”

13 assy's for Z....noice.
Yea...I shortened assists to assy's. Not gonna explain it again, get used to it folks.
October 25th, 2019 at 8:39 AM ^
Assy's, sounds like something I can really get behind.

For those feeling a bit panicked about the result, preseason basketball is extremely difficult to gauge. MSU lost to Grand Valley in 2007, then proceeded to make a Sweet 16 appearance.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:09 PM ^
Feeling panicked by a win? You know the pathetic fans around here far too well.
October 24th, 2019 at 10:17 PM ^
Even if we lost by 15 I would hope no one would be concerned. Above all else because it's a scrimmage. But beyond that:
We were down 2 potential starters (Johns and Wagner).
It's the first game this group has played together and the first "game" under Howard.
UDM probably had the best player on the court in Antoine Davis. He's the son of UDM head coach Mike Davis and averaged 26 points a game last year (38% from 3 on 11 attempts per game) as a true freshman.

Syracuse actually lost to the Globetrotters in their first game after their title run
October 25th, 2019 at 12:11 AM ^
what do expect when they have guys making hook shots from half court. how do you D up on that?
October 25th, 2019 at 1:07 AM ^
I thought it was Le Moyne?! (Not joking...)
Edit: on second thought that may have been one of their Final 4 (or just good Tourney team in general) team within the last 10 years.

Didn't Michigan lose to Toledo in a secret scrimmage a few years ago on the year they went to the National Championship game?

1st game depth-
1- Simpson / DDJ. 35-5
2- Brooks / DDJ. 20-20
3- Livers / Nunez. 20-20
4- Johns / Livers. 25-15
5- Teske / Castleton 30-10
Overall Minutes-
1. Simpson-35
2.Livers 35
3.Teske- 30
4. DDJ- 25
5. Johns 25
6.Brooks 20
7.Nunez - 20
8. Castleton- 10
October 24th, 2019 at 10:30 PM ^
I'd throw some of Nunez minutes to Bajema, especially early on

If things shake out like this for game 1, I’m curious what rotations will look like when Wagner returns. I wouldn’t mind seeing us have a deep and playable bench. JB always used 7 or 8 guys until crunch time/B1G ball and then you really saw the depth dwindle. Would love to see what happens if we can have 8-10 true contributors
October 24th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
When have michigan fans ever made rash decisions based on early season college basketball?? Basketball is a long season. We will be playing without Wagner or Johns for the month of November. Be patient!
October 24th, 2019 at 10:29 PM ^
Johns will play game 1 according to reports
October 24th, 2019 at 10:21 PM ^
7/8 3 ptrs. DD nice job!!

DeHOOOOOOLIOUS!!!!
I want the fans to yell this whenever he makes a three. Do it for Seth, please.

I'll admit it, I was shooketh when I saw that stat line. Especially when I also saw he made ONE 3 pointer all last year. If he's truly upped his game that much and it carries over, it could be massive for this season!
October 25th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
He was really good from 3 in high school and he could do it off the bounce too. Last year's sample size is really meaningless since most of it was just out-of-rhythm garbage time shots.

I’m excited to see what Howard can do. If he wins immediately the high end recruits are going to flood this program.
October 25th, 2019 at 7:25 AM ^
I'm shocked there isn't a 'Fire Howard' comment.
October 25th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
Fire Bakic.
October 25th, 2019 at 2:17 PM ^
Yeah, he's already shown he can get a big recruit. I've said it before, but if he's a half-way decent coach, he is going to be successful. If he can pull in some top recruits, he doesn't have to be the second coming of Beilein--he just has to be above-average.

I was and I still am hoping that Nunez will have a breakout sophomore campaign and provide consistent outside shooting, but it's great to hear that DDJ went 7-8, even if it was a scrimmage. This team will need outside shooting so badly since they struggled so much last year. MMB only added 2 wings, and I don't recall their profiles suggesting either as a knockdown shooter. To add to all that, the line is moving out.
Closing my eyes and wishing for the best!
