My wife is a psychologist and to evaluate cognitive and language ability, she administers something called the Woodcock Johnson test. Real name.

I had a colleague named Dick Cummings. He went by Dick, not Richard.

Went to school with a guy named Andrew Johncock. We'd go to away track events as discus throwers (bad ones) and sign him up as John Cock, instead of Andrew Johncock.
So then the referee would announce the lineup "Smith up! Jones on deck! Cock in the hole!"
Funny every time...

I went to high school with a real, live Mike Hunt.

I used to work for a Dick Wick. Good PM, but a co-worker just couldn't bring herself to call him 'Dick'. So she only ever called him Richard. She was a prude, though, nice woman - but a prude.

After the jokes, I was wondering why this poster was in the AD at all (because nothing is just there to be there, IMO). Turns out one of the film's producers, Ralph Block, was a Michigan alum. That's your Michigan alum football movie knowledge for today.

These kids are oozing with confidence. It seems like they all just want to say how good they are, but they can't. Just look at their facial expressions and they are smiling throughout their interviews. I am looking foward for payback in south bend!
August 28th, 2018 at 9:12 AM ^
I've noticed the same thing in the interviews, but let's hope it translates into W's on Saturdays. It is nice to see the quiet confidence though. The problem is they can think they're amazing, but it's all relative (to other teams) and it's impossible to know how good you are during fall camp.
On another note, I've been very impressed with Bredeson's interviews, he definitely "gets it" and seems like a phenomenal leader. Hope that rubs off on some of the younger guys on the OL!

Those Bredeson kids are good athletes! I think his brother plays baseball for Michigan. So thankful they didn't go to Wisconsin.

We can thank Wisconsin for not fielding a varsity baseball team.

Improved performance against the D-line compared with a year ago--noted by D-linemen this year--sounds promising for the O-line. It's certainly better than an absence of such improvement. Hoping that it carries over to games, of course.

This type of confidence feels like the confidence the team had in 1997 (when we won the opener against #8 Colorado 27 to 3). They feel great and know they are going to dominate but they are not over the top about it publicly. They quietly know they are in for an outstanding season and have the talent and put in the work. Some commenters here may want them to keep things close in the opener but I want them to bury ND. My prediction - a Wolverine win 38 to 3.
August 28th, 2018 at 9:40 AM ^
Honestly, I want to see them come through a close half and then win. Pre-season confidence scares me. I feel a lot better after I see them struggle and then overcome - I used to love the confidence of "they're a second-half team" I had when I was a kid and Bo was the coach, and they often came from behind to win.

After seeing 'em pull out relatively close games against the likes of Cincinnati and Air Force last year, I don't want to see that again. Blowouts. Big-lopsided-margin-of-victory blowouts.
August 28th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^
Blowouts in which the 2s and 3s come in and put even more hurt on our rivals
August 28th, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
A win at Notre Dame, regardless of how close, would be a huge boost. That's the competition for them.
I want them to annihilate as many teams as possible. We got punched in the face plenty last year.

Ben Bredeson puts on a good presser. Impressive young man.

I agree!!
I hope he doesn't leave early for the NFL with a few other Juniors after this year.
