David Sills (2015 QB) offered
It looks like the second (first since Josh Rosen) 2015 QB offer has been extended per TomVH:
Tom VanHaaren @TomVH 29s
2015 USC QB commit David Sills, per his father, has been offered by Michigan. Dad says Hoke in-school right now.

Also, it appears Tim Settle, 5 star DT out of Virginia has also been offered
Steve Lorenz @TremendousUM 4m
#Michigan has offered 2015 five-star defensive tackle Tim Settle

interesting....USC offer who probably won't turn...but hey, now is the time to do it while their coaching is in flux...plus would be a huge pull
December 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Isn't his dad the one that started the school where Canteen/Watson go basically to ensure that his son ended up at USC?
Moreover, didn't Sills commit to USC when he was like 13 or 14?
Seems like a weird offer.

Question already answered.

But it didn't looked like he stepped up into the pocket for a single throw in that video. Great arm and he looks pretty speedy, but isn't that an issue?
December 6th, 2013 at 3:17 PM ^
What's a "pocket"?
-Devin Gardner, for every game between ND and OSU.
December 6th, 2013 at 3:21 PM ^
There are several throws where he steps into the pocket.
I'm not expert either, but it looks like he has good footwork in the pocket.
December 6th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
Gimme a break, take that five star in cali begging to come here already.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:06 PM ^
Completely agree.
I don't think Sills commits and wouldn't be happy if he did.
Perhaps this is a political offer?
December 6th, 2013 at 3:22 PM ^
Things might have changed after Kiffin got fired.

Kevin Dillman, I believe.
December 6th, 2013 at 3:40 PM ^
That said, apparently he's struggled a bit this year.
As far as Sills, I've said this about him:
If Borges wants prospects that are fundamentally sound coming in so that he can work on the other aspects of coaching a QB more than the repetitive nature of trying to break raw mechanics so that they don't revert to that in pressure situations (and trying to teach the other stuff as well), he won't find someone much better than Sills, who has great fundamentals and mechanics.
There may be other reasons behind this offer, and I'm not sure it's the path I would take (I think he has more limited upside as far as things you can't teach: arm strength, height, etc), but there is validity and reason with it.
December 6th, 2013 at 3:43 PM ^
He is listed at 6-3. Is that too short?
December 6th, 2013 at 3:50 PM ^
You'd like an extra inch or 2, but that's not a huge difference, so no, it's not in my opinion. Now, is that his real height? Hard to say. I was really just listing some other possible variables there.
I haven't really followed recruiting since the season started, so I'm a bit rusty with specifics in the area.

Drew Brees and Russel Wilson disagree.
December 6th, 2013 at 6:02 PM ^
And also not necessarily optimal, despite being very good. But it's hard to say that you typically don't desire taller QBs, and it's hard to say what caliber of QBs they would be if they were taller.
You can certainly get by with a shorter stature, but it does make it more difficult and consideration are made with both QBs, particularly Wilson, because of his lack of height.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:22 PM ^
That guy has a very limited passing ability, but he might grown into a decent TE.
December 6th, 2013 at 3:29 PM ^
If this was a bigger class, I'd take Dillman as an athlete, give him a chance to win a Qb spot and if not he can move to TE. And I'd take a second Qb in the class as well. But it's moot since we have few spots.
December 6th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
Settle is one of Hand's friends, correct? The one that seemed intrigued by Michigan but the coaching staff didn't appear to crazy over?
Interesting.
December 6th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
Yeah. He was here for the ND game and was blown away; staff prioritized Froholdt over him though. I really hope we can get him...game changing talent

rumormongering of Saban to Houston Texans, which is why he was in Austin looking for a home

December 6th, 2013 at 1:26 PM ^

And Austin is a million times better than Houston. I would make the sacrifice for my family, assuming I didn't make that commute everyday.

According to his wikipedia page, Sills goes to an all online high school that is not accredited and played on teams that were financed by his dad to showcase talent for college scouts. His current high school is literally a football team with a school. I think somebody is trying too hard. I'd rather have Alex Malzone from Brother Rice.

We have two players on his team committed to THIS class...don't we?
December 6th, 2013 at 1:07 PM ^
It is the first I've heard of ECA. If the school isn't accredited how can these kids be NCAA eligible?
December 6th, 2013 at 1:16 PM ^
It is accredited.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:18 PM ^
Further, the quality of the academic curriculum has been questioned and doubts exist if graduation from the school would allow a student-athlete to meet NCAA eligibility requirements.[4]
This line from the wikipedia article caught my attention but if all these issues are resolved so be it.
December 6th, 2013 at 1:21 PM ^
We have two kids currently committed to come to Michigan in less than a year from this school.
It may seem odd or shady, but it's legal.

It is like my dream of becoming super wealthy (not rich but wealthy) and starting my own private school where the students are only athletes and part of your tuition pays for a luxury SUV, an ipad, beats headphones in school colors, the finest clothing (our school uniform of course), and stero-equipment. If all these came with the cost of tuition and the school only enrolled "student-athletes" on "full scholarship" could you have a semi-pro team playing at the NCAA level?
December 6th, 2013 at 2:06 PM ^
is that many (most) football recruits come from schools that are not the best at any rate, so I'm not sure this is actually all that different.
December 6th, 2013 at 2:47 PM ^
They initially had an issue with the online provider they used, which is part of why they didn't play any games last season (maybe got in 2 actually). But they sorted it out and are now using a nationall accredited program that has no NCAA issues whatsoever.
If you're going to quote something and make multiple posts about how questionable the school is, at least check that you're not quoting an article from August of 2012.
And as it's been said, Canteen and Watson met all requirements and have already signed to enroll early so there are no isses.
The nature of the school may be questionable, but the program they use is pretty legit now; and it's no different than the likes of Oak Hill Academy for basektball or the IMG Academy for basically every sport.
