Snowflakes-Recruiting
While coaching and playcalling are responsible for about 60 percent of our woes, the failure to take a single DT in the 2018 class is a major red flag for our coaching staff. It is hard to match up against top tier teams with your best option being a converted fullback and true freshmen on the line. Two out of the past three recruiting classes are going to finish outside of the top 10. 2018 was ranked # 22 and 2020 could finish outside of the top 15 considering the fact that we are nearly full and teams will jump us this winter. We didn't replace Wheatley when he left and now it looks like we didn't do a very good job replacing Al Washington and Mattison on the trail.

News flash: Michigan isn't considered elite any more.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:00 AM ^
It’s fairly obvious that the 2018 recruiting class is absolute shit. Maizen was right and we should all accept it.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:19 AM ^
Hutchinson, Bell, and Gray are the only ones who have done anything this year.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:21 AM ^
But he’s a broken record asshole and fans have nothing to do with recruiting. Whining about 5 stars doesn’t change shit.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:23 AM ^
No but a coach who gets paid $8 million a year should be able to recruit 5-stars who can change the program. Bottom line is, Harbaugh’s recruits simply aren’t good enough to win with this coaching staff.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:34 AM ^
You’d have to be crazy to watch that game today and think, as a 5 Star, “that’s the place for me!”
September 22nd, 2019 at 8:25 AM ^
Wisconsin never gets 5 star recruits barely any 4 stars yet they pummeled us
September 22nd, 2019 at 7:24 AM ^
HMMMM ....do you think Greg Mattison knew something?
”This is the most microphones I have ever seen in my life,” he said while being interviewed after the OSU point explosion yesterday.
He said he can’t wait to get all the starters back when they are fully healthy and the team will be much stronger because of all the playing time the freshmen are getting now filling in....
September 21st, 2019 at 11:06 PM ^
Look at, and listen to the atmosphere of the Georgia game. Crowd is nuts, stadium lights go on and off, crowd engaged. The team feeds off that. There's no excitement inside Michigan stadium. Why would top recruits want to play there?
September 21st, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
You clearly weren't at the Wisconsin or PSU games last year.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
Both night games.
More night games!
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:31 AM ^
Penn State was 3:30
September 22nd, 2019 at 8:42 AM ^
You are correct. I live in Texas. But you clearly don't watch the Ohio state games in ann arbor. Too much red and louder fans than Michigan. There is not a home field advantage in Michigan as there is in too many other places around the country.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
We replaced Wheatley at RB coach with a guy who never played a down of college football or running back period for that matter and had no real staff jobs anywhere unless it was for family.
I'm sure Najee Harris was chomping at the bit to play for him. But no, I was shit on years ago for questioning him replacing someone who knows what the fuck they're doing with the opposite.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:10 PM ^
Mike Leach never played a down of college football.
Didn’t he land a 5 star RB just last year? Doesn’t UM have a 4 star currently committed?
September 21st, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
Mike Leach also had staff experience at small schools before he was coaching a Power 5 program, unlike Jay Harbaugh.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
We have a lot of problems. RB is not one of them
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:14 AM ^
I don’t know what game you watched, RB is definitely one of them.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:39 AM ^
Because we have a stud running back who averages 125 yards per game.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:12 PM ^
We're supposed to be a meritocracy but having Jay Harbaugh on staff, Hassan Haskins playing 1st half snaps and Quinn Nordin splitting kicks with Moody in the first two games makes me wonder if our number one goal is to make everyone happy.

I remember you getting blasted for that. I think you were right. If you want to hire your son, be my guest, but it should be in a supporting role, not as a position coach.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:38 AM ^
WD, I completely agree with you here. This is insane the jaybaugh is a position coach at Michigan fergodsakes!!! This is no different than that asshole jay paterno!!!
September 22nd, 2019 at 5:44 AM ^
Many of us have wondered if the best available coach is Jim's son...really?

Mike Hart says, "Hi!"
September 21st, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
Hopefully they can salvage something from the season and prevent some of the nicer pieces of the current class from defecting.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
Zero 5 stars. Not even in the running for any.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:08 AM ^
Harbaugh is the type of coach who needs elite talent to have success. He’s in year five with his recruits and the last five games with his recruits have been a disaster.
A team like Wisconsin can do more with less because Wisconsin has time to develop players. So far this season, Michigan’s best player on offense is Ronnie Bell who is three years away from being a backup for OSU. Also, you have Mayfield and Hayes starting when they have no business seeing the field at this time in their careers. Too many 3-stars are forced to play because there’s no other options. Need more time to develop players.
The recruiting has been average since Harbaugh has arrived. The top 10 classes have been quantity not quality.
By the way, OSU has recruited the top receiver out of Texas the last two years. Harbaugh is recruiting Paw Paw, MI.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:01 AM ^
This current class sucks as bad as 2018. Who cares.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
Go watch the talent at Georgia compared to our talent. It is laughable how far the gap has widened. That’s reason #1 we cannot beat Ohio State or any ranked team (with a pulse) on the road.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
We have talent, though...the talent gap was on our side in this game and in the last three games before it! This is mostly on coaching.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:45 PM ^
See 247’s team rankings for talent this year. I believe Michigan is #11. That much talent plus an elite staff should at least get you on the cusp of the playoff. Obviously we are missing the elite staff.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:41 AM ^
But we PAY like we have one.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:28 PM ^
Yea talent isnt the reason we lost this game
September 21st, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
We distinctly lacked talent on the defensive and offensive lines compared to Wisconsin. Our LB's were poor and our lack of talent depth at RB was clear.
Michigan fans are a bit delusional about our level of talent. Some talent, yes, but not everywhere and not nearly enough of it that should have been evident today.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:48 PM ^
Talent is NOT the reason we lose to OSU. If it were, then OSU would never lose to the likes of Purdue, Iowa, MSU or VaTech. But they do.
We lose to OSU because in the years that we aren’t being out-coached and out-worked, we shit ourselves and commit so many mental mistakes we literally hand OSU the game.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:11 AM ^
Talent is why they lose to OSU. Parris Campbell>Brandon Watson and Chase Young>our tackles. They aren't as dialed in when they play a non rival on the road as they are for their season ending game vs us.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
Devin Gil has some OSU film for you to watch
September 21st, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
Watching Georgia’s defense even the DTs look fast
September 21st, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
But Ben Mason has a Mohawk and screams and converted first downs that any competent fullback could last year. You mean he isn’t an elite talent? You mean an three star with huge numbers in the New Mexico peewee league isn’t a difference maker? Bullshit, you star gazer.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:22 PM ^
We should have hired Mike Hart for our running back coach. He loves Michigan. I think he would be an awesome recruiter. But no let’s give that job to my son Jay. I never liked that when Harbaugh put him there.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
Jay as a one year thing was ok - I think he was filling a spot where they failed to land someone initially. He should have moved on though.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:40 AM ^
If Jay was remotely skilled as a coach he would’ve been poached by another team for a promotion. Give him a different last name and he’s not even at Michigan.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:45 AM ^
You’re 100% correct, and everyone will agree after Harbaugh Sr gets fired.
September 21st, 2019 at 11:24 PM ^
The 2020 recruiting class looks pedestrian at best
September 21st, 2019 at 11:27 PM ^
Being honest, if you had a kid with nfl aspirations would you want them to come here? I wouldn’t.
Our athletes are poorly coached all over the field.
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:33 AM ^
Did we have two guys drafted in the top 15 last year? I can't remember
September 22nd, 2019 at 12:36 AM ^
Yeah. One of them never did shit here and would have gone that high from anywhere. The other was coached by OSUs DC.
Any other questions?
